What Inspires Me: Blogger Anna Newton of The Anna Edit
I’ve shared Anna Newton of The Anna Edit with you before, when I selected one of her outfits as a favorite blogger outfit of the month back in June 2018. Recently I was reading one of her blog posts about productivity and I stopped to admire her outfit and thought ooh, I like that! Then a second later, OOH, I HAVE THAT! Realizing that I had reasonable facsimiles of each item in my closet already…I had just never put them together before.
It’s so interesting how sometimes it can take seeing someone else do something, or wear something, before we can see ourselves doing or wearing the same thing. I wrote a blog post about that just recently. There are many times I have things hanging in my closet that it never occurs to me to wear together, but then I’ll see a blogger wear them all assembled and I’m like DUH!
I think that’s a great way to start increasing your item to outfit ratio (“item to outfit ratio” does that make sense? I just made it up and it sounds so good, like I know what I’m talking about, that I hope it makes sense). I have a handful of bloggers/IGers I follow who share my sense of style and have a lot of the same types of basics I have. I love watching them to see how they combine pieces.
I do my own outfit-making, too, of course…but sometimes we can become blind to what’s been hanging in our closets for a long time. Taking inspiration from others is a good way to spark interest in something that has sort of lost its luster to us.
I like this ochre cardigan. I love the color. It’s the coziest chenille. But I haven’t actually worn it in almost two years! The length sort of throws me. I preferred it over dresses whose length it matched. But I haven’t worn winter dresses in almost two years cuz a) tights are the devil’s work and b) ankle boots, or the lack thereof. So I haven’t worn it.
I know I have many duster-length cardigans that are this same length and longer, but they’re finer knits and more slim-fitting so don’t look “too large” to me. This feels large. It was large when I bought it! I was in a period of buying anything that FIT. Because so few things did. There are more than a few things in my closet like that right now. I like the color, the style…but am not liking the fit…but am not prepared to let them go yet Just In Case. I think they’ll get packed away for now…and I’ll take them out in the fall, try them on, and reassess.
Anywho. I enjoyed this combination…although it did make me wish I had a black tee with thin white stripes. I feel like this time of year, with warmth just ahead, I not only start craving lighter clothes and softer colors, but also more pattern.
What are you craving as we head towards a new season?
What I’m Wearing:
- Ochre Chenille Ava&Viv/Target Cardigan, 2x. Old. Comparable here in plus and straight size. There’s a really beautiful used one, medium, in almost the exact same color Right Now (3.8.20) on Poshmark.
- Black Joan Vass Tunic, size 3x. Old. Similar here in plus size and exact here in straight size.
- Old Navy High-Waisted Secret-Slim Pockets + Waistband Power Slim Straight Plus-Size Jeans, size 24 short.
- Aerosoles Betunia Leopard Flats

I totally know what you mean. At least me…I tend to put the same things together. Because I know they look okay. So in the last year I start to put it together like before, and then make myself change it up somehow. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it’s a nice surprise!!
I just adore those leopard flats with this.
XOXO

The leopard flats were definitely a good purchase 🙂

Love the outfit. The chenille cardi looks great and doesn’t look too big. Oversize is a thing at the moment anyway. My friend swears by Snag tights and a couple of bloggers I read have also mentioned them as there’s no tight elastic. Might be worth a try https://snagtights.com/pages/size-guide?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoYyVo9CU6AIVi7TtCh20LQ18EAAYASABEgItcvD_BwE

I’m embarrassed to say that I BOUGHT two pairs of Snag Tights (in December!) and have never tried them on! They sort of got lost in the Christmas packages sauce and then I just…didn’t relish the thought of trying them. It’s always such a sweaty unpleasant fiasco for me. One pair I was going to dye – got the dye and everything. They didn’t have cream ones, so I bought the bright white ones and hoped I could turn them into what I needed.
If work closes down I’ll put that on my list!

I like it all just the way you are! I love the chenille cardigan, so cozy looking and the warmth of the color. The stripped tee shirt is that a rule you have made? Solids are good too. Your shoes are the pattern that holds the look together. it looks super fine!

What’s the striped tee-shirt rule?
Solids ARE good, and what my closet is mostly comprised of. So I’m just happy for a little change, especially right now when I’m so winter clothing weary.

Another winning casual outfit and I agree with the other commenter who said the cardi doesn’t look too big. It’s loose and breezy-looking, in a flattering way.
Regarding tights, have you tried Teggings from redressnyc dot com? They’re sort of a cross between tights and leggings, but much closer to leggings in terms of ease of putting on and taking off. They come in three lengths and a gazillion colors and fit up to a 5x. I’ve been very pleased with them so far.

Ooh, I have NOT tried (or head of) Teggings! I used to go to Redress when they were a brick and mortar store in Brooklyn. They had a fashion show once and it was the first time I’d ever seen really large women in person, seem SO comfortable with their bodies. It was kind of life-changing. I was very disappointed when they closed up shop and went online only. They used to have new things AND vintage plus size items, and they’re hard to find.
I will def take a look at their tights/leggings, thanks!

Recently bought a cardigan in that color because it was on sale for $8 and it fit. Then I got it home and was like…. Uh, what to wear this with? So thank you for this post. You will be showing up on my blog in the near future. ha ha ha
I often turn to Pinterest for style ideas but I prefer to look at what my blogger friends are wearing. Everything just feels a little more realistic and wearable.

Oh, I love that cardigan. I have a new cowl/turtleneck sweater that color and fabric and it’s so comfortable. Just bought it on end of the year clearance so won’t get a lot of wear out of it this year – but it’ll be waiting.
I always get so many ideas from your blog. Thank you!
