A Break in the Weather
This spring has been one step forward, two steps back, lather, rinse, repeat. Mostly cold and rainy, with only the most sporadic bits of sunshine and warmth. So I really try to take advantage of some outdoor weather when it chooses to grace us with its presence.
As most of you know, I work at a school, mostly tucked away in the main reception office, a room without direct windows and a “doors must stay closed at all times” rule. I’m not a claustrophobic person, but this is the sort of space that can make anyone feel closed-in. After work I go home to my apartment, which as long-time readers know, is also a little closed-in for my taste. Yes there are windows…but they’re at the other end of the apartment from where I spend most of my time, and they’re relatively high up on the wall, which means you can’t really see what’s going on outside without walking right up to them and looking out. And while window-gazing sounds like a delightful way to spend one’s time, I GSTD.
SO. I’m grateful for a day like today when I can be OUTSIDE in the afternoon – in the air, in the light, smelling a bit of sea saltiness, hearing the birds overhead. My girlfriends and I met for an early light dinner and then headed down to the bay to see if there might be a nice sunsetty sky. My hopes weren’t especially high for that, but it’s just nice to be outside with friends, enjoying it NOT raining.
I’m dressed for a slightly cool spring evening and since I thought we might be walking, I made sure to wear my comfy Skechers. You’ve seen this duster length cardigan before here, and certainly my favorite Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and Daily Harvest Amazon tee many times now. This is not groundbreaking fashion, just the style of real life.
My friend thought she could sneak up on me and Tri while we were shooting.
Hope you’re having a “one step forward” day today, too!
What I’m Wearing
* Daily Harvest/Amazon white tee, size 4x
* Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, size 22W short, in Scottsdale wish
* Torrid grey space-dye knit duster-length open-front cardigan, size 3x, old. Comparable here.
* Skecher Arya black slip-on sneakers

I do love all your ‘sea’ pictures. They always look so inviting.
Love the kinda ‘swirly’ white top you’re wearing too (and the sweater).
Our weather has been much the same. I suspect we’re going to just jump from winter to summer and skip spring this year.

I saw on this morning’s Facebook memories that it was on this day a year ago that I first wore a dress and bare legs to work…so I figured it was time to do it again today. Fortunately it’s a mildish day AND I just got a dress from Gwynnie Bee that, while SLIGHTLY snugger than I prefer, is wearable.
Last night when we were down by the bay, my friends were FREEZING, bundled up in their winter coats, huddled against a little building to block the wind…as I strolled around in tee and light sweater on the verge of sweating. Ha. My internal temperature regulator is SO out of whack! But you’re right, it’ll probably be cool, cool, cool, SWELTERING. I do feel spring and fall are slowly melding into summer/winter and will someday be gone altogether.

I just love that photo with your friend sneaking up on you. Your laughter just made me smile from ear to ear.
I used to get that claustrophic feeling when I was working. There were some days you never really saw the sun. I think that’s why I love summer so much…there is time to enjoy the sun!!

Yay summer! Yay sun! Well, I’m not really a big sun fan. Unless I’m laying on the beach. But Yay summer!

What a great picture of you in the first photo. I love your sunnies! It always looks so picturesque when I see your photos but I know it’s a really crowded part of the country but maybe not as busy as I imagine? Well, here’s to many more beautiful sunsets!

Okay, I’m so vain. I happen to LOVE that first picture of me. Ha, I want to put it on a billboard. “I’m FAT. And that’s okay.” In Times Square. Ha ha!
I’m going to explain in the blog very soon about where I live, but for now suffice it to say I’m on the less crowded half of Long Island.

Agree about that first photo….it’s a winner!

That picture of you laughing so full on is priceless! It made me smile and feel good. That can be hard to capture. All your pictures are fab though. I like your black and white look, it’s classic, casual and fun! We had a couple of weeks of perfect spring weather. I was so grateful that while I walked my dogs twice a day I listed each little thing that made life so grand. Like spring flowers, the soft breeze, the warm sun making the dew on the grass sparkle like glitter. The smell of sun. I swear I can smell sun. Anyway long story short, we have had rain now for a week and another week of it forecast. So I gotta hold on to those memories! ha ah. Great post!
Peace!

“I listed each little thing that made life so grand” – what a nice practice, I might give that a try, too!
