Some Springtime Ramblings
Bear with me here, I don’t have a real specific topic today. Just thought I’d share some random thoughts and what’s going on with me.
I may say this every year, but I feel like Real Spring is taking FOR. EVER. to get here. It LOOKS like spring. The grass and trees have greened up, flowers are blooming, I saw a mosquito…but most days still feel cool and raw. The day I shot these pictures, it was beautiful…but so windy! I’m only sharing the pictures where I don’t look like I’m about to blow away.
I got not one but TWO tickets last week. One was a red light camera and it showed me not coming to a full and complete stop before turning (UGH) and that was $85…then the very next day after getting that in the mail, I got a ticket while parked on the street in Queens for my registration sticker not being affixed to the windshield. It’s current. It was right there on the dashboard, you couldn’t not see it. But it wasn’t affixed. $65 for non-affixment.
It is now affixed.
Aren’t cherry trees the most beautiful?? Long before I was born, when my father was still in the Navy, my parents and sister lived in Nikko, Japan. I have a dream of someday visiting there, and if I am able to, I would like to go in April when the cherry trees are in bloom.
Next week is my daughter’s 28th birthday. I’m very proud of the independent woman she is, but I sure do miss her while she’s all the way across the country. Do you think the birthday elves will transport her home to me for just that one day??
Our Step Up for Autism Awareness campaign finished up yesterday. I managed to walk 24 miles, which was double my original goal of 12. Yay, me. Donations fell just short of our $10,000 goal, though Charity Footprints is leaving the donation page open through the middle of May, so we may just hit it yet.
These pictures were taken on a day during my vacation last week. I’d driven into Queens to go to the only Macy*s on Long Island that had a specific sneaker in stock that I was certain would be the footwear of my dreams. It was in an Asian section of Flushing and I planned to walk around after buying The Most Perfect Shoes Ever and take pictures and have a fun lunch while people watching out the window. I spent 45 minutes looking for a parking spot, finally finding one on a metered parking street that was only good for one hour. The meter wouldn’t take any of my credit cards, so I scrounged around in my purse and found enough quarters for 30 minutes. I FLEW over to Macy*s on the next block, found the shoe department, found the sole shoe girl, tried on the magical shoes – NOPE. Not today, my friends. Walked as quickly as I could back to my car with One Minute to Spare…and that’s when I saw the ticket…not for parking, but for the affixment issue mentioned above. Ugh. No shoes, no browsing around photo-ing, no lunch on the street, and a $65 ticket for my efforts. BUT I had seen this park on my way in, with these beautiful trees, so I headed back there to shoot my outfit. These beautiful trees redeemed the day for me.

Oh boy what a bad luck! But you walked 24 miles? Is that in one day? And do I ,,spot,, there a submission for The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?

Yes! You “spotted” (hee hee) my polka dot look! I’ll send you a pic tonight when I get home.
Ha, 24 miles in a DAY? A marathoner I am not 🙂 No, in a MONTH. That may not seem like a lot to many people, but it was a lot for me.

Love the gold sweater, and of course the jeans and cherry blossoms.
Sorry about the tickets (and the shoes). I have a story about coming to a full stop before turning – maybe I’ll post that in my “ramblings” one day. Love the post name too 🙂

Ha, I hadn’t even made the connection with the “ramblings” name. Subconsciously I knew it was brilliant!

Dang, now that’s annoying. I think our state got rid of the tickets by camera. I know it was a big brewhaha here at one time! Even Rob got busted!!!
but there’s you looking at the bright side with at least you got these gorgeous photos because we don’t have anything like this in Colorado. Although right now I’m in Utah and right outside our window are some gorgeous trees. Course they’re in the sun right now but I’m a twist my husband’s arm and take me over and get some photos hopefully!!
XOXO

I thought I’d heard about us getting rid of red light cameras here, too. No wait, maybe that was school zone speed trap thingies. Oh I don’t know, they’re all annoying (and costly!). I know, I know, if I adhered to the letter of the law I wouldn’t pay tickets. I know. Argh.
Hopefully you got Rob out with his camera! Lucky you to have a live-in photograph
