Workday Wardrobe ~ Dec. 9-13, 2019
This is my weekly series where I take a look back at the outfits I actually wore every day to work.
Monday
I’m still loving this cream cashmere v-neck from Ellos.com, but for crying out loud, what is going on with my jeans?! Could they BE more baggy and wrinkled?? The legs sorta look like I could go down a size, but the waistband is pretty snug and I don’t think I could get INTO a smaller size. At least I’ll get to the laundromat this week and they’ll shrink up a bit in the washer and dryer! And how cute are my new leopard flats? I tried So Many Pairs – the cut wasn’t right, the fit wasn’t right, the colors weren’t right, the PRICE wasn’t right. I finally ended up with this pair from Target that I have to wear with arch inserts, which isn’t ideal as a) they make the shoe a little snugger on my foot and b) they keep slipping forward so my arch and heel are not being supported properly. It’s always something, amiright??
Tuesday
Another rainy day. Black crewneck sweater is light on a mild day and cozy on a cold day. It’s magical. My workhorse Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. Thrifted leopard scarf so the outfit isn’t too dark and blah. And a kitty to distract you from my messy rained-on hair.
Wednesday
A snowy day…and I managed to get home jussst before it was too dark to get a picture outside. No snow boots means wearing the sneakers I don’t care about. GV jeans I don’t mind getting sloshed. And an easy, warm oversized Rachel Ray turtleneck. It has an asymmetrical hem that’s hard to see in this photo. I’m not a big fan of a trendy detail like that because in another year or two it might look very outdated even though it’s still a very nice sweater. I was at that point where so few things FIT me, that I could not be (that) choosy.
Thursday
I’m writing this on Friday night and I already can’t recall the events of Thursday. I remember it didn’t rain. I feel like it always rains (or snows) lately. I have little motivation to dress nicely when it’s raining. I just end up looking like a drowned rat.
ANYWAY. It didn’t rain yesterday and I still couldn’t get out of rain attire mode. Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, Skechers sneakers. BP chambray shirt from Nordstrom and grey cardigan from Old Navy.
Friday
Yes! Yes! I wore these same jeans three days this week! That is a perk of wearing simple, neutral things that don’t draw attention to themselves. I couldn’t get away with wearing the fox dress three days in a week! People would notice! They would ask if everything was okay, if I was okay. But a nondescript pair of dark wash jeans? The ticket to invisibility. And sometimes I want that. Like when it rains ALL. THE. TIME. and I look like crap.
So, GV Amanda jeans, Skechers, the beige merino wool Tahari sweater-a longtime favorite, and a black chenille cardigan from the winter of 2017, aka The Winter of Chenille. I was a little obsessed.

Wow, I’m reading soon after you posted this. I’ve been so very behind it’s nice to be sort of back – of course that will change. But for now…
Loved all my old GV jeans, but the newer ones just don’t fit me as well. My size hasn’t changed, but theirs apparently has. Finding jeans for me is almost as bad as finding shoes.
Do love the picture with Janey – it’s always nice to see her.

They do have different cuts within each “model.” Like the Amanda style (which is what I always wear) comes in a “tapered” style and more of a boot cut style, a skinny style, etc. But it seems that not all retailers make this distinction, which is unfortunate for the consumer. I’ve been wanting to try the Amanda skinny, but haven’t yet found them in plus/my size. Kohl’s does a good job of naming each specific, individual style (and their prices are reasonable).

I had to laugh at the first picture – didn’t notice the fit in the cream jeans until you pointed it out but then, it was all I could see. 😂😂😂 Love the subtle variety and the elevation by accessory you do so beautifully.

Ha, oh great 🙂 It’s all *I* see! But I do feel like it’s more noticeable in pictures, somehow…I guess you’re freezing motion and have time to really pick apart the details. In real life, or even a mirror, you’re always moving, changing position, all that creasing would not be so static.
At least, that’s what I’m telling myself 🙂

Well I didn’t really think the jeans in the first picture looked very bad :/ If you love those jeans, maybe you could have somebody take them in just a tad all the way up the leg. I’ve done that to mine before (the last pair I did was my very favorite. Until my husband washed an ink pen with them). I love those leopard loafers. I have a hard time finding them in my two-sizes-below-bigfoot shoe size. And I love the addition of the leopard scarf – definitely adds interest – but not nearly as much as Miss Kitty! What a pretty girl! And I just love that door strung with the lights and the bench (I think) in front of it! Thank goodness somebody else forgets what they’ve done the previous day. I thought maybe I was the only one :/ I always enjoy seeing what you’ve worn to work. I sometimes work in the shop so my clothes aren’t ever interesting or fun because I don’t want to wear something I like and might get stained.

I don’t love them enough to spend more money to have them altered. Plus, I have Fear of Alterations. Here’s how that goes. I spend a money on a thing I like…it’s wearable but not EXACTLY right. But it’s WEARABLE. What if I spent the ADDITIONAL money on an alteration and it was either No Better…or worse, WORSE! Now I’ve spent TWICE the money on an item that is now UNWEARABLE. Hence, Fear of Alterations 🙂
I think I only ever paid for an alteration ONCE in my life. On slacks that went with a pretty expensive (for me at the time) suit for work/interviewing/work conferences. They made them TOO SHORT and they were UNWEARABLE. They were sort of wide-legged and that shape needs to be a little longer (they were not “cropped wide legged jeans,” this was like 2002) or they just flop around weirdly. They’d CUT OFF the additional length and now they were RUINED. I was too much of a wuss to ask for my money back and I’m not convinced I wasn’t partly to blame. I want the TAILOR to understand the current styles and be able to guide me appropriately. And no tailors around here seem like that. At All.
I’ve just become accustomed to having clothes that don’t usually fit quite right because of my unfortunately proportioned body (wide but short with VERY short legs). I know someone’s screaming inside their head right now IT’S NOT YOU! IT’S THE MANUFACTURERS! Ha. But they can’t be expected to provide a perfect fit for EVERY BODY.
Sigh.
I feel like in the colder months, my outfits aren’t very interesting either. Especially on wet days. I can’t.
