Vacation Diary: Day One
I’m on vacation this week – yay! I don’t have anything too exciting planned; the week is gonna be heavy on erranding (one of my least favorite ings), but if you wanna come along for the ride…
DAY ONE: Saturday
- Slept gloriously straight through the night with no wake-ups (very uncommon these days)
- Scroll scroll scroll
- Thought for a long time about last night’s movie (which I will share later or in a later post). A long time.
- Went on a semi-deep-dive into a song/group that is sort of our unofficial office theme song (330 by U-Kiss, an old school kpop band from 2008)…discovered that one of the members has had small roles in some kdramas I’ve seen, made mental note to go back and find him in them…then got so tickled at some tiktok clips from them performing the song 15 years ago that I laugh-cried until realized I was hungry
- Didn’t want to shower to go out in public (3-day hair) so decided on Wendy’s DRIVE-THRU breakfast, some concoction of fried chicken on a croissant with maple butter and bacon, to which I planned to add honey and sriracha
- Piddled around on the computer so long that Wendy’s stopped serving breakfast. Tried to convince myself to JUST EAT WHAT’S IN THE HOUSE but…come on…it’s VACATION…then spent another 30 minutes procrastinating about JUST GETTING IN THE DAMN SHOWER.
- Got semi-real-world presentable and went to the deli for the usual “2 eggs over easy bacon cheese on a roll” and large light and sweet coffee. Watched episode 27/32 of Love Recall (OH NO IT’S ALMOST OVER WHAT WILL I DO WHEN I’M ALL DONE?!?) while I ate…and cried empathetic tears of despair with the broken-hearted contestant when his past love did NOT come to the studio and all the world got to see him being rejected on national television. God, I love this show.
- By 1pm it was finally time to do something productive. I already have my To Do list for the week…but I wanted to add a couple “regular practices” – things to do Every Day. I’m off for the next 10 days, I’m hoping I can create SOME kind of habit out of at least one of these. I came up with a short list of:
- 1 lesson in TTMIK (Talk To Me in Korean, book 2, that’s my current class and I’m WAY behind because of dinner dance)
- Photograph 10 ebay items – 10 days/10 items, I should have A HUNDRED ITEMS photoraphed by the time I go back to work. I don’t even know if I have 100 things left to sell.
- Watch a movie – my To Watch list is RIDICULOUS and since usually I’m watching dramas – there’s the evening drama with my friend in Arizona, my lunchtime drama, my “in bed before I go to sleep” drama, I don’t usually have time for a 2-2+ hour movie. So this week is MOVIE WEEK.
- Do a sciatica stretch – I rehurt myself, I think while favoring the foot/leg I hurt at dinner dance, and it’s on the upward trajectory…which is not the preferred trajectory. And maybe I can help it myself a bit before I have to start throwing money at the chiropractor again
- Walk SOMEWHERE ANYWHERE FOR ANY DISTANCE/LENGTH OF TIME, just get OUT OF THE HOUSE ON FOOT – this one’s sort of self-explanatory
That seems like a lot, but it’s maybe 5 hours worth of stuff every day. If I just pretend I’m at work…and add 3 hours/day of “all the other stuff on my vacation to do list”, that’s 8 hours and I’ll be done and can relax in the evening.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
- After eating/watching Love Recall, I made a mixtape…well, the 2023 version of the mixtape, a Spotify playlist, for my work office-mate so he wouldn’t miss me and my music too much while I’m out of the office all week 🙂 Then I photographed the day’s 10 ebay items (well, actually 9, cuz that’s all that was left in that category and I had nothing else ready to go).
- The rest of the afternoon was spent going through some of my To Do list items. At one point awhile ago the BIG PICTURE To Do list was getting smaller…and that felt amazing…but lately it seems like everything I do or ask a question about, results in three MORE things to do or find out. So now the list seems overwhelming again and I have been feeling pretty buried under LOTS OF WEIGHT, both at work and in my personal life.
- I had the second half of burnt frozen pizza (cuz my oven holds a new surprise for me every day) for dinner, then watched two episodes of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God with Arizona Friend. This is a CLASSIC k-drama from 2016, I’m watching for the second time and picking up on things I missed the first time, which is always a win.
- I got in bed at 11:00 and spent so long trying to pick my new “in bed before going to sleep” show that I got tired and just went to sleep.
And that was my first day of vacation. OH. And before you go DIDN’T SHE JUST MAKE A LIST OF THINGS TO DO EVERYDAY…AND ONLY DID ONE OF THEM? Ha, CAVEAT – today was the First Day of Vacation. All bets are off on the First Day of Vacation. First Day of Vacation is SACRED. You do only what you want to do and nothing that you don’t want to do. Amen.

Oop, I just came across this in Trash – come on, WordPress, do better!
I fell while setting up for dinner dance 2 weeks ago. My knees met the granite floor in a most unfortunate way 🙁 My foot was actually the most injured party and I’ve been limping around ever since.
Life, amiright??

I scrolled back a few posts to read about the dinner/dance and didn’t see a post about it. Whatever you did to your leg must have hurt!!!

Yeah, Dinner Dance will be included in the April/May Month in Review in a couple weeks. There was just not enough of anything in April to warrant it’s own post so I decided to combine two boring posts to make one really LONG boring post, ha ha.
But yes, I fell during set-up in the morning, landed hard on my knees on the granite floor, and also managed to crash down on top of my left foot that was turned topside down. So my foot has been the most painful, had x-rays, yadda yadda yadda. It was…not a good day.

Ugh, the dinner dance injury…well, you certainly did go out on a bang there! Checking one thing from your list on Day One of Vacation is a major win…MAJOR. Congrats!
