Last week was a stressful one for me…and when I get hit with stress/anxiety overload, I do what I gotta do, and then I hide out. In bed, in a book, in a movie. So I worked…and I hid. Hence, no “Week in Review” as there was nothing to review. I have crossed the stressful bridge, however, and can now move on…and am trying to make up for a little lost time. All this by way of explaining that I Went Out on a Monday Night, ha ha. I’m such a wild child!

A girlfriend and I were headed to an art exhibit that another friend had some photos in. Anytime we go to an area we do not frequent often, we hit Google up for what interesting/weird/good things there are to do/see/eat there. This time we found a little place called Costa Nova Waffles so we headed there for a little snack before the art exhibit.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. The shop was teeny tiny, just enough space for a few stools along a side wall and the front window. The decor was beachy and fresh in an aqua and white color scheme. The two girls working there were darling and answered all our questions and let us taste things before selecting. What it IS, is…a cross between a crepe and a waffle filled with yummy goodness. So they pour a crepe-like batter into a large round waffle iron and press it so when they’re done they’re thin and a cross between soft and crispy. They spread on your choice of filling while it’s still warm, then add any mix-ins – like fruit, chocolate chips, marshmallows, twix, etc. – before folding into a pie-piece shape and slide it into a brown bag for easy handling. I went with the traditional Portugese egg custard, which was very nice and just the right amount of sweet. I kept mine pure and didn’t add any mix-ins. Next time I’m going for the Speculous cookie butter. It was such a nice light crispy snack. I definitely recommend trying them if you get a chance.

It was almost springlike, but so windy walking around the town! When will it end???

dressed for spring, even though Mother Nature was not quite on board. This white embroidered peasant blouse by Vintage America Blues was this week’s Gwynnie Bee rental. It was a very light and floaty viscose rayon which was a welcome change from 17 layers of sweaters. It partnered easily with medium wash skinny jeans and a denim jacket (doesn’t everything??). It is available in both straight sizes (here) and plus sizes (here). I’d like to just point out that the “pale pink” flowers you see online are actually more of a muted day-glow peachy-pink. Just sayin’.

Then we headed over to the art exhibit.

And to my delight one of my friend Amy’s photographs won an Honorable Mention award. She’d submitted these really beautiful portraits. I think she uses lighting really well. You can see more of her work here.

She’s actually photographed me for the blog a couple times…here, here and here.

Do you ever feel the need to just hide out from life for awhile? Or do you deal with “weeks from hell” in another way…?

Thanks to my friend Linda for taking these pictures.
