Week in Review: Weeks 206-207
Since last Monday’s Week in Review was slightly pre-empted by California in Review, I’m including about a week and a half in here…
Friday, Feb 14
Got home late from the airport last night and let myself sleep in. Had a really bad dream about Mr. & Mrs. Landlord who were watching Janey while I was away. In the dream they had trashed my apartment and were mad at me and blaming me for all the mess and I was so upset. I’m glad I didn’t have that dream while I was actually away or I might have come home early! I only left the apartment once to get an egg-bacon-cheese sandwich for breakfast/lunch, then I just relaxed.
SATURDAY, FEB 15
Went to a free iphoneagraphy class at a local Apple store with a friend. It was very basic and I’m glad I hadn’t spent money on it. They do have other classes I want to take that aren’t so basic. Did you know they offer tons of free classes for iphone, ipad, iallthethings?
Then to lunch/brunch. I’m a brunch girl. If it’s the weekend, that’s the menu I want. I had something like cocoa con leche whole grain french toast with shredded coconut, figs (?), and strawberries. I’m gonna say it sounded better than it was. I’m a pain in the butt and most things don’t live up to my expectations. But the sausage was good!
SUNDAY, FEB 16
Very happy to be back home to my juicer!
Into the city with two friends later in the afternoon so we could have late lunch, watch the sunset set behind Jersey City, then go over to a “seesaw light installation” at Pier 17 at Southstreet Seaport. These were fun and I laughed so hard my stomach muscles hurt. There was ice skating up on the rooftop so we watched that for awhile then went into what could probably best be described as a 180-degree view igloo ski chalet coffee shop.
MONDAY, FEB 17
LAST DAY OF VACATION. Trying not to stress. Just roll with it, Bettye…just roll with it. Was woken up early by Ms. Landlady who has one of her personal training clients come to the house once a week for her workout. The gym is on the other side of my bedroom/bathroom wall, so I hear them very clearly. Since I was AWAKE (argh) I continued reading A Little Life…which is tragic and beautiful and I’m loving it. It’s a long slow read…I take a little break now and then to read a bit of something lighter…but really, I’m so hooked. All I want to do is keep reading. I’m not even halfway done and I feel it’s going to get a 5 out of 5 rating from me…and that is RARE. I had started it once before several years ago and just couldn’t get past the very beginning. There are a lot of characters and it was hard for me to keep them all straight…and finally I just gave up. I’m So Glad I’m giving it another try.
TUESDAY, FEB 18
Back to work. The bright spot is that this is the vacation week so there’s only administrative staff in, so it’s quiet and a little peaceful and a good time to get caught up on the types of things you only ever get to “when there’s time.” And I had some little Valentine’s gifties waiting for me when I got to my desk this morning.
I returned that dang-blasted laptop today. They tried to explain away all my reasons for returning but I was like NO THANK YOU TAKE IT BACK NOW. Glad that’s sorted out. And I’m back to the familiar slowness and contrariness of my desktop computer…until I get my tax refund 🙂
WEDNESDAY, FEB 19
Took another free Apple class, this time on iPhone editing. Not that I haven’t been doing this for years, but you never know what little tip they may share with you. And, free. And dinner out after. Win Win Win.
THURSDAY, FEB 20
The week is winding down. Just a quiet day at work and a quiet evening. I actually gave myself “the night off” and got ice cream and watched a movie – The Farewell on Amazon Prime. The story is endearing, and I think the characters and acting were good, but I feel it fell a little flat from the actual story, which is of a Chinese family whose matriarch (Nai Nai) is diagnosed with cancer and given four months to live. They decide not to tell her but hurriedly plan a wedding so the whole family will have an excuse to come see her one last time. I actually preferred hearing the full (true) story on a This American Life podcast.
FRIDAY, FEB 21
Friyay! Flying solo in the office, so super quiet. Went to see the Bill Cunningham documentary after work. He has always intrigued me. He was the original street style fashion photographer but seemed so charming and humble and old fashioned, not like anyone of today.
SATURDAY, FEB 22
Got out for yet another free iPhone class – this time on taking video…then to a little public garden with a friend for a walk, then dinner out.
So, this is not paid/sponsored/affiliated/anything, but starting today I’m going to do a one-month test of Curology (that I keep wanting to type as Urology), a skincare regimen that What Kate Finds said was life-changing for her skin. My skin’s not bad, but it’s not amazing, and I do get the occasional bumps and such. I just meant to get the one-month free trial box, but it came right before Christmas when so many packages were arriving and it just sort of got lost in the shuffle…and before I knew it a month had gone by and another box had been charged for and delivered…so I’m stopping the subscription now until I’ve tried it, and then will re-asses. And figured I would share my findings with y’all.
AND…damndamndamndamndamn! I lost one of my new earrings while I was out today. UGH. I called the places we went and left my name and number but DAMN!
SUNDAY, FEB 23
A quiet, easy day. Read, stayed in bed, shot an outfit, went to the market.
What I’m Reading
And here we go into the last week of February….

