So, I’m doing something new and different his week, and co-hosting the Fabulous Friday link-up with the lovely Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots. I hope you’ll join our link-up party (I’m so excited to see who comes!) and maybe you’ll be selected and shared next week as a favorite blogger! But first, your regularly scheduled post!

I just wrote here about wearing bold colors in the fall, but you can also take a more subtle approach. Florals as an accent work fabulously for fall, and so many of the colors coordinate so nicely with the warm, spicy colors generally associated with the season.

Take this Bobeau top, for example. It’s really a summery top – sleeveless in a crepey fabric. But the colors in the flowers are so rich – the deep corals and olives, gentler apricots and celadon greens – they go beautifully with the rusts and olives of fall. But they’re also strong enough to stand on their own, as they are in my outfit today. And the top itself is ideal for transitional dressing as it layers nicely under a lightweight cardigan with no sleeve bulk.

I love letting the floral print be the strong component of the outfit, and the supporting pieces more subdued. Old Navy calls this cardigan color “Palomino,” but if *I* were naming it, I’d call it “Fair.” It’s not white, it’s not beige…it’s fair. Like a fair skinned person. It’s a very gentle color that complements a lot of other colors – I really like it with my white jeans. I like mixing tones of white like that.

I’m wearing my favorite earrings that I bought at a handmade fair eight years ago in Brooklyn (and I haven’t lost them?! That’s amazing!). There’s not actually any turquoise in the top but I feel like turquoise complements almost everything!

And a chakra bracelet made by adult clients with autism in one of our programs at work.

This particular top is several years old now but Bobeau has a few very nice floral tops available currently in both plus and straight sizes:

What I’m Wearing

  • Bobeau top, no longer available, see above for comparable items.
  • Old Navy open front sweater in Palomino. This exact style is no longer available. but there’s a hip-length one in this color in straight sizes here and several comparable items in plus sizes here and here.
  • White Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans in white, size 22w short here in plus and here in straight size.
