Styling a Plus Size Leopard Dress Two Ways: for Office and Casual
Whee, I actually bought something new…and kept it!!! I’ve been doing a LOT of returning this month…which is hard when I’m not working at school because I don’t have mail pick-up here at the apartment, so I have to take things to the post office, and I’m trying to only go out once a week. Anyway…I don’t have to worry about returning this cute leopard tee shirt dress because I really like it and am happy with the fit.
This is just like the other Old Navy tee shirt dresses I’ve bought over the years, but I feel like they’ve sized it down just a teeny bit…in a good way – it’s a little shorter than they used to be…and the arm and neck holes are smaller. Hallelujah! It’s in a bunch of colors and patterns and couldn’t be easier to throw on and go!
So I’ve styled it two ways today (though there are countless options, leopard print goes with so many colors and styles): an office look (in case we’re ever allowed to go back INTO an office) and a casual look.
And let’s just pretend, shall we, that I have cute little black flats on. And as long as we’re pretending, let’s also imagine I’m wearing the gold bead bracelet I bought myself for Christmas and now can’t find anywhere (story of my life) AND the long gold pendant necklace I’ve been wanting for years but haven’t found one I liked at a price I wanted to spend. So, lots of imagining going on here!
The dress is sleeveless for warm weather but a lot of times we’re in air-conditioned offices so it’s nice to have a lightweight cardigan to put over it. This is that same fine knit black Old Navy cardigan I’ve been wearing for several years, all year round. It’s out of stock currently but I see it go in and out of availability all the time.
This ^ is how you can wear leopard to the office. This is a subdued (relatively speaking) leopard print, just two colors…and sort of a cool-toned background. The black cardigan over top tones down the animal print just a little more, and by seeing just the vertical line of pattern down the front, you only get a small dose of leopard.
Or, you may want to wear it more casually for dinner with friends, or to a gallery on the weekend (as if). So I tied the light blue Tencel blouse over top and slipped on some white sneakers and instant casual! Sorry there’s been so much “top tying” lately on the blog, but…there’s been a lot of top tying lately!
I like that you see the leopard peeking out of the unbuttoned shirt. I think I might like a grey tee shirt worn tied up this way over the dress, too.
I think I’m going to have many ways to style this dress in the future!
Would you wear a leopard dress (I know you would, Jodie!)?

WOW! I LOVE that dress on you, more than anything else I’ve seen. Perfect with the sweater, and I like the shirt with it too. If they have any other prints/solids in that fit, get them! Great length and flows beautifully. And you look so happy in it. The best accessory is your smile!

I actually did get one other print. They were on super sale that day, like $15 each!

Love the dress it fits really nice.

Thanks, Paulina. I was happy. Last year when I bought a stretchy ON tee dress, the fit was SO weird I sent it back and thought that was probably the end of them for me. So I was very pleasantly surprised when I got these!

I love this look on you! The print looks good on your complexion. I’m still loving the white slip on sneakers… 😊
I just realized there is a box to turn on notifications should there ever be a response to a comment. D’oh!

That dress is perfect! So many ways to style it and it looks GREAT!
Rita
That dress looks like perfection on you! The length, the cut, the color, all of it is perfect.

Yes, I would wear one – if I had one that fit and I liked. That one looks great on you. And, you’re getting really good with that ‘tied at the waist’ shirt. I’m definitely gonna have to try that if I ever leave the house again.

You could just practice wearing it around the house while you’re alone. I find “practice” wears help normalize “new and different” things for me, so it’s easier to wear them in public.

I love the top tying. It makes an outfit look more intentional sometimes!!
And yahoo for successful online shopping. I have been doing WAY too much of it for sure!!
Yeah for Old Navy…I swear they have some wonderful things. And did you see that Gap Factory Outlet has 50% off their sale items. I find they are sometimes as good as Old Navy.

I never look at Gap cuz they don’t carry plus size. Which is a shame cuz I really like their “modern preppy” aesthetic. I remember how excited when “Old Navy” first opened, cuz it was like “Gap Outlet,” and they had plus sizes in-store.

I love your new dress, the style, the print, and how you’ve added the tied shirt and black cardigan all look gorgeous.

Thanks, Cheryl!

What a fantastic look on you….both of them! I love the way you’ve tied that shirt and I have a couple of denim/chambray-type shirts I need to try that with. Did you ever get the black flats you were ordering a few weeks ago? I don’t know if you wear wedges, but I can see that first look with black or natural wedges, too. And I love the dress with the sneakers! Heading over to Old Navy now to have a look at those t-shirt dresses!

The black flats were part of an Amazon Prime Wardrobe order, which is like a “try without buying” thing. Neither pair worked out and everything went back. The search continues. It should not be so hard. My last black flats were grosgrain and I thought that was the perfect summer material, can be dressed or dressed down…I have a weird feeling about black leather in summer…
Did you see anything you liked at Old Navy?
