Week in Review: Week 209
Monday
I don’t like Mondays. I don’t care if Monday’s blue. Love is Blue. Blue, blue, my world is blue. That was my first “favorite song” and the first 45 record I ever owned. Paul Muriat? I’ve been kind of wanting a turntable again. Maybe once I end up wherever I end up. Maybe once I get rid of all the stuff I don’t want ending up wherever I end up.
TUESDAY
The Day: Mild. Tacoless. Afternoon rain. That is all.
WEDNESDAY: The One Where I Did a Fun Thing
My friends and I went to see Cat Video Fest 2020. There was much awwwing and knowing, appreciative chuckles. Those wacky internet kittehs!
THURSDAY
Guess whose birthday it is? Miss Jane is 15 today. I got her some kitty goodies from the market this afternoon when I did a not-panicked-but-just-in-case coronavirus shop. Cuz quarantine. I’m not really concerned (Bettye the Cynic) but…in the past three days we’ve gone from zero cases in NY, to nine cases in the city yesterday, to 22 cases today, with one on Long Island. So I got a few extra cans of soup just in case.
If I get quarantined I will definitely put the Christmas decorations away.
FRIDAY
High Point: Finding Mexican Coke at the market! Mexican Coke is real cane sugar, not corn syrup like American Coke. When I saw it I remembered there was a chicken recipe I needed it for, so score!
Low Point: I went into the market in the first place for tv snacks for Friday Night Movie on the Sofa…and I set the bag of cheezy salty crunchy things down to look at some pressed juices they had…and I forgot to pick it back up. Was almost home before I realized. That’s what I get for looking at something healthy.
SATURDAY
A quiet day. The most exciting thing that happened was getting a text from my ex-husband that his son was headed over here right now with a bunch of stuff I’d left behind their shed when I sold my house almost 11 years ago. I’d kinda sorta forgotten about it. It’s all outdoor stuff, random vintage concrete statuary, wrought iron tables, some planters…an asian ceramic pot that had been my mother’s that I thought was long gone – so that was a nice surprise. Anyway, now my patio looks like Sanford & Son: The Outdoor Version.
I’m happy to have all the stuff…I just need to make it all work on the patio so it doesn’t look like messy junk to my landlords. It will look nice once I get all the pots planted out with the deer, elf, etc., mixed in. But til then, it does kinda look like messy junk.
SUNDAY
Mostly quiet again, but more productive. Shot an outfit for a blog post, did some writing, fixed something on the computer. Had a lovely sticky bun and cappuccino from the bakery I go to. Tomorrow is back to Two Weeks or More of No Sugar. Again. With the weight I’ve lost I’m between sizes in a lot of things and I don’t want to buy summer clothes til I’m a solid whole size. And I guess it would feel better to go down than to “bulk up.” Ha ha. In my dreams. Doctor: You Must Bulk Up. Me: Oh Darn. Must I?
I’m headed out soon to meet SWSRN for The Last Supper…and to enjoy the extra hour of daylight.
What I’m Reading
Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West. This is the memoir that turned into a Hulu series called, shockingly, “Shrill.” I read it after my unintentional back-to-back readings of pedophile-lit, hoping for something light and entertaining. Uhm. It wasn’t particularly light. There were many heavy (sorry, pun truly not intended) issues. Weight-ism, sexism, rape culture, loss, heartbreak. And it was almost too entertaining. She’s very clever and sarcastic, which I like…but it was almost too much for me. It could have used some straight man lines to give me a break from cleverwittysarcasticcleverwittysarcastic. It was fine. If I’d read it any other time I’m sure I would have enjoyed it more. But after my recent heavy, dark reading I was looking for something light and easy-breezy. 3.6/5
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. Heeerrre was my nice, light, easy read. I don’t usually look for fluff, but…this was exactly what I needed right now. It was cute, quick, no surprises, a happy ending. Yay. It’s not great literature but if you want a quick, pleasant read, here you go. Chick-lit for sure. 3.25/5
That’s a wrap!

i laughed and laughed at the “Sanford & Son” reference, which is what my outdoors usually looks like bc we’re out in the country and no one has to see hahaha
Thanks for the review of “Shrill” I was on the fence about that one; now i know it’s a “not right now” read for me

It’s not a bad book, just if you’re expecting it to be humor, it’s really not. I mean SHE is humorous but the story is not.

What an awesome surprise…and opportunity to start a veggie garden in planters. LOVE the bird bath (?) with the tree trunk stem.

I don’t know how veggies would fare on that patio, once the trees leaf out it’s quite shaded. Maybe some spring lettuces before then, but I was mainly planning on shade loving perennials, annuals, and some little shrubs.

The only difference between junky front patio and decorated front patio is grouping. That and add some fairy lights, and it looks intentional…haha.
XOXO

This summer I REALLY want twinkly lights on the patio. I’m challenged with tall things to attach them to…that won’t look too clothes-liney.
I hate renting and always having to be so mindful of what the landlords will think.

“Tacoless.”
LOL! Perfect description that says so much. Love it!

Ha 🙂 I was hoping someone would get that !

I’m so jealous that you got to go to the Cat Video Fest!

Ha, it was fun!
