Double Denim + Life
So, I’m writing this morning from home. On a workday. Because my car battery is dead. I’ve known for some time that it was on its last legs but I was waiting for my tax refund to come in to get a new one. It was very cold overnight and is still well before freezing this morning and the car just said nope, I’m done. Ironically, the tax refund hit my bank account last night. Isn’t that always the way??
I could have put it on the emergency credit card, but I just got that paid off and I really didn’t want to put anything back on it already. In hindsight, that was an unfortunate decision as it is now costing me a personal day from work and those are precious. At least I’m all up and dressed and ready for business so I can be productive here at home while I wait for some sort of rescue. At the very least, when Mr. Landlord gets home this evening he can jump me then I can go straight to Batteries R Us for a new one.
On a lighter note, I got OUT this weekend (seems like it’s been ages!) and met a friend in a neighboring town for a little gallery visit, photo shoot and a cup of hot tea at a new coffee shop.
I’m doing the double denim thing here, which I know many Do Not Like, but I think mixing traditional blue denim with white denim is a good way to tone down the “Canadian Tuxedo” look. And the cozy blue cardigan softens it up even more.
I’m so happy to finally have a denim shirt I can button (thank you, retailers, for finally starting to sell larger sizes!), which you’ve seen before here and here. And of course, you’ve seen the white Gloria Vanderbilt jeans a MILLION times. But it’s been awhile since I’ve shared this cozy blue Michael Kors cardigan.
Before my feet started hating me and putting on tights became, truly, the bane of my existence, one of my favorite winter outfits was this Alice and You dress with navy tights, taupe booties and this blue cardigan. It’s so swingy and loose and easy but still cozy at the same time.
Actually, I’m surprised to see I never did a dedicated post about that outfit. I thought I had, but it turns out I only ever shared this look with this dress (which I love, but not as much as the sweater outfit).
Oh, I miss wearing dresses! Warm (aka bare leg) weather can’t come soon enough! Boy, my mind is going in a zillion directions this morning! Where was I? Oh yeah, double denim!
What do you think about wearing “denim on denim”? Hardly one of life’s great philosophical debates, but….
What I Wore:
- Caslon button front chambray shirt, size 4x. Currently sold out, but comparable here and here in plus size and here in straight size.
- Gloria Vanderbilt Plus Amanda white tapered jeans, size 22w short
- Michael Kors blue cardigan, old. Very similar here
- New Balance light grey Arishi sneaker

Ha, SWSRN commented that there was a lot going on back there when she took the picture but I kinda like it. And yes, my mind going in a zillion directions on the one-way street 🙂

Looks like the perfect outfit. I love denim! My dear hubby shrunk my favorite denim shirt. He usually doesn’t do laundry, but the one time he did he put my shirt in the dryer and now it buttons up too tightly. Ugh!
Good luck with getting the battery replaced. Necessary expenditures are are always so inconvenient. Lol! 😀😀😀

Isn’t that a joke? Q. What time is it when hubby shrinks your favorite shirt in the wash? A. Time to get a new hubby!!! Buh-dump-uump. Yeah, new battery started car with a healthy vroom vroom this morning. Very nice.

I LOVE the two shades of denim together! I think two pieces of denim in the same outfit are cute when they are two different colors like that.

Thanks, Heather!

How funny Bettye because I’ll be wearing double denim on the blog next week. Yet true double denim..LOL. In fact, I don’t think of white denim as denim I guess. Because it’s a different color. I have learned that I tend to think more in color than material or texture. Yet I’m trying to expand how I look at clothes and outfits!!
Ugh about the battery. Weren’t you just getting the car fixed with the tire??
It’s always something….

GMTA on the double denim! Yes, I went from tires to batteries. The car just hit 90,000 miles so…things are probably going to start going bad. Ugh.

I’m totally fine with double denim, even if they’re both blue. I think this is one of those weird old rules that no one remembers why we weren’t supposed to wear them together. We just sold my husband’s car and the day after, while he’s at work, the truck battery died and I was stranded too. We were trying to sell that car for 6 months and never did the truck act up until I had no other option. Cars! So frustrating and mysterious yet I’m so dependent on them. I’m glad that you have a nice landlord who can help you!

Yes, the new landlords have been great. Stupid cars!

i always thought I “shouldn’t” do the Canadian Tuxedo look, but now that i see you, and the link you inbedded, I’m a changed woman! lol Denim is so great, and i guess “fashion rules” are silly, anyway.

Phooey on fashion rules.
