Ageless Style: Summer Love
Welcome to this month’s Ageless Style linkup where each month, ten different women share their sense of style based on one person’s theme. Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks came up with this month’s theme, which is “Summer Loving.”
While I immediately started humming the tune from Grease, “Summer Lovin,” I didn’t want to be quite that literal in my post. So, instead, I’m going to share some things I love about the summer.
It’s Summertime and the Dressing is Easy
Unlike fall and winter dressing where there are so many layers and so many things and so much effort just to get all that stuff on your body before walking out the door: tights and long underwear and boots and this sweater over that sweater and coat and scarf and…GAH!!! Summer: slip dress over head, slip feet into slides, DONE.
Summer Dresses are Like Wearing Clouds
In recent years I’ve tried to limit my clothing to natural materials, and especially in the summer. I run Very Hot, and the more breathable the fabric, the better I feel. Wovens are my favorite: linen, cotton, rayon/viscose.
One of the reasons this dress has been such a favorite of mine for several years is that it feels like wearing nothing. The viscose fabric is lightweight and floaty, and the cut of the dress keeps it away from my body. I’m so happy on the days I can wear it!
Gardening
Admittedly, it has been a long time since I’ve really been able to enjoy gardening. Most of the six apartments I’ve lived in over the past ten years really couldn’t accommodate my gardening habit…or I was unable to afford my gardening habit. But this current apartment has the space and the water and the privacy for me to create a little container garden leading up to my front door and it’s bringing me such joy!
Containers are so nice because there’s no digging, no weeds, something goes by and you just move it out of sight and pop something new in its spot! I love watering and snipping the dead blooms off and looking for new ones. It’s relaxing and pretty!
Reading
Obviously you don’t have to wait for summer to read (!), but I do much more reading then because of days or evenings sitting on the beach, and longer daylight gives me more “light” hours on the sofa. I despise the overhead lighting in my living room, it’s so glaring, I just can’t. So I mostly only read when there’s daylight. Maybe someday I’ll have a floor lamp over there, but until then. I enjoy few things more than a quiet afternoon spent on the sofa with a good book.
Outdoor Dining
I LOVE eating outdoors. Like, an obsessive amount. Usually, I am the only one of my friends who really wants to sit outside when we go out to eat, so…I don’t get to enjoy it as much as I would like. BUT, COVID silver lining – there is ONLY outdoor dining right now, so I WIN!!! It’s just so appealing to me – kind of like a picnic, only a little more comfortable. And you get to people-watch while eating – two of my very favorite past-times!
So, those are my main Summer Loves! What are some of yours??

I love how you approached this topic. I wear dresses a lot in summer too, and I love to eat outdoors as well. That’s great that the one good thing about Covid is your friends have to eat outdoors with you. I love your garden!

I’m with you about eating outside too Bettye. Half the time it’s WAY too cold in the air conditioning anyways…haha.

I love to eat outdoors as well! especially during the summer as it has a different vibe to it. I usually say I’m going to change my summer wardrobe but I stick to the same uniform every year.
I love your blog because I have gotten to know other blogs from here. I love blogging because it more representative that social media.
Love that book lineup.

I am enjoying your garden as much as you I think! I just imagine you out there at your table reading a book and eating outside in the shade with a cool breeze! And I love to wear something that feels like a cloud but I haven’t found anything yet. Maybe PJ’s? I really don’t think I’ve found my cloud yet!

Love your take on this month’s theme. I wasn’t sure how I was gonna go when I announced it…
Your cloud dress is pretty and screams summer. I’m finally tackling my TBR Shelf and finished one book yesterday afternoon… The Nickel Boys. I didn’t like it. Or maybe it was just too heavy a read for right now.

Omg yes! It is like we read each other’s minds with these posts sometimes…lol! And I could not agree with you more about summer dressing being so much easier. Sometimes in the colder months it’s such a chore because there is just so much work involved in getting dressed. xo

Getting dressed is ALWAYS a chore. Ha. My mother was a nightgown-all-the-time person and that’s a tough model to leave behind cuz it’s so easy and comfy! And forget about winter. That’s just ridiculous. We shouldn’t have to leave our homes once it gets lower than 40 degrees.
