Week in Review: Week 163
Get yourself a cuppa cuz this week feels like two week’s worth of week.
Monday: Went to the urologist about the kidney stone (which has turned into two kidney stones so Let’s Take Care of This Right Away says Dr. Uro.) and he recommends a lithotripsy (shock wave stone breaking up procedure – I’ve had 3) asap. Someone will call me about scheduling, he says. I’m not eager cuz a) it’s a 2-day off work process, b) it’s a hefty co-pay and c) I need a personal human (not Uber) to pick me up afterwards (it’s twilight anesthesia). It’s always hard when I need a personal human for anything, cuz I don’t have one of those.
Also, I already hit my 12-mile goal for Step Up for Autism, so what the heck, I’m doubling down on my goal and aiming now for 24 miles!
Tuesday:
This dress arrived from Anthropologie. I was very excited to try something from their new plus size line. Amazingly, it’s TOO BIG and going back.
Wednesday:
Went to dinner with friends. Food was good, felt fine. Woke up at 2 am with fever and violent trembling and chills and could not stop for like 8 hours. Spent Thursday in bed. By Friday I felt fine. Weird.
Friday:
Finally got the call from the lithotripsy scheduler. Only heard it later on voice mail. “Hi, we can’t help you as your BMI is too high (read: you’re too fat) and we a) no longer work with the hospital and b) we can’t take the risk at our own center, so…you’re on your own. Bu-bye.” I’m paraphrasing slightly, but…not too much. So…uhm…
As of 4:01pm I was officially ON VACATION!!!
Went shopping. Looked at shoes. I thought these were fun…and they reminded me of Sharon from Best Before End Date.
Saturday:
Got a bang trim in the pouring rain. I never knew the salon where I go offers complimentary bang trims to their regular clients! Sweet!
Spent the afternoon napping and reading. I’m trying to push myself to the end of this book so I can move onto something better. Will explain in my review.
Easter Sunday:
Katie’s first Easter.
Went to the ex’es for Easter dinner. One niece made THE most delicious lemon cake (which I wish I had just one more sliver of), another cuddled with one of the dogs…
Detour on the way home to see the water.
Watery light.
I have given my vacation to-do list some thought and cannot go entirely without a list, but I did try to keep it to only three items in each of the three categories: blogging, apartment and fun. That’s 9 items and I’m off for 9 days…so we’ll see how I do.
Hope you all had a nice weekend or holiday…it’s finally pretty out, with flowers blooming and trees budding, etc, so I hope to get out and see it all this week!
xoxo Bettye

Oh my on the kidney stone issue. I hope you’re going back to the Urologist and complain.
Vacation sounds great – I think you just need to add one thing to your lists – REST.
Grace & Peace,Iris

Complain? Me?? Ha ha ha. I’d rather face unmedicated kidney stone pain than confrontation. With anyone, let alone a DOCTOR.
And I will definitely rest!

So what are you going to do about the kidney stones??? I’d be having a little hissy fit right now!!
As for those sneakers…I HOPE you bought them!! They are fabulous. That snakeskin dress is fabulous too….I hope you ordered the smaller size!!
And I was going to say the same thing as Iris (don’t forget to rest on vacation)…do we sound like your mother or what? LOL

I’ll probably do nothing about the kidney stones for the time being, quite honestly. The urologist is *always* in a big hurry to do a lithotripsy. If I’ve been in a lot of pain, I do it. If I haven’t, I ignore him. Sometimes I NEVER have pain. I only have pain if one gets stuck. Sometimes they just float happily inside me, never bothering me. Many people carry stones around and never know. It’s always in the back of my mind and anytime I feel any little twinge I’m like OOH KIDNEY STONE OH NO, but sometimes a twinge is just a twinge.
I did not get the sneakers. I didn’t even try them on and it would have been spending money NOW for something I wouldn’t be wearing til the fall, when I actually do need some things NOW. They were on sale, but still too high for off-season buying. For me. bet they WERE really cute and if I see them again in August…
I still have the snakeskin dress in my car…I’ll try to get to an Anthro store this week that carries plus sizes and maybe try the smaller size on. They have some beautiful plus size things right now in their first-ever batch of plus, there’s a lot of things I’d like to try on!
Does sleeping til noon today count as rest? Ha. Then, CHECK 🙂 Now it’s almost 2pm and I need to get out and do some things…

Oh okay, I and what happens next with the kidney stones? Weird that they let you hang there. I hope you enjoy your vacation. But I feel a bit sad, why don’t you have someone in your life who can company you to the hospital? Havn’t you got friends who can help?
bettyewp
Well, what happens next with the kidney stones PROBABLY is I wait around to see if they bother me. If they bother me enough, then we see if I do something about them. Here’s my guideline for seeking medical treatment: when I’m a) incapacitated (as in a broken bone or slipped disc and I literally cannot get around) or b) in so much pain that I am incapacitated (as in stuck kidney stone or bleeding til I’m anemic). In other words, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
And of course I have friends. But these procedures are always during daytime hours on a weekday and people work. It’s one thing to ask a partner to take personal time to drive you somewhere, it’s another to ask a friend. Friends have offered but I feel bad using up their time.

As usual with you, some great photos! Such a talent!
Isn’t it great that Anthropologie now has plus sizes? But I had a moment of being glad your dress didn’t fit because I HATE snake print. I am freely admitting that it’s nuts that I feel so strongly about it that I’m making a comment on a blog!! Ridiculous, I know. I mean, it’s your business and you should wear what you like! It’s just so weird to me to drape the likeness of something so hideous (to me) on a beautiful woman.
Hope the kidney stones don’t give you trouble. Sheesh, it’s always something!

Ha ha, I’m glad you shared your opinion, Marceline! It’s taken me a long time to come around to snake print – and it’s all a bit different. This was a little more IN YOUR FACE when I saw it in person…but some I see is very soft, with pink undertones, and I quite like them. In fact, I think I have a snakeskin print cardigan whooshing it’s way to me from H&M right now, so avert your eyes when you get to that post! 🙂
Kidney stones are being quite well-behaved so far 🙂

Hope you get the dress in a smaller size it looks really nice.
bettyewp
Thanks, Pauline. I’m going to try and try a smaller size in-store. I do really like the “smocky” cut, it’s very similar to my favorite Junarose dress.
Carol
That is a beautiful dress! Hope the smaller size works out. I love your photos & think that you have a beautiful outlook on life. I take your fashion advice & you inspired me to wear white pants in fall and winter weather. Believe it or not, I never even thought of that until some of your postings. I live in Minnesota so I have four distinct seasonal outfits that rarely cross over so thank you for the inspiration! Enjoy your vacation 🙂

Yay! Another year-round white jeans convert! I almost love them MORE in the winter, with greys and taupe and the spicy cinnamon colors! Thanks for sharing, Carol!
