Vacation Wardrobe ~ Feb 8-14
This is an extra added bonus version of Workday Wardrobe for this week only…
Saturday
Day One. We drove up to Los Angeles from San Diego to have dinner with more family…and spent the afternoon having lunch and browsing Melrose Ave, going into shops and people-watching.
- Maeve top from Anthropologie, size 26. When I bought it last summer (my birthday gift to myself) they were out of size 24, which would have been my normal size. Now I wish I’d gone down to a 22, cuz this is constantly falling off my shoulders. Not sure if that can be altered. I mean, I’m sure if you have enough money, anything can be altered, but I wouldn’t want to spend a ton of money.
- White Old Navy cropped raw hem jeans, size 24
- Brown (well, they say brown, I say camel or chestnut) Kelly&Katie Jordi flats.
SUNDAY
We had brunch on a covered patio while it rained then went to Huntington Gardens for a stroll. I wore my nurse’s outfit.
- Blue & White striped linen top by Ayr, size 3x
- White Old Navy cropped raw hem jeans, size 24
- Reeboks Classics
- Cognac crossbody by Fossil
- It all looked better and less nursey earlier in the day when it was cooler and I had my green utility jacket on
MONDAY
After driving back down to San Diego we went to…oh gosh, where did we go? A mind is a terrible thing to waste. The place with the seals…LA JOLLA! I got to pull out the Junarose dress but I needed the lightweight duster cardigan over it. We sat outside for dinner after and we were freezing! Fortunately, they had lap blankets for guests or we never would have made it!
- Dress by Junarose. Old. Never to be found again.
- Palomino lightweight duster length cardigan by Old Navy. I sure wish they’d bring this line back again. They’ve been so useful.
TUESDAY
In the afternoon we went to Balboa Park, but…I’d hit the wall by this day and just barely managed to walk around and see a few things. I will say this, California is much more sitting-friendly than NY! There are benches everywhere. Everything I’m wearing here is old and no longer available: American Rag “Russian Nesting Doll top;” black Charlotte Russe Refuge jeans (which I forgot to NOT put in the dryer and they shrunk in tightness and length – they’re ON but they felt annoying…and THAT’S annoying as I only recently discovered them and have been wearing them tons); old black Adidas.
We went out to dinner with The Boyfriend to a cute little Japanese restaurant in Little Italy (go figure). Sometimes my daughter is a giant.
- Old Navy dress no longer available.
- Kelly&Katie Jordi flats.
WEDNESDAY
Little did I know, while dressing that day, that I would be facing death that afternoon. To my credit, I did not fall on the slippery, algae-covered, rocky steps of Ocean Beach.
- Democracy floral top, no longer available
- White Old Navy cropped raw hem jeans, size 24
- Cognac Aldo espadrilles, old
THURSDAY
Forgot to take a shot of my plane outfit. Jeans, tee, cardigan, sneakers.
FRIDAY
Back at home, I took a low-effort stab at Valentine’s Day dressing.
- Red tee from Old Navy, old.
- Pink August Silk cardigan, 2x. Very old. See the wrinkles?
- Scottsdale wash Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 24w short
- Black Adidas, old old old.
Funny, when I look back at my outfits, day by day, it seems like I was barely there for any length of time at all! But this week was certainly a nice change from jeans and sweaters…sweaters and jeans.
Enjoy your weekend xoxo

Your holiday photos are fabulous,it would have been wonderful to visit your lovely daughter. I have a top that was a little wide and I sewed two darts equal distance apart at the back neckline which made it more comfortable.

Thanks, Cheryl. It WAS wonderful getting to spend time with my girl 🙂 Ooh, darts! I don’t really know what that means but it sounds cute! In the spring I’ll take it to a tailor and say CHERYL SAID DARTS!
Melissa
I absolutely LOVE your commentary with your pictures! Nurse outfit really made me laugh! Haha
It sounds like you had a delightful visit with your daughter. Yay! Your stories and pics are fabulous as always. Thanks so much for sharing! Yours is my favorite blog…
Sewing: I bought a new machine that has made a lovely dust collector. Le sigh! 😁
bettyewp
White pants + white sneakers = nurse outfit. I really try to avoid that but…limited vacation wardrobe.
NEW SEWING MACHINE! THAT’S exciting! What are your hopes and dreams for it? Besides catching dust…?
Julia
Wow! That trip did go by fast. Your daughter is tall and beautiful. I’m sure you enjoyed each other and that weather! I’ve said this before, but I can easily see you in California instead of the northeast. I’m sure there are employers out there who could use a whip-smart employee (and probably a place that has less stress…). I’m looking forward to when you live there and I’ll live vicariously through you!
bettyewp
The weather was delightful…as was Katie 🙂
Yeah, I don’t know how whip-smart I am…but maybe SOMEONE is looking to hire an old dullard.
I can see me in CA too. Or Brooklyn. Those are the two main pulls. They’re the same…but different 🙂
Iris
I know you enjoyed your time – but traveling can be exhausting (for me anyway).

It WAS exhausting. That’s why I came home Thursday when I don’t have to go back to work til Tuesday – so I had time to RECOVER!!!

Nurse outfit made me seriously laugh. And to think I always call it my monochromatic look!! Then again maybe that’s why I always feel the need to add in some color somewhere!
I see Cheryl hit that point about altering the too big top. I think you need to do it because it’s a gorgeous blouse and you should wear it more.
That comment that you were freezing?? Shocking. That’s how I am almost ALL the time (even here in AZ this winter. EEEEK)
XOXO

Well, now you know you’re a monochromatic nurse.
It’s the white shoes with white jeans. I generally Will Not Do That, but I had an abbreviated shoe collection with me 🙂
I got that Anthropologie top at the end of last summer so it only got 1 or 2 wearings…and I don’t wear in the winter, but I’ll def be wearing it come warmer weather. And I’ll have to do SOMETHING about the fit or I wouldn’t even be able to wear it to work.
Yes. Me. Freezing. It’s rare but it happens. There was a big burly chap in the window seat of my aisle and he also got up to get his jacket out of the overhead compartment…so it wasn’t just me! But it was SO NICE to walk outside into the balmy night air once I arrived in San Diego.

You have the most feminine pieces!! That top in the first photo is so pretty. I really, really like the print. We are (my husband doesn’t know yet!) re-doing our bedding. I am looking for a quilt with a similar color palette to that top. It has everything. Floral, paisley and even a little Asian influence. Perfect with your white pants.
And I also really like the Ocean Beach outfit. Again, so pretty and such a pleasant print and color palette. You look beautiful!
bettyewp
Yeah, my wardrobe definitely has a more feminine vibe in the summer than in the winter.
Take a look at Anthropologie Home for bedding, they have lovely prints on their bedding.
