Mad About Plaid
I keep reading about plaid being a hot trend for fall 2019. Uhm. Plaid is hardly a TREND. It’s a CLASSIC. Plaid has been around for centuries. And it’s not going anywhere.
I’ve had this Old Navy black watch (dark green, navy and black) plaid dress for going on three years now. I shared it on the blog in March 2018 here. I love it under this black longline fine knit cardigan.
This is one of my favorite times of year, style-wise, because I can comfortably layer up with cardigans and still go bare-legged. Tights, as you all may know, are the bane of my existence, so I will hold out with cold legs as long as possible.
If you’re a novice plaid-wearer, black watch may be one of the easier “starter plaids,” because of it’s dark tones. It’s easy to wear with denim or black pants…or white jeans.
And plaid suits so many styles: classic, preppy, sporty, 90’s grunge, you name it!
And I finally found the cognac bag of my dreams! This is exactly the one I watched sell out on Nordstrom.com, then I found it on Poshmark, looking brand spanking new! For like a third of the price!
What I love about it, besides the color, is the fact that it’s not just a convertible bag, it’s a 3-WAY convertible bag! I’m just showing two ways to wear it today (crossbody and with the shorter handle). Gotta leave ya wanting a little somethin somethin.
I will say, I’ve been wearing this dress and cardi combo with black flats and my black bag the last few years but I’m really preferring it with the little extra warm pop of cognac in the bag and shoes.
Are you mad about plaid??
I’ve got quite the collection going on….

I think you look stunning in the black watch tartan outfit. Your shoes and new bag in cognac complete the whole elegant look. I really like the other outfits especially the red shirt with the long grey cardigan. That’s so great that you found the exact bag you wanted and it was such a bargain!

Thanks, Cheryl! Oh I did love that red plaid top. It was a Gwynnie Bee rental and like $70, I just couldn’t do it. It’s actually still available at Nordstrom, but it NEVER goes on sale! Yeah, I was pretty excited to find the bag on a secondhand website – it’s such a new item I was very surprised to see it there! But lucky for me 🙂 It always pays to check the secondary sellers when you’re looking for something.

I’ve only started embracing plaid…isn’t that funny? I don’t know what it was about me and plaid before now, but I didn’t have much of it.
But I ADORE this blue plaid with the cognac. And yippee that you loved the purse. I can’t wait to see the third way to wear it.
XOXO

“I’ve only started embracing plaid…isn’t that funny?” YES! I’m surprised you haven’t just powered through to WEAR THE DAMN PLAID!

Love the new purse – so glad you found it at a good price. I’ve been looking for a purse and have not found anything that’s just right. It seems like such a personal item and yet so difficult to get just the right one.
I only have one or two plaid things in my closet, but gosh, I remember wearing plaid when I was a kid. My mother always said, “save your clothes, they’ll come back in style”.
Also wanted to tell you that you’ve inspired me with the long cardigans and I’ve finally gotten one. I had a closet full of sweaters, but no long ones. Mine’s a lightweight one, wore it yesterday and love it. Think I may have to find another one or two.

Woohoo, Iris joined the longline cardigan club! I think you’ll like the little extra warmth in the winter. I also really like that I can wear them with pants AND dresses. I like the cardi to be close to the same length as the dress (unless it’s a dress with a firm waistline, then I don’t mind a short cardigan), and the longlines are (for short me).

Yeah I’ve noticed when they say “trend” it really just means for this one season. Like every fall the “trend” color is some shade of burgundy. And every spring it’s some shade of pink and every summer it’s some shade of red and every winter it’s some shade of gray. And plaid, stripes, dots and floral are always a trend just slightly different. Really, it’s kinda dumb to be whip-sawed like this every season. Stepping off my soapbox now….

Whip-sawed? I’ve never heard that expression!
I have a dress – the one I just wore to the wedding last week – it’s just a wine jersey knit dress, and I would probably keep wearing it for ages BUT – it has a lace-up v-neck in front. TRENDY from a couple years ago when I got it. I let it slide by cuz the dress FIT and at the time, that was the very low bar I set for myself. If it FITS, buy it. And now, on the infrequent occasions I wear it, I’m always like UGH, this dopey LACE-UP thing. So I only wear it as a last resort. If it didn’t have that, I’d wear it much more.
