Monday

Bobeau floral top, 3x, old | Old Navy oatmeal longline cardigan, size 2x, similar available here | White Old Navy jeans, size 24 short | Abella blush pink flat, comparable here

A regular workday, possible rain, definitely a trip to the farm. The top is lightweight, as is the cardigan – they’re the perfect combination for a mild day in the low 70s. The flats are a nice pinky-nude shade that I like with the white jeans. I have a hard time selecting shoe color to go with white jeans. If I wear white shoes I feel like I look like a nurse. Dark shoes are such a contrast. This nice nude shade is perfect, I think.

Tuesday

Plaid Junarose dress, size 24, old | Grey Old Navy longline cardigan, size 2x | Reebok Classic sneaker

I love this outfit – you saw it earlier this year here (I can’t believe how much my hair has grown in five months!). It was going to be mid-60s today with maybe some rain. The dress is lightweight and short-sleeved so I could take the cardi off if I got too warm. The cardi is medium-lightweight, just right for a 60-degree day. I love my new Reeboks! I’ve been searching all summer for the perfect white running style shoe that wasn’t over the top “modern running shoe,” to wear with summery dresses. These are super comfortable. I do keep a pair of old sneakers in the car to change into when I go to the farm for Camera Club. The paths are always a little muddy there.

Wednesday

I was off today for Yom Kippur, never left the house or got dressed.

Thursday

The weather forecasters are really pissing me off! Every day they say RAIN ALL DAY, so I dress appropriately…and then? NO RAIN.

I consider dark wash jeans and my black Skechers to be rainy day wear as I can slosh through the puddle I will invariably park in and no harm will come to nice or light-colored clothing. I stared at my closet for a long time this morning, touching everything hanging there, saying “too cool for this, too warm for that, too cool for THIS, too warm for THAT,” and realizing that I have a shortage of lightweight fall tops. It’s too cool for summer tops, it’s too warm for my thick, cozy sweaters I wear in the depths of winter. Some summery things combine nicely with thin cardigans for a transitional outfit, but not all. So I’m on the lookout for a couple thinnish sweaters that can be worn as a one and done.

SO, I ended up with a combo I’m not thrilled with. I am just not a fan of this red waterfall cardigan I got at Torrid last winter in a “buy one, get THREE FREE” sale. There was not a great selection and this ended up coming home with me cuz it fit. Historically I’ve wound up with too many things in my closet that were only there cuz they fit. I have to keep reminding myself that is not a good enough reason, but…this was FREE. Anyway, I put it over this black and white striped tee from BooHoo. Done.

Friday

Apparently I caught whatever my computer had last night, as I woke up at 4am with a very sore throat and slight fever. I took some tylenol for the fever and my own special cold remedy – that usually, if I catch it right at the very start, will knock it out before it gets worse. And that is a shot of whiskey + a double-dose (2 droppers-ful) of echinacea and goldenseal. Echinacea is foul-tasting stuff (tastes like fermented dirt water, if you can imagine what that might taste like) and the whiskey helps cover up the taste. And in a normal human, the single shot might help you fall back to sleep so you can rest. But for me and my super-human alcohol and drug tolerance, it does not. But I DO believe that whiskey has some healing qualities, and this combo usually does the trick for me.

Around 6am, when I had to start getting up and ready for work (there were too many things going on today to stay home with a clear conscience), I did feel slightly better, so off I went. BUT it was supposed to rain all day…and if it didn’t, I would have camera club at the farm…so I didn’t want to wear anything precious and just schlubbed into work in baggy black jeans, a baggy blue linen top and my worn-looking Skechers. Not my finest fashion moment.

In the end, when we gathered for our Friday meeting, my supervisor was like “you don’t look so good, go home,” as by that time the fevery feeling had returned and my cheeks were fever flushed and my throat was in pain again. So after the meeting and ticking a few things off my “must get done today” list, I came home and took this sad picture.

And now I am back in my nightgown and a cozy chenille cardigan while I have some chicken noodle soup, and then I’m going horizontal under something warm and closing my eyes.
