A short week cuz last week finished up on Monday.

TUESDAY

Good thing I wasn’t at work today cuz this is my usual parking spot

Tropical Storm Isiasi (I never get this right) caught us by surprise a bit. It was earlier than expected and never really lost strength as it moved north. Usually, we end up not getting much of anything from the storms and hurricanes that hit the south. Fortunately, I was working from home all day…which was fine til the power went out around 3pm. I still had juice in the laptop and all my work is on an external hard drive so I was able to keep working, but after that, I just vegged on the sofa, finished a book, had cheese and crackers for dinner, started another book, took a shower just before it was completely dark, then got in bed with book and cell phone flashlight. Finished book, went to sleep.

WEDNESDAY

Still no power or cell service this morning, but took all my electronics and chargers to work with me in case power still wasn’t on by the time I got home after work.

Lots of trees and power lines down and traffic lights out. Lots of detours to get to work.

Went out to dinner with friends in case still no power when I got home.

No power when I got home.

THURSDAY

Still no power but at least I have cell service again. I’m working in limbo land, here there and everywhere. Was I at the right place doing the right thing today? WHO KNOWS?

Bidding on online auctions on my cellphone by candlelight. Just like Abraham Lincoln.

My days are now: work, go home and read while there is daylight, get in bed once it’s too dark to read and play on cellphone where I’m allowed. Cell service a little spotty still. Can do some IG, some Tik-Tok, some NYT crossword puzzle. Go to sleep once my arm gets tired holding cell phone up in bed.

FRIDAY

Still no power and now no hot water. Have to get more candles and a new lighter wand thing (I’m sure those things have a real name). AND some of those stick-on-the-wall-with-adhesive-strip-tap-light things, especially for the closet. That’s dark on the best of days. I need to empty out the fridge tonight before things start smelling bad. Very annoying as I just went to the market Monday and filled up the freezer.

This is not a fun blogpost.

SATURDAY

POWER!!!

Very thrilling. The breaker blew in the living room (ac) so there was no power there til later in the afternoon, and there’s still no internet, but HOT SHOWER! FAN! STAYING UP PAST 8:30!

I have to say, I’m pretty pleased with myself. I feel like a year or two ago I would have been climbing the walls and so agitated at no electricity and internet. But I was just sorta like, “okay, whatev.”

SUNDAY

Road trip to Cos Cob, Connecticut to pick up a few auction items I won the other night. It’s just about an hour away and we stopped off for brunch and some pics in a nearby park before picking up my winnings from a private home.

CT not at the same DANGER! DANGER! level as NY as far as COVID. Don’t know if that’s cuz it was never as bad there as it got in NY or because they’re like at least a month ahead of us in reopening and by this point they’re all like, “yeah yeah coronavirus, whatever.”

OH, internet returned right before bed last night, so yay. Life can return to normal. Ish.

And now I’m trying to finish up some blogging work and if I get it done in time I will let myself go sit at the park by the water in the shade with a book and a cold drink. And pretend to read while I people watch.

I’m in a weird reading place right now. I started two different books this week that right away I was like meh, even though they’ve had lots of accolades. But I just don’t have it in me right now to power through something that is not grabbing me from Page 1 (how long do you give a book or movie before you decide it is Not For You and you bail?). So I’m going to start another Jonathan Tropper book that arrived this week…

WHAT I’M READING

Everything Changes by Jonathan Tropper. Don’t you just love it when a book grabs you right from Sentence One? It’s like Love at First Sight. This grabbed me and never let go. It was enjoyable, entertaining, a little quirky. A quick read (I read it the day we lost power – started on the sofa and once window light had faded I moved to the bed with my cell phone tucked under my chin, with “flashlight” lighting the pages). And really surprising for me, a book by a male author where the main characters were men…I usually have a block about that, but not here. Two thumbs up, 4.5/5

The Heart of a Woman by Maya Angelou. The 4th in her series of autobiographical books. Again, an amazing life. She walks through every door presented to her, she meets amazing people, gets involved in so many interesting exploits. In this one she begins to get more political, and moves out of the US with her high-school age son. If it was anyone else I may think there were some tall tales being told in there but…I believe her. What a life! 3.5/5.

No power or internet so no tv/movies this week.

And the good news (well, for me) is I did get enough work done tonight and rewarded myself with a park sit and it was lovely – dry, breezy, and cool.

And that’s it for yet another weird week. Definitely low key with no power all week. Supposed to get hot again this week – happy to have ac and electricity!

xoxo
