Week in Review: Week 153
So, today is my one-week moving anniversary. I’ve barely unpacked – only the essentials, so my week has been spent in a “where is my ___” limbo. I’ve been eating Popeye’s fried chicken (I bought The Big Bucket the last week at the old place so I didn’t have to cook) and cheese and crackers (once the chicken ran out). I guess I need to grocery shop!
I feel weird asking the new landpeople if I can use the grocery delivery service I used at the old place. It’s a different sort of set-up here. The house doesn’t face the street, so visitors need to drive up the driveway hill, around a bend and past the main house to get to me. So it seems much more like an invasion of privacy here than it did there.
I just had a deja vu about that paragraph I just wrote, ha ha!
Anyway, I suppose I should just bite the bullet and go to the grocery store myself like a normal person. It was nice while it lasted.
On Monday at work, someone had visited Japanese Village in Industry City (remember I went there to see the Escher exhibit?) over the weekend and brought us these Hello Kitty mallomar-esque cookies. The cookies were horrible but the packaging was delightful.
I went to the opthalmologist to get my light flashes and floaters checked out. Doesn’t this look so old school “modern”?
Got to sit outside that afternoon in the insane warmth and watch the sun set below the hill across the pond. Nice.
Apologies in advance. There are going to be a lot of these shots.
See?

Walked around the pond one afternoon. Was pretty low-tide-ish.
I was surprised you could see the house from the other side of the pond.
Janey’s new spot.
I keep trying to encourage her into the windows. I know it’s not the same as the cushy sofa right in front of the big window at the old place but…
Last night I went to a photo show opening. I saw the name on this photo card and said to my girlfriend, “Hey, I went to high school with him!” I turned around and he was standing right there, ha ha! Mini high school reunion! Small world, huh?
I mostly stayed in this weekend, working on blogs and unpacking boxes. I’m finding more of my favorite things and learning how the light is throughout the day.
That’s it for the week. It was a high-anxiety week at work, so fingers crossed that that is behind me and this week can just be normal. One more week til vacation!

The location of your new apartment is simply stunning! I know you don’t feel lucky, but I view you as very lucky to live in such a charming spot. Of course Janey is a lunatic, she’s been moved. That’s the worst you can do to a kitty, and you will pay. That is how they roll.
Enjoy!

I know, I’m being very ungrateful. I’m fortunate that I have a home at all. I just needed a little while to moan about being displaced against my will again. I think I’ve got that out of my system and I’m able to appreciate some things about the new place.

Japanese ice cream, candy & cookies are awful! Where you live is breathtakingly beautiful. Janey will adapt. When I moved, my cat puked & pouted for a few days and then settled in to his new favorite spots.

Fortunately, there has been no puking! There is carpet here and I know how easily damaged that is, and I can just imagine my security deposit shrinking, shrinking…

Sorry you had a stressful week at work, hopefully this week will be better. Loving the picture updates.
Perhaps you could get a tallish cat tree that would give Janey a comfty place to sit/lay in the window. I looked at them for my cats.
I’m sure you’ll feel more at home once you get some of “your” things out and around.

Wow…I loved seeing your house from that perspective….what a gorgeous area. And I bet you could have your groceries delivered. It’s not like the other people don’t have cars coming and going too.
As for unpacking….it’s never ending, I think. Heck, we still have some boxes at my mom’s that we go through occasionally…and we moved 3 years ago. Oy!
XOXO

What a lovely area you have moved to, and the houses all look like German/Swiss cottages.I can’t wait to see the inside when you have got all your stuff in place.

It *is* Very Charming along the water there. I got to do a little exploring over the weekend and found a little nearby beach that will be nice for summer sunsets with a book and a drink. It’s not a BEACHY beach, like where you’d swim, but it’s perfect for a quick trip just for some quiet time.

Erg I hate stressful work weeks! I hope that is your last one ever! Your pond is so pretty. You know you could do that grocery shopping service where you just pull up to the store and they load them into your car. I see the shoppers all the time in our store. I think it’s called shipt so at least you dont have to wander the store yourself. Just an idea

So far this week is better…today was even early dismissal because of the weather (of course then I couldn’t get my car up the steep driveway at home, but that’s a story for another day) so gained a little extra time out of the office, which is always good. JUST THREE DAYS TIL VACATION!

What a beautiful area! I can’t wait to see how it will look in Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Those moving boxes can be around for awhile. I’ve been in my place for 5 years now and it took about 3 years before all the boxes were unpacked. Aww, Janey’s a little trouper. I’m sure she’ll have more favorite spots picked out in the next couple of weeks.
bettyewp
I promised myself I would not live surrounded by moving boxes this time. I’ve been living that way for TEN YEARS. This time, if something doesn’t have a use and/or a home, it’s OUT. So I do have a little stack of boxes here in the office area, but they’re filled with things I want to sell – cuz that’s a priority here, while I have the space. Sell everything I don’t intend to take with me going forward.
Yes, it will be nice to see this location through the different seasons. And it will be especially nice to have the patio in the nice weather, I look forward to that.
Ha ha, Janey is a LUNATIC. When I get home she is All Over Me. She’s on the keyboard, she keeps turning off my monitor by rubbing on it and hitting the power button, she knocks over the speakers, she’s climbing on me. I try toi give her a little Janey time when I first get home, but at some point I’m like Leave Me Alone!!! If I had my OWN place, this would be the time for a new kitten. But it’s just too hard as a renter.

I love your location. Beautiful! I would park myself in front of the windows and watch the scenery. Better than TV. Do you have a store that has a pick up service? I order my groceries online then drive to the store and they bring them out and load my car. Almost as good as a delivery service and I enjoy the convenience. Moving is so emotionally and physically demanding on everyone, cat included. Hoping you two have time on your vacation to relax and regroup.
bettyewp
You know, I didn’t think of that. The grocery delivery service I was using DOES have an “order and pick-up” option I could try. Though I sorta feel like if I can get myself to the store, I should just go in! It was the “don’t have to get dressed on a weekend and go out” factor that I loved, and yes, the time, but I’m a pretty fast shopper. I wish the store I really LIKED offered delivery/ The delivery service was from a less than favorite market and they frequently didn’t carry the things I really wanted…or they SAID they did, I’d order, then they wouldn’t bring them – obviously I’d get the refund, but what I really wanted was The Thing!
Wow, I am REALLY on a whole new level of complaining here. Apologies.
