Workday Wardrobe ~ Jan 13-17, 2020
I’m in full Week 2 of #jan20x20 challenge so I’m still working with a limited wardrobe. I’m still just at 17 items…and one of those busted through in the seat this week so I’m now down to 16. It’s okay. I feel confident I could do 20 days with fifteen items. It would be easier in the warm weather when layering is less necessary. And I’m throwing in Sat/Sun since I “dressed” for and photographed them for the wardrobe challenge.
SATURDAY JAN 11
Day 1 of A Beautiful Weekend to Remember. We went to the Chinese Scholar’s Garden in Staten Island and I really only put the jacket on for photos. Other than that I just wore the linen blouse and was sweating. It was glorious.
I really like this outfit.
- J Jill White Linen Blouse, size 4x
- Loft green utility jacket, size 3x
- Charlotte Russe skinny jeans
- Aerosoles Betunia leopard flats
SUNDAY JAN 12
Sunday was an even more beautiful day. The air was warm, the sun was warm. I went with another friend to brunch where we sat outside on a Brooklyn sidewalk and just enjoyed the food, the day, and watching people walk by. The red shirt didn’t stay on much!
- Grey Torrid graphic tee (“Today Will be Great” – I usually wear it ironically, ha ha, but that day it was right on).
- Sanctuary red plaid blouse, size 3x. This is one of my nuuly.com items this month and I have really gotten a lot of use out of it…I have a couple more outfits I’d love to use it in but I may run out of time before I have to send it back.
- Black Avenue leggings
- Reeboks Classic sneakers
MONDAY JAN 13
Back to work, and back to more normal winter. Not too cold for bare ankles, but…cold enough for a chunky turtleneck. This one is also from nuuly.com.
- Anthropologie Paloma Knit Tunic, size 3x
-
High-Waisted Secret-Slim Pockets + Waistband Power Slim Straight Plus-Size Jeans, size 24 short
TUESDAY JAN 14
This. This was a sad, sad day. My beloved Charlotte Russe skinny jeans bit the dust…after five long years. We shared a lot, these jeans and I. The seat just wore through. I don’t know if it’s fixable. The fabric is so so thin. And after Wednesday’s post I’m going to have to make them into pot-holders or something.
- American Eagle cream mockneck sweater, size XXXL
- Charlotte Russe skinny jeans, no longer available 🙁
- Aerosoles Betunia leopard flats
WEDNESDAY JAN 15
SPOILER ALERT: Linen wrinkles.
- J Jill White Linen Blouse, 4x
- Old Navy Black Duster length cardigan, 2x. No longer available. Comparable here .
- Charlotte Russe Black Refuge skinny jeans, 24 short. No longer available.
- Aerosoles Betunia leopard flats (are you sick of seeing these yet??)
It just occurred to me on the Wednesday “post” that I should be posting links to sustainable brands that use ethical procedures. At least as an option. When I was looking for a comparable substitute for the Old Navy black cardigan I came across a line called Amazon Essentials, that had some nice longline cardigans that really resemble the Old Navy ones. But I thought oh gosh Amazon is probably the WORST. So I did a little digging and found this, which is, of course, only applicable to “Amazon” products, not items sold by other companies via Amazon. And I guess anyone can SAY anything they want, but…this seemed promising. I’m pleasantly surprised. If it’s true.
THURSDAY JAN 16
A favorite color combo: navy and camel.
- Anthropologie Blair Turtleneck, size 2x. Only available in white, in straight, plus and petite sizes
- J Crew Navy Slim Crop Pant in 4-Season Stretch, size 24. They come in many colors, in straight, plus, petite and tall sizes
- Kelly & Katie Jordi camel loafers. They also come in black, leopard and a black and white spotted.
- Arm Candy: Janey Cat
FRIDAY JAN 17
Here come da cold. Here come da cold.
Needed ankles covered and several layers.
- Sanctuary red plaid blouse (am I going to be able to part with this??), 3x.
- Old Navy Grey Cardigan, 2x. No longer available.
- Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda tapered jeans, 24 short
- Black Skechers
- Land’s End black long silk underwear under all the above, 3x
And that’s all folks. Just three more days of the #jan20x20 and I don’t work on Monday, so no more work outfits.

Love all the sweaters – but I think Monday was my favorite.
Wish I could handle bare ankles – but that won’t happen, so shoes are always a problem for me.

Ha, I hear ya! This has been a mild winter (up until yesterday!) so I was able to get away with bare ankles. AND I haven’t been able to find ankle boots! I have a pair of true “snow boots” from literally like 25 years ago. I wear them IN THE SNOW. Not to work, not to the market. But like if I’m shoveling or walking the dog, which, obviously, I am no longer doing. They’re not “cute” like today’s snow boots that are also fashiony. So I’ve been looking at the weather for the week ahead and I’ll save my longer Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and sneakers for that day cuz at least there’s not any exposed skin. And once the jan20x20 is over (Monday) it’ll be GV jeans and sneakers a LOT of days.

I think all the outfits look great and it’s wonderful to see how you mix and match clothing items.

Thanks, Cheryl. I’ve liked having a much smaller “palette” of clothes to work from. And I always said I only NEED two weeks worth of work outfits and two dedicated “fun day” and “lazy day” outfits, and then you can just repeat. No one’s going to point at you and hiss “OUTFIT REPEATER!!!”

That is a sad, sad day. I love how you want to turn the jeans into something else. Good for you.

I was being mildly sarcastic. I don’t need potholders. But I’ve found some companies that will take your unused denim and THEY WILL make potholders (or totes or insulation, or whatever) so they may be getting them (along with two other old worn out pairs i just found in a box).
I miss them. They played a very specific role in my wardrobe and I’m already feeling the hole (no pun intended).
