Work From Home Wardrobe ~ April 20-24
MONDAY
Work from home Day 21. Thought I was going to run errands this afternoon so was going to come up some new outfit…then we were going to have a zoom meeting rightaway so I just threw something on the fast. Then, no zoom meeting and I talked myself out of erranding.
It’s harder to go out in the world now with the mask mandate. I hate the bandana trick, it’s 8-ply thick and too hot, I can’t breathe, but I can fog up my glasses horribly, no matter where I place the mask on my nose. I don’t understand how like everyone else in the world has real masks. Did they all just have these lying around the houses in case of a virus pandemic?? Anyway, I did order some masks last week – according to their website they should have been here by Friday and here it is Monday and still no masks. And the tracking just shows me a sadface. OH WELL WHATEVER.
It was a little chilly in the apartment. This place does stay very cool until well into the heat of the summer, so that’s nice. For then. For now, it’s chilly. So the camel turtleneck seemed cozy. And I only put on shoes when I (finally) went out to the car for the tripod.
Camel and lightwash denim. Mwah!
TUESDAY
For the LIFE of me I could not think how the Stayin’ Alive dance move went! Anyway, we had a virtual dance today for the kids and clients at school…I was able to pop in for a little while between webinars…and in my mind the dance had a luau theme, so…!
This is actually a dress I bought last year when I was desperately hunting for something to wear to a “beachy wedding.” I bought this one as a back-up, but before wearing it would have needed a new bra (so my straps wouldn’t show) and to be shortened…a LOT. I tied it up for the photo and was still tripping over it! In the end, I didn’t wear it and it’s just been hanging in the closet. I figured I could get at least one wear out of it before passing it along!
WEDNESDAY
Thought I might go out. But didn’t. Thought my masks might come. But they didn’t. Thought I might get to the post office to send out some returns. But I didn’t. Thought I might wash the dishes. But I didn’t. Thought I might finally bake something with the brown bananas. But I didn’t. I did meet up with some friends on a zoom call. But I didn’t need shoes for that.
THURSDAY
I’m definitely feeling the whole “loose top over leggings” look this week! It’s cuz I’m not going out. Everyday I think maybe today but then I stay inside instead.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll go out. You know…if I want to keep eating food.
FRIDAY
Third day in a row of the black leggings. It’s a slippery slope, my friends. The fancy top was for another zoom dance for the kids. It’s another “it fits, buy it!” purchase. I don’t think I’ve worn it since Thanksgiving 2018. There’s nothing wrong with it, I just don’t really feel like me in it.
I will NOT wear leggings next week. I promise.
Judi
All great looks and I particularly like the maxi dress tied up in a knot up front. Now I will finally wear the “too long” (in my opinion) maxi I’ve had set aside for two years.
I hope your Development efforts are successful, as our Prez is stagnant and an absolute obstacle to fundraising. But we forge on, don’t we? Take good care.
bettyewp
Yeah, “the knot” is a good tool 🙂
We just committed this week to “pivoting” our May 16 dinner dance fundraiser to an online event, so there’s lots of work to do in a pretty short period of time! It’s all new everything for everybody, so…fingers crossed!
Hope your president gets on board that as awkward as it it may seem, this is no time to stop fundraising!

Was wondering the same thing about the masks! I am in southern CA and when I last went to the grocery store almost two weeks ago, the majority of customers had nice masks (various prints etc.). Don’t know how they suddenly came up with them 🤔. Some even had the disposable ones which have not been in stores for a long time.
bettyewp
The ones I ordered are the disposable ones. Don’t recall at what point I wrote about them in the blog, but after not arriving last Friday as they said they would be, then on Thursday, the 23rd, I got an email from the company telling me my masks would arrive on the 20th yes, back to the future). They had not. It’s the 25th and they still have not.
If I could find my sewing machine (seriously, it’s not like an EARRING, how can I not be finding it??) I would try to make one that would be more comfortable to wear than the 8-ply cotton bandana. If I tried hand-sewing one it would surely fall apart while in the grocery store and everyone would point and silently scream at me, a la Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I’m not taking that risk.

You might want to rethink the “fancy” black print top because I think it is gorgeous on you! I have disposable masks because I work at a dialysis clinic and of course we have been working all along. But they are rationed out like gold! LOL
bettyewp
I know, there’s nothing WRONG with it. I just don’t really FEEL good in it. I’m not getting rid of it right now as it’s a good “dressy” top for if my weight went back up, and those can be hard to find.
Wow, how is it at the dialysis clinic these days?

