But Who Doesn’t Like Cute Lil Lambs??
ABOUT MY OUTFIT
I’m still finding different ways to style my blazer. It’s more a fall item than winter…cuz it’s too cold (most days) in winter to wear alone, but it’s too bulky to wear under a coat. I hate coat bulk. I wish the blazer was lined in some fabric with “slip.” I hate when shirts get “stuck” on the inside of coats and you’re always shimmying and tugging to get everything to lie nicely.
I like the black and white plaid over the blue of the Tencel chambray shirt. Honestly, this color blue goes nicely with almost everything in my closet. And I like the blue of the shirt with the black skinny jeans.
And then there’s the shoes. I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of black flats that will go with pants and dresses…more spring/summery than fall/wintery (because in my Dream World I WILL find black – and cognac – ankle boots next year, and that will be my cold weather footwear). But I don’t have them yet. And that is what I would have worn with this outfit.
I like the leopard flats with the black and white plaid blazer…and with the blue shirt…and obviously with the black pants…so I reasoned that I would like them with all those things together. It doesn’t NOT work. But…it feels just slightly off-balance having the only “brown” thing at the base of the outfit. But sometimes I don’t “see” these things til I look at the pictures afterwards. Seeing things in the mirror is just different than seeing them in the mirror. Maybe if I’d grabbed my cognac bag, that would have repeated that tone higher up and maybe that would have balanced it out.

So, yes about the kick flares. I was thinking about trying them b/c a respected blogger I read said it was the end of skinny jeans and now it would be just flare and why not flare crops? However when I started looking for them I couldn’t find them anywhere. The style had already withered on the vine. Now, I’m pretty sure skinny jeans are here to stay b/c they work with all shoes, all shapes and all seasons. Really, if leggings are here to stay (yes, please!) then skinny jeans have got to stay. Love love love your loafers!

I’ve heard that more than once about it being the end of skinny jeans. But for plus/curvy women they’re so much easier to find a good fit! I don’t think they’re going anywhere 100%.

I really love that approach of making considered moves in fashion. It seems like so many looks that bloggers go on and on about simply don’t work on Main Street America. An example in my mind is snake print. Bloggers are telling us over and over that “it’s a neutral” and “it’s a classic.” Yet I’ve not seen it in real life One. Single. Time.
Granted, I m in a rural area. And then there’s my personal bias against the look. So there’s that.
Still, I’m just happy seeing a blogger with more “tried and true” looks. Thank you!

I read SO many blogs and IG accounts…it’s easy to get caught up in “theoretical” fashion. The clothes are interesting and distinct and as you said, things you really never see in real life. I get so excited (I’m a nerd) when I’m in a city and see someone wearing what I call “blogger clothes.” When I just had brunch outdoors with Katie our first day in LA I said to her after appreciatively people/fashion watching for awhile, “it’s so nice to actually see clothes on the street that I usually only see in blogs and instagram.” Long Island (as most suburbs probably are) is very “mall-centric,” with people shopping at the same chain stores as one another, so rarely do you see anything really different or interesting. It takes YEARS for styles to trickle down to the mainstream malls from designers and The Big City and fashion shows. By the time something’s at the mall, it’s practically over in BlogLand!
It takes me so long to get on board with something new…and then when I finally think I like it and want to wear it, I think “oh but it’s so over-saturated at this point,” but really, in the real world it’s NOT. I experienced this two years ago when, after seeing them on blogs for a year or so, I decided I really liked those little round straw bags for summer. But I felt like everyone and their dog already HAD one and did I really want to have the same exact thing as everyone else?? But then I couldn’t even FIND one in the real world because REAL people were NOT wearing what bloggers were showing. I ended up buying one online but the strap didn’t work for me and I sent it back…and the FOLLOWING year I started seeing them in actual stores – Macy’s, TJ Maxx. So it was like a 3-year lag behind bloggers showing it and it showing up in chain stores.
I do always have a slight DESIRE to dress a little more…I don’t know…modern? trendy? unique? But for the most part that doesn’t fit my everyday life. Even just wearing my white reeboks with dresses, I feel like “real” people are looking at me like WHAT IS SHE DOING? Ha. But that combination I REALLY like and will not be giving it up anytime soon (if ever).
Anyway, I’m glad you liked the post 🙂

I’m the same…it often takes me awhile to warm up to something. Skinny jeans come to mind. I resisted for years and said “no way”. Now they are a closet staple although I’m still way partial to my baggy comfy boyfriend jeans. That’s why I don’t worry much about trends…if I love something I wear it, if not I pass. I do love this whole look though and I think the leopard is was the perfect shoe choice. I’m thinking I may have to steal the look at some point! I also agree about blazers. I love the idea, but not the discomfort. If I wear one when it’s cold enough to wear a coat then I have to carry the blazer to put on after the coat comes off…huge pain in the butt. I cannot live with the “bunchy” feeling of stuffing a blazer inside of a winter coat. xo

re blazers: I guess that’s so many corporate type people wear baggy trench coats – so they fit over a suit jacket!
