Styling the Colors of Fall: Rust
This will be a new bi-monthly (ha, the “twice a month” one) series where I share styling ideas for the different colors of fall.
Rust, which covers shades of brick, cinnamon, clay, chestnut….is one of my personal favorite colors for fall (well, anytime, really, but especially in fall). It’s warm, and both rich and subdued at the same time, which I like. And I think it’s a VERY (diverse? no…) color and goes with so many other colors.
It just feels COZY, like holding a mug of hot cocoa.
If you’re wondering what colors play well with the warm, spicy rust tones…
There are the classic combinations…
BLACK
WHITE/CREAM
BLUE
And I think these pairings might feel a little more modern…
GREEN
PINK
I’m really excited to add some soft blush pink to my rust outfits.
Do other people get excited about color combinations??
LILAC/PURPLE
MUSTARD
So many good combos! I’m most looking forward to trying pinks and purples with my rust items. You??

I cannot think out of the box so I am thrilled to see these color suggestions to pair with PUMPKIN or rust. Such a fabulous fall color. And I love it with pink and lilac. But could never have thought of that myself. You look so cute in all of your rust pieces. Love the first one with the coat. And pairing the rust with chambray…genius. You are an inspiration.

Thanks, Leslie! I do probably spend way too much time thinking about color, ha ha. THERE ARE DISHES TO WASH! But seriously, I sort of…analyze? color combinations a LOT. Mine, other people people’s in home decor, in nature, etc. What do I like…and why. What DON’T I like…and why. What would I do to turn a combo I DON’T like into one I DO?
There’s another blog post.

It really makes me wonder what wouldn’t look good with it when you show all of these.

Ha, so funny you should say that. I feel like every color I…deal with? Ha. Weird choice of words, but…anyway, once I start really thinking about them, I have a hard time finding ANY color they wouldn’t look good with. It’s all about the undertones/temperature/saturation to me. THOSE things specifically might now work well, but I could never say X doesn’t go with X…or even X DOES go with X…cuz it depends on the U/T/S to me.
There’s a blog post. If I haven’t already done it.

You’ve inspired me to investigate how I’ve worn rust and to experiment some of these combinations. Your outfit with the rust blouse with white/cream cardigan and pants looks so fresh and lovely.

Yay! I read somewhere recently that brown is the most – oh gosh, BETTYE, MAKE THE WORDS BE A SENTENCE! OTTOHKAY?!? BUT HOW!? Ha – the fastest growing in popularity among women? Sorry, I’m now struggling with language in TWO languages, ha. Anyway, I found that interesting. Its current popularity is the highest popularity it has had since the 70s.
It feels modern and comforting to me at the same time.

Rust – one of my favorite colors too. Probably because it just reminds me of fall and all the beautiful colors of leaves.

It’s just such warm, welcoming color