The last time I went for a blood test the nurse at the clinic said if Still kept my hospital appointments I ought to wear a mask, and her daughter just happened to be selling some she had made so I was able to buy some for me and family, but they are black, so I look like a bank robber everytime I wear it, also don’t have to go to hospital appointments now. Also like the floaty black top. I have been wearing legging for most days getting a bit fed up with them, but cant go out for another 12 weeks, so they are an easy option to put on.
bettyewp
I was supposed to have my yearly scan this past week but I rescheduled it as I just didn’t want to go to the cancer center right now, masks or no masks.
Ha ha, bank robber. I keep thinking, come summer, everyone’s going to have “mask tan lines.” Will lipstick sales go down?

The mask thing is quite the quandry isn’t it. I did the bandana mask thing also and I agree it is aggravating to wear. My sister in law has volunteered to sew my husband and I masks, and she has been making them for people, but she said the problem for people that are sewing them is there is no elastic to be found. So I let her dig through my grandmother’s sewing stash of stuff that I had and she found stuff she can use. We are awaiting our masks in the mail any day. So any of you people that might have a stash of sewing stuff that you don’t use, please share it with people that can use it for these masks!

I have a boxful of fabric, but it’s heavy vintage decorator fabric and I don’t think anyone would want to wear that especially as it starts getting warmer. Would they? I’m happy to ship it out if I thought it would be useful. It def needs to be washed as it’s been sitting in a cardboard box for SO many years. What do you (or anyone) think?

Whew! i hear you on the hot masks. My sis-in-law sewed masks for us with a pipe cleaner in it, so fits a bit better across the nose. Another friend made us cloth masks, too. We’re blessed with having generous people in our lives who sew. I read how to keep glasses from fogging but can’t yet vouch for whether these methods are effective:
1. wash your glasses in soapy water and let air dry. Soap makes a film that the moisture droplets in your breath don’t stick to
2.put a tissue across your nose and then put the mask on. Tissue absorbs those moisture droplets in your breath.

Don’t get me started on washing these %&^$E%!! glasses! Ha. I will NEVER get glare-free lenses again. They ALWAYS seem smudged and cloudy, the ONLY way to clean them is with warm water and soap and air drying, as soon as ANYTHING touches them they are smudged and cloudy again. And that trick isn’t working anyway. I read an explanation in the NYTimes about why the soap trick doesn’t work on glare-free glass but I forget the explanation, just the outcome.
I have NOT tried a tissue. I will try that, thank you 🙂

BTW, loving the dance!! And yay for leggings – don’t apologize 🙂
bettyewp
Ha, I had to google “staying alive dance move” after I took those pictures and realized I was way off base but OH WELL WHATEVER 🙂
MJ
I love the “beachy wedding” dress! I will get married again just so you can wear it LOL… can you believe it’s been almost a year? And I’m still married, even in quarantine!!! I have never thought about tying up some of my long maxi dresses, but it’s a great idea… I’m going to try that if they ever let me out of this house again to go to an event 🙂
bettyewp
Dress up for dinner out on your balcony!
MJ
That’s an idea… the weather is nice today! And G did ask me yesterday “you’re wearing THAT to your zoom call?”… I guess he’s not a fan of my t-shirt and sweats lather, rinse, repeat look, y’Think? I need to step it up 😉
bettyewp
Yes! I keep thinking I will get outside today but things keep coming up! I have a friend zoom at 4:30 maybe I’ll go sit in my car for that with the windows down and a cocktail in the cupholder.
WE WILL ADAPT

I’m with everyone else…that beachy wedding dress is fabulous. Who cares if your bra straps show?? We all have them, wear them, it’s no biggie!!!
You’ll be glad to know you weren’t here this week. We are in the high 90’s…so no leggings for me!!

Aside from the strap issue it was wayyy too long. Dangerously long. I wouldn’t get enough wear out of it to warrant spending money on an alteration. And I bet it would be $$$ cuz it’s two layers to hem.
You say yes, I say no. You say tomayto, I say tomahto 🙂
Iris
Ohhh, I love the dress. You should get it hemmed – or measure and send it to me to hem! Also love the top in the last picture – very becoming on you. Of course I always love the warm looking sweaters. And btw, I didn’t go out either – but then I haven’t been out all this month. I do have masks though. A friend brought me one and and I bought a couple of homemade ones. Yes, I could have made them – just wasn’t in the mood. Take care!

Grr, masks, just got another email today from the company I bought my masks from…they’re STILL saying they were shipped on April 13 and will be here in 3-5 business days. From April 13. Which is well over a week ago. Guh. The past few times I’ve gone out I’ve just worn my bandana…uhm…bandana style, you know, like a bank-robber 🙂 It’s a little more comfortable but my gasses still fog up. I tried the tissue trick at home one day and it didn’t change anything. It’s not moisture that’s fogging up my glasses, it’s the steam from my breath being trapped by the bandana.
Guh, sorry, just venting.
Take care!
