How to Look Cute AND Be Comfortable at Thanksgiving
What’s worse than sitting at a table with company after eating way too much food, having your belly straining against a snug belt or waistband?? And while people want to hang around and chat or watch football or play charades, all you can think about is ripping your clothes off your body so you can breathe again?!
Welcome to Thanksgiving: The Day of Thanks AND Eating More Than Any Human Should.
We’ve still got a couple weeks before The Big Day. Let’s try to come up with a better plan so you’re NOT miserable all evening, unable to move. Or breathe.
First, waistbands are the Devil’s work. There are SO many cute, stylish dresses out there with no tight bits to cut off your circulation or oxygen.
Next, dress in a way that allows you to hide that food baby so you don’t try to suck in your stomach all night. Kimonos, ponchos and even large pashminas are great (literal) cover-ups.
Stretchy pants, leggings, jeggings, ponte knits – they are all your friends today. You can bend in them to get a heavy turkey out of the oven or curl up easily on the sofa for a nap.
Low- or no-heeled, rubber-soled shoes with good support are a must for standing for hours in the kitchen peeling potatoes and washing dishes…and even for taking a little walk after dinner for some peace and quiet and fresh air.
Fun accessories divert the eye away from an ever-burgeoning belly. Try a pretty velvet headband, interesting scarf, statement necklace or fun earrings to keep all eyes UP HERE.
No one wants to be miserably uncomfortable on a holiday. You want to be able to enjoy being with loved ones, sharing a delicious meal and contemplatings the things you are grateful for. With a little advance fashion planning, you can have your cake and eat it, too.
What’s in your closet for Thanksgiving??

I always remember “dressing up” for holidays, which I get, it’s very nice, yadda yadda yadda…but Thanksgiving especially is such a work/eating heavy holiday, why wear uncomfortable clothing?

I love the idea of leggings, maybe a mini shirtdress, ballet flats and a big scarf. And then that’ll have to be the outfit formula for the next day or two (or month or two) – LOL! (well, not really LOL). These are all great suggestions and I love the links. I’m going through my closet in my mind right now for what I can put together from each of those categories. Thanks for the inspiration and, as always, the laugh!

Oh yeah, that sounds great! Do you go somewhere for a big meal or have company come to you? Or do like me and hide out with a dozen doughnuts 🙂

That’s so funny because just a couple of years ago I came up with the exact opposite for my Thanksgiving outfit! I hate that feeling of overeating so I wear tight clothes. That reminds me not to overeat in the first place. I also try to make our own turkey and fixings before so the foods aren’t all new and enticing!! I know …I’m crazy!

Great post! I’ve been working on getting my house ready for 17 guests – some for the entire week and hadn’t even thought about what I might wear. I’m gonna work on that – and I love all your ideas!
