Best of British ~ Match Made in Seven: April
Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet virtually once a month. One of us chooses a theme each month, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie. And then we all style an outfit based on that theme.
This month’s theme was chosen by Anna of Mutton Style and is “Best of British.” See my post about the theme below…and be sure to take a look at my fellow bloggers to see how they have interpreted the theme (probably way better than me!) this month.

When I think “Best of British,” I think of Mick Jagger. The inimitable rock star, performer, personality. Now, No One has Mick’s style or presence…and when I thought more on this month’s theme, I envisioned a Union Jack in one form or another…and I could see in my mind’s eye a picture of Mick Jagger wrapped in a Union Jack flag and what could be more cool or more British (besides, perhaps, a spot of tea) than His Highness wrapped in the British flag.
Now, clearly, I’m no Mick Jagger. But I once had a boyfriend who almost was. He loved him beyond the average fan love. He knew every lyric to every song, every move, every facial expression. I was dragged endlessly to every midnight showing of Rolling Stone (AND Led Zeppelin) concert films. Suffice it to say our relationship was heavily inundated with Mick Jagger.
When we were in our teens we wrote lists of the top ten things we wanted to “be” when we grew up. Mine were things like “train conductor, riding instructor, the person who takes the dimes out of pay phones (I really missed the boat on that one!), and “his.” (I was a riding instructor for many years, so, yay me.) His was “President, Mick Jagger, “hers.” A tad more specific. To his credit, he is currently a circuit court judge in Virginia, so…not so much Jagger, but at least in the direction of President. Boy done good 🙂
OKAY. Have I distracted you enough with stories of long long ago that you’re not really noticing that the only part of my look that says “British” is a scarf? AGAIN? The takeaway here is that scarves are invaluable styling tools and can adapt any look to something else.
So, shockingly, I’m wearing a white tee with black Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, a denim jacket and a union jack scarf. Oh, and red sneakers…cuz I also feel like I can visualize Mick on stage in converse high tops, so…yeah. I’m Just Like Him.
What I’m Wearing:
- UK British Flag Union Jack Peace Scarf from Amazon (yes, you can buy anything on Amazon).
- White H&M tee, size 4x.
- Black Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda tapered jeans, size 22W short.
- Who What Wear denim jacket, size 3x. Old. Comparable here.
- Red faux Converse sneakers from Target, old. Real converse here.

Now that’s an unusual theme, and you styled it perfectly.
I have to say the red converses are amazing…talk about making you look 10 years younger!!

You should see how I struggle to get into them! I look 10 years OLDER!!!

Bettye, you were very smart to use a scarf with the Union Jack! And I cracked up at your reference to Mick Jagger! Too true, my friend. Well done!

I feel you can never go wrong with a Mick Jagger reference 🙂
Sonja
Great… I was also thinking about using the flag! But then I realized that sewing a dress out of it would be to much. Love the way you styled it with red, blue and white.

I forgot you actually MAKE things! That’s such an awesome skill. I’m a spazz with my hands and clothing requires careful measurements and steady stitches, neither of which are my forte.
Nancy
How fantastic is that! I love the Stones! It was a difficult but challenging theme wasn t it? But very close to my heart so love your interprediction!
bettyewp
I love how we all went in very different directions with the theme!
Ashley
The scarf is such a great addition to this look- and you can’t beat a classic denim jacket! The whole look is go-anywhere chic, well done, lady!
And I love anything British, really- London is one of my fave cities in the world!

Very nice and it all ties in with St George’s Day. We have a St George’s night with our choir on Saturday and our dress theme is red, white and blue.

Lookit me, all appropriate and everything! Will have to look up St. George’s Day, have not heard of that (but I DO have the outfit for it!).

Hi its the 23rd of April, but not always celebrated in England for some reason.

Great job styling, Bettye! You’re a scarf girl like me! I love them and have quite a collection that I enjoy wearing. This was a tough theme, but we rose to the occasion! Always enjoy our style.

I love that you have named your tripod! Scarves count as clothing so there!

Ha ha, yeah, me and Tri – we’re A Thing.

Not only Jagger and the flag but red white and blue too. Another interesting take on the prompt. Thank you

I thought it was great how everyone went in entirely different directions with this one! Will be interested to see the group’s interpretation of the May theme!
