Holiday Casual
The holidays are not just about parties and glittery sequined fancy things, they’re also about good times with family and friends – picking out a tree, driving around to look at holiday lights, sharing a meal. For those times you want something seasonal but also cozy and comfy.
I remember so many Christmases when Katie was young and I would drag my little family from tree lot to tree lot, convinced the NEXT place had Our Perfect Christmas Tree. I don’t know if trees have gotten better…or if I’ve just lowered my standards but I seem to get most of my trees at the first stop now.
This deep olive green cardigan is perfect for tree shopping, light admiring, caroling or ice skating. It’s a thick but pliable knit and is loose and swingy enough that you could comfortably put a thin layer underneath if you needed. The shawl collar comes up high around your neck for warmth, but is not a turtleneck for those of you are not a fan (I’ve learned there is quite a divisiveness between turtleneck lovers…and all you other people – wink).
Finish the outfit off with skinny jeans tucked into boots (though most normal people would wear socks!) and a coat and scarf and you’re good to go. I, unfortunately, was so excited to see my photo spot vacant that I forgot to get any shots with my coat and scarf!
It’s that time of year where I have to rely more on tripod selfies taken during lunchtime at work. I work in a densely populated suburb that is mostly (all?) residential and strip malls. I don’t know of a park (well, there’s a baseball diamond), there’s no water, there’s virtually no open, public space. This little weedy cul-de-sac is the best place I’ve found…but other people have found it, too, and sometimes when I get there the UPS guy has already claimed it as his own. And while I have no problem shooting around people when I’m actually being photographed by another person, it feels very different when it’s just me and a tripod. So my apologies if my photo quality takes a bit of a nose dive during these short days of winter.
And yes, I am dancing by myself in a deserted cul-de-sac. As one does.

It is a great photo location though. Is that a chain-link fence? Just makes it for me….sun shining through. I love the outfit, even though that’s not a proper turtleneck (wink) – the color is great. Also, “as one does” cracked me up! Thanks for sharing your humor Bettye. 😊

Have missed you here, Sarah!
It IS a chain-link fence. There’s probably a sump back there or something and they need to keep folks out. And I was lucky with my late lunchtime to just catch a little bit of low sun peeking through the tree branches.
I did like the sweater, but it was a Gwynnie Bee rental and I decided not to keep it, so it went back in yesterday’s mail. I’ll have something else in a couple days, whee!
Hope you have a fun weekend planned!

LOVE the sweater. It looks comfty AND warm – two of my requisites these days. Goes well with the boots and jeans. The photos are great – wouldn’t have known you were doing it yourself.
Thanks to you I’m trying to get a bit out of my comfort zone – I wore skinny jeans yesterday, and actually have a pair of leggings now 🙂

Feels good to try something new and have it feel good, yes? And I’ve SEEN you in skinny jeans and you looked great – you’ve really got the legs for them!

Yeah, there are so many outfits in the dead-cold of winter that I just keep passing over in my closet because they’ll leave my neck exposed.
If I could, I’d wear my Target grey sharkbite hem turtleneck knit and blue Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans and black Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers Every. Damn. Day. Cozy. Check. Warm. Check. Comfortable. Check. I’M SOLD. What else does anyone need? It would make the blog a little boring, but…
Corina
the sweater looks comfortable and warm, you look so cute in these pictures.

The photo quality is wonderful, as usual, Bettye. Nice outfit, although I tend to pass over the shawl collars, since they interfere with wearing cardigans over them. I also cracked up at “as one does”. Now let’s talk about the hair, shall we? Good Lord, Bettye! The more it grows into the “in-between” stage, the better it looks! However do you do that? As far as turtlenecks go, they display every, single, one of my double chins, but I wear them anyway.
bettyewp
Yeah, no cardigans over a shawl collar. But sometimes I like to wear a non-cardigan outfit. It’s rare, but I do do it. And turtlenecks are my love, double chins and all. They just get me. The hair? I dunno. It’s not getting much help from me. I do think I need a trim because the bangs are getting long enough that they’re falling a little flat. And the back along my neck makes me crazy, makes me look like a blockhead, ha ha. I’m trying to NOT cut it and get past the blockhead stage but….ARGH. AARRGGHH!!!
