Week in Review: Week 177
It’s the last full week of July. Wow.
Isn’t it funny how amazed we are by the passing of time? That’s like THE most basic concept of life…of the UNIVERSE…and we’re constantly amazed by it. “Wow, it’s almost August/the end of summer/back to school/Halloween, etc!” As though there was a possibility that any of those things would NOT happen. With or without us, time marches on and those things will happen. OH MY GOSH! THAT THING THAT ALWAYS HAPPENS IS HAPPENING! We should not be so amazed.
Anyway. I got to see Katie a bit this week. It always sounds so promising “I’m coming home for 10 days!” but she stays at her father’s house and has so many people to see, friends to do things with, mini trips to take…that I barely get to see her at all. I know, I know, what 28-year-old wants to hang out with her old mom? *I* certainly didn’t. But *I* am WAY more fun than MY mother was! Still.
We had dinner Monday night…we split a lobster roll and baked clams at a roadside clam shack near the apartment.
Then we went up to the little beach by me and watched the sky get darker and darker. It was SO hot when we first got there, then all of a sudden the temp felt like it dropped about 20 degrees, the humidity was just GONE and the wind picked up like crazy. It was wild and wonderful. We sat out in it watching the lightning across the sound (Connecticut is on the far side of the water) until the rain got too hard then we ran to the car.
Tuesday outfit of the day.
I see this lil fella a lot as I back out of the driveway in the morning.
Wednesday outfit of the day
Saw this on a crazy Facebook list about unusual thrift finds. Why. Just why.
Now I need to title SOMETHING “You Won’t Be Able to Stop Giggling Like a Little Girl.”
Saturday I went to Loft to film a fitting room try-on for later this week on Instagram.
Then I went to what used to be my favorite thrift store when I was selling on ebay and on the hunt for vintage clothing goodies. There was nothing good on the plus size rack. I spent a lot of time straightening the clothes on the hangers. RESPECT THE CLOTHES, PEOPLE! RESPECT THE CLOTHES!
Out of the entire store I found only four vintage items. I used to bring home garbage bag sized bags filled up with wonderful things. One was just not that great. One was interesting but badly stained right on the chest…one was cute but not amazing….and one was…too wonderful to leave there.
A 50s or 60s handmade dress in this beautiful sunset color palette. It’s sheer cotton over a satiny lining, with a gazillion pleats. Someone spent a lot of time on this. The zipper is coming away from the dress a bit, but I can fix that (yes, Jodie, THAT I will undertake). I can’t fit into it but I think it will make for a great photoshoot once I find a model. It whet my thrifting appetite!
Saturday night Katie came over on her way back from a trip upstate…she takes wonderful pictures.
We went for ice cream, watched a little tv, she changed the light bulb in my closet and then she had to leave 🙁 and I won’t see her again til October. Sadface.
I read one book, “The Light We Lost,” by Jill Santopolo. I liked it. It wasn’t life-changing but it was an easy read with some emotion. It…made me stop and think a lot about That Guy…I got sad a lot, but because of my own stuff, not from the story. I give it a 3.65/5.
I managed to squeeze out another What I Wore This Week video on YouTube.
And that is all she wrote! CAN YOU BELIEVE AUGUST STARTS THIS WEEK? RIGHT AFTER JULY? AMAZING!

Oh my goodness – litter bags – who knew. I totally agree about the store bags. Don’t cost anything here, but they do frequently have small holes. I used to have tons of them when son & family lived with me and they bought lots of groceries. But now that I’m alone, it’s a challenge having enough without the holes. I’m definitely buying some of the small ones. Thanks for the info.

Yep, litter bags. As much as they’re trying to outlaw plastic (which I get), I have to keep fighting to keep SOME plastic, because you certainly can’t put the soiled litter in a brown paper bag!

i have a million bags here – i can send you some – seriously. or stop by and you can have a huge garbage bag ( or 2 ) full

Of course Katie takes amazing photos…just like her mother.
And look at you tackling some sewing….you make me so proud, LOL!! But that is such a gorgeous dress. It’s like the sunset in a clothing items. You make me laugh…”respect the clothing, people”. Did you really straighten things up?? Dang, you’re a much better person than I am!!
XOXO
Jodie
PS..People meowing?? Do they not have better things to do with their time??
bettyewp
Well, I haven’t tackled the sewing YET 🙂 I really just need it to hold well enough for one wearing in a photo shoot. But isn’t that dress dreamy??
Oh, I TOTALLY straightened things up! I can’t stand when one shoulder falls off the hanger, so the garment is hanging down on the ground. As I was doing it, I was right next to the girl who actually WORKS there, she was on her cell phone as I was straightening, and I was having to squeeze past her cart (full of clothes coming off the racks) and finally I said “excuse me” and moved it out of my way just slightly, and SHE glares at ME! Sheesh.
Meowing persons cd. Takes all kinds.

The plastic bags! I had no idea you could buy those. The things you learn! Thanks for that.
Your daughter is so beautiful! My son is 27 and rarely finds the time to even answer a text. I’m trying, trying, trying to remember how I was at that age, absorbed in a thousand other things. I don’t want to be one of THOSE nagging, whiny old ladies! Haha But it’s so HARD!!
bettyewp
Well, don’t buy THESE! Robin just pointed out my math error and these are actually THIRTY-SEVEN CENTS per bag! Gah!
I know, we don’t want to be clingy moms, yet…I want to spend time with my child.

Bettye… great idea to look for alternate cat litter/poop bags but I think you slipped a decimal there. Those bags you linked are 37¢ each. I use bread storage bags, these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MDM6SK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which cost a little over 2¢ each.

Ha ha ha! And THAT, my friends, is why I do not work in the financial services industry! Wow, I was WAY off! Before I bought them I did that math and thought wow, they’re a lot more economical than I thought they were! Ha. I’m a boob. Gonna go change that in the post. And your bread storage bags look great…and are TRULY economical!

I’m sorta floored that August is THIS WEEK. Crazy! Summer is really flying by.
I love that little bunny in your yard! We have a family (I think… they’re always together, anyway) of bunnies that live in the next yard over under a huge fir tree, but dip into our yard to eat grass and play. They are SO cute. They drive my 3 dogs nuts (barking like mad at the window), but it’s worth it.

I feel like there are way more yard bunnies than there used to be. It makes me wonder what natural predator they had that is now gone.
