Where Bloggers Live: MY Favorite Bloggers
Welcome to the monthly edition of Where Bloggers Live. It’s kind of like HGTV’s “Celebrities at Home,” but…Bloggers! Who doesn’t like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes and lives? Every month a group of six bloggers share their work-spaces, homes, towns, and more!
This month we’re sharing our favorite bloggers, YouTubers, and Instagram and TikTokkers.
Three years ago I would have been hard-pressed to narrow my favorites down to a shareable amount. I LIVED for blogs. Back in the day I was a total magazine addict…but the internet, and then blogs, specifically, took over for me.
But now…reading anything long-form is just too…long for me! Partly due to time (or the lack thereof), and partly due to my sad, little attention span, which seems to be shrinking by the day. IG and TikTok grab my attention more because I can see 30-50 posts in a matter of minutes….and my “what’s happening out there in internet-land” curiosity is slaked. Until I need my next fix, ha ha.
So what are my favorites that I actually take the time these days to still seek out?
Style/Slice of Life
I’ve been following longtime favorite Lizzy Hadfield of Shot from The Street for seven years – whoa. That’s a long time in blog-time! I have watched her go through many changes in her life, and excitingly, she now has a second home right here in NY, and she splits her time between her house in London and an apartment in Manhattan. I just know that one day we will bump into one another on the street and be instant BFFs. I’ve ALWAYS thought that, but now it’s an actual possibility. Her style has always inspired me, and she still shares that on her Instagram account. Her blog is more travel, out and about, with some home dec. I will say, I miss her long-form blog posts, I always enjoyed reading her thoughts on things…but this collage photo style format on her blog also really inspires me. Maybe when I have something to take pictures of, ha ha, I might do something similar. She also still has her YouTube channel, but I rarely have the time for that.
Life Abroad/Slice of Life
A newer but “standing the test of time” fave blog/YouTube/Instagrammer is Micaela Meanders. She first captured my attention while I was watching 12,894,297 YouTube “Seoul apartment hunting/tours,” and I fell in love with her gentle voice and attitudes about life. I follow her mostly on IG where she posts tons of stories from her outings in Seoul, coffee shops, street scenes, her serene apartment and sweet kitty. I plan to also bump into HER on the street someday in Seoul and we will also become BFFS.
All my BFFs are in my imagination 🙂
But to me that’s the sign of a really great blogger/content creator…you feel that you know them…and you LIKE THEM…not just their…genre.
Those are my current faves, that I really make a point of not missing.
Make sure to check out my friends’ favorites today, too:

I had hoped there would be a favorite with photography in Korea and I am not disappointed!

Ha, I restrained myself. There are so many great Korean and Japanese photography accounts I follow. I have overflowing “places to go in ___” folders on both IG and TikTok where I save things to as reference for when I’m there.
I can’t wait til *I’M* the one taking the pictures!!!

I love the fact that we really can become friends with the people we see online. I have met many, and when you really think about it, that’s quite incredible.

Right?? I’ve certainly made more friends online in the past 10 years than I have in “real life.”
Iris
A couple of very intense – but interesting blogs there. Thanks for sharing them.

Before writing this comment, I took a detour and toured Micaela’s Seoul apartment. What impressive use of space. Efficient. Minimalist. I think a part of me would thrive living like that because I like being very organized, everything in its place. But then emotions and sentimentality step in have me saving everything…pictures my grands have drawn, pennies I find on my walks, lots of clothes. Not sure where one would put those things in a sleek apartment like Micaela’s. Would you like to meet your favorite bloggers in real life or would you be like me, terrified to!?
bettyewp
I’d be terrified but…I thinking (I THINK) I would do it anyway.
As for the minimalist space, remember you’re seeing the home of an ex-pat who only brought two(ish) suitcases with her…and knowing she’d be moving or returning home one day, has probably been careful about not adding too many new belongings. As a matter of fact, she just signed a lease on a new apartment and will be moving shortly (still in Seoul, but). Even when I go, I will have VERY few things with me – clothes, helth&beauty stuff, a few kitchen things, and a few personal items – artwork, books. And I, too, will have to be very mindful of what I add to my home while I’m there, cuz it’s all going to have to move again after a few years.
I’m always shocked when I think back to my parents returning to the US after 2 years in Japan, and my mother bringing like an entire household of furniture, kitchenware, art, home dec, drapes, etc. I will not have the luxury of the US Navy paying to ship things home for me so at the end it’s all going to have to fit back into my two large suitcases.

LOL I’m glad I’m not the only one who turns Instagram people into BFFs. When I read your stories about Seoul, it makes me wish that I’d been more aware of photography/video/writing when I lived in Korea. All I have are the memories and a few trinkets, but nothing that really proves I was there….

Ha ha, some of my best friends are imaginary!
Gosh, the PHOTOGRAPHY when I go! I’ve been so uninspired the past few years…my world has gotten so small (for good reason, but still, it’s quite visually lacking) and I’m looking forward to new places, new sights, new experiences, new experiences! I think that will revive my love of capturing images.
I’m debating a camera change…but I’m not sure what to go with. I’m thinking of finally going mirrorless…thinking they (can be) a smaller footprint to carry around with me. I also def need a winder lens, like a 35mm for street photography, narrrow alley/streets (oh my gosh those alleys).
Anyway, I know what you mean. I regret not being more “into” photography when Katie was little. I have the memories and a few trinkets, but…ha ha.

I admit that I am a little reluctant to check out everyone’s favorites beyond what I’m reading in the WBL posts. I’d likely immediately want to sign up to each, which would mean I would need to spend several hours a day reading, haha. I suspect the people you follow shape your perspective…and, particularly Michaela, would lend me a lot of insight to the amazing adventure you have ahead of you. But, I feel maxed out on time to read more bloggers, and like you, am doing more IG surfing for content…with the exception of y’all and the ones I’m already invested in (but I’m all in for links to your decor and boyfriends 🤣)

Thank you for not reporting me to the authorities re my imaginary boyfriends, ha ha.
