Fall Florals & Fabulous Friday Link-Up
So, I’m doing something new and different his week, and co-hosting the Fabulous Friday link-up with the lovely Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots. I hope you’ll join our link-up party (I’m so excited to see who comes!) and maybe you’ll be selected and shared next week as a favorite blogger! But first, your regularly scheduled post!
I just wrote here about wearing bold colors in the fall, but you can also take a more subtle approach. Florals as an accent work fabulously for fall, and so many of the colors coordinate so nicely with the warm, spicy colors generally associated with the season.
Take this Bobeau top, for example. It’s really a summery top – sleeveless in a crepey fabric. But the colors in the flowers are so rich – the deep corals and olives, gentler apricots and celadon greens – they go beautifully with the rusts and olives of fall. But they’re also strong enough to stand on their own, as they are in my outfit today. And the top itself is ideal for transitional dressing as it layers nicely under a lightweight cardigan with no sleeve bulk.
I love letting the floral print be the strong component of the outfit, and the supporting pieces more subdued. Old Navy calls this cardigan color “Palomino,” but if *I* were naming it, I’d call it “Fair.” It’s not white, it’s not beige…it’s fair. Like a fair skinned person. It’s a very gentle color that complements a lot of other colors – I really like it with my white jeans. I like mixing tones of white like that.
I’m wearing my favorite earrings that I bought at a handmade fair eight years ago in Brooklyn (and I haven’t lost them?! That’s amazing!). There’s not actually any turquoise in the top but I feel like turquoise complements almost everything!
And a chakra bracelet made by adult clients with autism in one of our programs at work.
This particular top is several years old now but Bobeau has a few very nice floral tops available currently in both plus and straight sizes:
- Bobeau top, no longer available, see above for comparable items.
- Old Navy open front sweater in Palomino. This exact style is no longer available. but there’s a hip-length one in this color in straight sizes here and several comparable items in plus sizes here and here.
- White Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans in white, size 22w short here in plus and here in straight size.

Jennie and I have each chosen a favorite look from last week’s Fabulous Friday linkup. You can find hers by heading to A Pocketful of Polka Dots and mine is….(drum roll please!) (ooh, it’s so hard to choose just one, there are so many good ones!) (okay, stop talking to yourself, Bettye, and commit!)…is…Joi Smith from In My Joi…in this sensational golden velvet dress. I mean, Come On! She’s spectacular, all velvety and shimmery and attitudey, bouncing her curls and strutting her stuff!
And now it’s time to share your own amazing looks! I can’t wait to see them!
Nancy
Lovely look Bettye! Those schades look good on you. Have a great weekend!
Fashion Schlub
Thanks, Nancy! It’s a 3-day weekend for the Columbus Day holiday, so WOOHOO!!!
Susan Marinelli
Well, I wanted to link up, but I don’t have a blog. I was gonna link a photo of me in my short olive kimono, because olive! Anyway, will just live vicariously through your sweet outfit, Bettye. As well as Joi, whose outfit is adorable, because yellow! Turquoise is my favorite jewelry (because I can’t afford emeralds), and I totally agree that it goes with everything. At least in my wardrobe it does. Loving the earrings, Bettye. Nancy is absolutely right that life IS too short for boring hair. Now to Pinterest to find a new hairstyle!

Funny you should mention that, I was just thinking about how I can have people upload a photo to the blog even if they don’t have a blog to link to – to have a little “fashion party” of sorts! I suppose people could upload their photo wherever – image hosting site, facebook, etc. and then just use the image link to share…hmm, no, but people could send ME the images and I could upload them. It’s not as immediate, but I’m thinking of doing something seasonally – like “show your favorite outfit of the season” for everyone, not just bloggers. Does that sound do-able? Would people enjoy that? *I* would enjoy it!
Susan Marinelli
I would enjoy it too! And with your gift for bon mots, you would come up with a really cool name I am sure. Blogless Fog Link Up? Seasonal Triumphs? Fatshion Passion? (didn’t claim I had the gift too)
Fashion Schlub
I kinda like Blogless Fog, ha ha, what the heck is THAT?
Marianne
I would like that. It would be fun to see your commenters who do not have a blog. I would participate.
Fashion Schlub
I’m so glad to see people would like that and participate! Okay, I’ll figure out how and when to do that! Maybe like a Readers’ Favorite Outfits of the Month…at the end of each month – and people will send me either a link to someplace they have the photo online, or the image itself. I’ll put it on my blogging calendar to send a notice and reminder out on the 15th of the month so that’ll give people two weeks to respond. Ooh, yay, I’m excited to see everyone!

Just discovered your blog and love it so much! You are doing a great job of swapping frumpy for fabulous. And I really like your photography. We seem to have a similar outlook on fashion….don’t spend a lot, and don’t settle for anything frumpy. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for stopping by, Susan! Yep, trying really hard to “beat the frump”!
Amy Johnson
Thank you for co-hosting! What a lovely look! I Love the color palette and that top is so cute…just my style.
Fashion Schlub
Thanks, Amy! Bobeau always has a nice selection of floral tops and dresses.

Bettye, love, love, love the outfit. It’s perfect! Have a great weekend! We are headed to northern Wisconsin for some hopefully beautiful fall leaf colors. 🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
Fashion Schlub
Wisconsin sounds nice – I just had a deja vu – have I said that to you before?? One of the blogs I was just on mentioned a leaf peeper app to track when prime foliage is where, I forgot to ask the name of it and now I don’t remember who it was! I’ll have to look for that, would be a very useful thing. You have a great weekend!
Debbie from Illinois
Yup! I’ve mentioned that I spend a lot of time in Wisconsin. The particular area I love to visit is Door County. We keep a RV at a campground in Sister Bay, it is wonderful. Sadly we only have one week left before we have to winterize our place. Did you know as we age the less likely we will experience deja vu. How sad is that?
Jodie
I love when I saw you co-hosting the link up Bettye!!
And I love that you added in turquoise earrings to the outfit. To me that’s such a modern look so everything isn’t too matchy matchy!!
XOXO

Co-hosting was fun. Have been going through and commenting on linker-uppers all afternoon, so many new blogs I’ve never seen!
Julia @ When The Girls Rule
Those three blouses you found for us are A-Dor-A-Ble! But your tassles make your top! Thanks for hosting a link-up. You are such a professional collegial blogger! And I added my link!

Thanks, Carrie! Yeah, there’s just something about those tassels!
Jennie
Your top is simply gorgeous, Bettye! You are so right about the floral colors bring perfect for fall and I really like how they just pop off the background. I like the soft neutral colors of your layers, too. Thank you so much for co-hosting! Hopefully we can do it again in the future. Also, Inlinkz does allow followers to link directly from Facebook and Instagram for those who do not have a blog. 🙂
Fashion Schlub
That’s good to know (re InLinkz)! Maybe I’ll try that next time – this time I’ll make it more open so *anyone* who wants to share a photo, can – whether they post selfies on social or not. Was fun co-hosting! Am about a third of the way through commenting!
