Week in Review: Week 216
MONDAY
Janey is always ready for the next zoom call.
This is a fun app on Google Arts & Culture that takes your picture (or a picture you took of anything) and reproduces it as different styles of art. That’s me!
TUESDAY
This photographer Austin Paz on Instagram has some really beautiful shots of deserted NYC and sells prints. I may need this one.
Started an online course on video editing. Class One, I’m already behind, ha ha. Gah.
WEDNESDAY
The cupboard, she is bare. I’ve been waiting and waiting for the face masks but…I need to go get some food.
THURSDAY
My inbox is the devil.
FRIDAy
TGIF. I definitely need a couple days off.
I finally ventured out to the market and pizza place for a slice for take-out AND stopped for gas, even though I’ve been on the same half a tank for like six weeks. But I couldn’t pass up gas at $2.15 a gallon.
Feel like crying (in a good way)?
SATURDAY
The day got away from me when some work things came up…but the bright spot was a “craft zoom session” with Katie (San Diego), my sister (South Carolina), and my niece and great-niece (Los Angeles) in the afternoon. It was good to have a little family time, even if only virtual.
I finally started on my monthly scrapbook collage journal! I’d been collecting pictures, etc, since the beginning of the year but had never started the project. So while zooming, I got January done! Woohoo. Right on schedule, as usual.
My zoom-crafting spot.
SUNDAY
I totally splurged and went thru Wendy’s drive-through for a honey chicken biscuit breakfast sandwich and coffee and to McDonalds for their sausage patties (McDonalds has The Best sausage!) AND a sweet tea. And that was the meal du jour.
I had a giant To Do list yesterday, but…didn’t get to a single thing, so it was leftover for today. And I still only got to a couple things. That’s not a good start for the week as I’ll be playing catch-up all week.
I have a couple fever blisters popping up so of course I had to google “are fever blisters a sign of coronavirus?” There seems to be no connection. I get them pretty regularly so I’m not really concerned.
It was a pretty inactive week. I heard they’re supposed to make the decision about NY schools in the next couple days. Things are getting much better here (relatively speaking) but I just can’t imagine them reopening schools before the end of the year. It is virtually impossible to practice social distancing in a school setting. And whatever’s going to happen, I’d rather just know than to keep waiting.
WHAT I’M READING
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver. This was a nice story. Last year I read her One Day in December and…didn’t love it as much as I’d expected from all the positive press. But expectation is often the killer of books (and movies!) (and life in general!) for me, so take my rating with a grain of salt. I liked TTLoLB much better. It’s just a sweet, moving-but-not-gutwrenching story with exactly the ending you expect. I recommend. 3.85/5
WHAT I’M WATCHING
I watched The Sweetest movie! About Time with Rachel McAdams, Domhnal Gleeson and other people you might recognize but not be able to name. There’s a little bit of having to suspend disbelief (of which normally I am not a fan), but it is so charming and enjoyable, I didn’t mind in the slightest. If you like nice movies about nice people, with no superheroes or espionage or overt ridiculousness, please watch. I’m shocked it escaped my notice for seven years!
For some reason (thank you, coronavirus?) HBONow is free right now (?) – I just realized that this week, don’t know how long that’s been going on for or how long it will last so I’m trying to catch up on all the HBO series I used to watch when I had television. I watched the final season of Veep, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, which is SUCH a good show. Makes me REALLY laugh. My least favorite episode of the entire series…was the final episode. But I don’t want to give anything away. If you haven’t watched the series, I highly recommend.
Hope everyone’s staying safe.

That’s so good that you caught up with your family! I watched all the episodes of Unorthodox on Netflix over this weekend and wow it was fantastic, a real eye opener. Thanks for your review of the series, I really learnt a lot. Stay safe and take care of yourself.

I was amazed at the culture right here in Williamsburg. I know there’s a very large Jewish community there, but I didn’t know about the rituals, etc.

It’s nice to “see” family again, I bet.
As for going out, I really am trying hard to get my immune system hardly again. Since everyone who is worried is wearing masks, I think the healthy ones shouldn’t. Did you read about how Sweden is approaching this? It’s very interesting.
We just went to Sams, and they are still out of tp….It’s so depressing. But at least we got cheese so Rob is happy.

The challenge about wearing vs not wearing masks, is even if you feel healthy, you don’t know if you’re a carrier and could make someone else sick. This virus is a sneaky one!
I have not read about Sweden, but I will!