Your photos of NYC are really really good. I love the sunset one the most. Totally agree with you about the dress and mural. I love that style with the black outlines. I read the Shipping News a long time ago and felt the same. I like how the author describes the scenery but the guy seems like such a drip, of course I can not remember how it ends….a paper….probably a love interest…..fix up old family homestead…..something like that. Well, have a fantastic week!

Thanks, Julia. Yeah, Shipping News. I liked the beginning when the lead character had the slutty wife. But once they moved to Newfoundland and it was just different Newfoundlanders telling their boring Newfoundland stories…I was out. It took me forever to finish cuz I was like IT’S JUST SO BORING but after all that I was hoping for a spectacular ending. Nope. The house fell in the water!

i feel you for the earring! I’ve lost so many “good” ones that i literally only buy them now at places like Walmart. Told Husband not to get me anything nice anymore because i’m just too clumsy / forgetful / unlucky / SOMETHING.
i do hope somebody finds it and you get it back
bettyewp
Yeah, seems unlikely. There was too much walking to and from car, it could be on a sidewalk or on the street somewhere. Boo. I THOUGHT the clasp seemed a little too “easy,” but I was excited to wear them instead of dropping them at a jewelers to fix somehow. Wonder if I could buy just one ?
Karen
Wear just one! Wear a little stud on the other side for contrast and be boho! xo
bettyewp
Brilliant! But now I don’t have to cuz a little birdie told me that you CAN buy just one earring! And I did, and it should be here Friday!
Karen
YAY! And WOO-HOO!
Marceline Miller
Yes! I sent you an email

I’m a brunch girl, too- can’t beat a good chance at bottomless mimosas!
I hope you find your earring- I’ve had something similar happen and it’s so frustrating!
That floral dress + floral wall are SO PRETTY! I really want that dress!

So far no luck with the earring. I think it’s a goner 🙁
You’d look amazing in that black floral dress!

Really enjoy your blog! Just wanted to mention there is a book by Bill Cunningham which was (intentionally) published after his death. The title is Fashion Climbing. Delightful, dishy, lots of insight into the very snobby world of fashion, definitely a must for the TBR list if you have not already read it. I found it interesting that he lived at Carnegie Hall for several years as I was not aware there were artists studios.
Really good you were able t return your laptop!
bettyewp
Yes! I can’t remember if I saw it mentioned in the movie or where, but I’ve added it to the list! They showed pictures of the Carnegie apartment. It was hardly an apartment., it was like a storage room that he managed to squeeze a twin size mattress into.
Karen
I loved your week! Again a mashup of fun, special moments, disappointments, annoyances and true relaxation. And all the photos to remember it by. You are living a quality life, my friend. xo karen

A year ago I might not have agreed. But now…it’s good. 🙂

I took a free pet photography class at the Apple Carnegie Library in Washington DC. It was really fun! Lots of folks brought their dogs, and a lot of cute photos were taken and shared.
