Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet virtually once a month. One of us chooses a theme each month, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie. And then we all style an outfit based on that theme.

This month’s theme was chosen by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and is “Music Icon.” See my post about the theme below…and be sure to take a look at my fellow bloggers to see how they have interpreted the theme this month.

And now for this month’s theme, Music Icon!

I am really not an Icon-y sort of person. I’m not gah-gah over Lady Ga Ga or mad about Mick or bowled over by Bowie. Not that these people (and others) aren’t incredibly talented, but…I don’t get all fan girly about celebrities. We’re all just humans with our own set of strengths. And don’t get me wrong, I love music and I have a lot of admiration for those who can create something from nothing (a song, a story, a plan, an idea). But there are no pedestals in my world – certainly not among people I don’t even know.

BUT. As a child, I was obsessed with The Partridge Family and David Cassidy. I had all their records and the special “Partridge Family” issues of Tiger Beat magazine. My childhood bedroom walls were plastered with pictures torn out of magazines. Keith (David Cassidy) and Laurie (Susan Dey) were my favorites and each got their own wall. I think I STILL know all the lyrics to several of their songs.

If you’re not familiar with The Partridge Family (then who are you, really??), their most iconic performance costumes were wine-colored velvet blazers or vests over white shirts. I’ve had a weakness for wine velvet ever since.

While I would love to identify with Laurie Partridge, I think here I come closer to channeling my inner Shirley Jones, the mom.

What I Wore

  • Catherine’s Wine Velvet Blazer, size 3x. Old, I bought this on Poshmark. I really preferred the Amazon blazers below but I didn’t think the sizing was going to accommodate me. In the end, I almost wish I’d gotten one of these, as the one I got was way too big, I might have been happier in a little too snug.

This also comes in hunter green, burgundy, navy, black and teal…in straight sizes up through XXL (which seems comparable to a 2x).

This comes in wine (shown), black and teal (they call it green but it looks teal to me), in small through XL (comparable to US 14-16)
