The Simplicity of Summer Dressing: For Better or Worse
Summer dressing is pretty simple. In the case of a dress, it can easily be one and done. If you’re someone who is cold even in summer or who spends time in highly air-conditioned spaces, there might be a cardigan. If you’re a belter, there’s that. But for myself, who is neither, dresses are a pretty simple affair.
And that’s what I love about them.
And what I hate about them. I now have about 6 dresses I wear A LOT all summer long. Solo. No accessories, over-layers, add-ons. Just. A. Dress. By mid-summer it can be Pretty Boring. Prettty pretty pretty boring.
So imagine my delight when I finally broke out the ironing board and spruced this Tencel swing dress up…And Got To Wear Something Different!!!
But for the newness (old newness, the dress is three years old, I just haven’t worn it in a long time cuz I haven’t had the ironing board AND the dress out at the same time in For. Ever.) of it…still a little dull. Amiright?? I tried to break out some jewelry – I don’t wear jewelry much in summer cuz HOT – but I was intent on jazzing things up a bit. Couldn’t find much jewelry. It’s quite possibly still in some sort of packing container from my trip to California. In February. Corona-lockdown happened just about a month after that, and I certainly wasn’t jewelrying during work from home, and then it was hot. So yeah. Will check my suitcase.
But I did find these earrings. You may remember they were a Christmas present to myself last year…and the very first time I wore them, the loose latch came undone on one and fell off. Somewhere. And I ended up buying an additional solo earring. But again, C-Lockdown…I haven’t touched them all this time. They’ve been in the little velvetty bag they came in, in a drawer. And they’re tarnished! I haven’t tried cleaning them, I had to get the shoot done…but man! This apartment is Really Damp, is that why? I thought one of this brand’s claim to fame was their non-tarnishing gold. I’ll ask Google what to do and let you know next week how I make out.
While I’m rambling can I just tell you that I’m in a pretty dark place right now. I feel like most facets of my life are Not Going Well (to say the least), and some are (far) more disturbing slash anxiety-provoking than others. It’s seeping in everywhere and…it’s not good. And not every situation can just be changed. Sometimes, as bad as a situation is, it’s still the best option at the time and you just gotta live through it.
So I might take a little time off from the blog towards the end of August. That’s hard for me, because I so enjoy doing the blog…but it’s one of the few things I have real ownership of and can let go of for a bit…so I can spend some time reading and relaxing and maybe even sitting on the beach. So if I go MIA in the next couple weeks, no worries, I’m just getting a little R&R.

It is ok to be having issues, I think we all are right now. None of us is familiar with this world we must live in right now and it is taking a toll. Hang in there and know that you will be missed!

I’m sad to hear that life is closing in on you. So many unsolveable problems and unexpected happenings in the world at large, never mind the personal obstacles and issues that are so seemingly insurmountable because of the bigger unsolveable problems. There is truly so little that we can control. But we can iron a colorful dress and take out our best earrings and polish them up. Even if it only helps a little, the baby steps take us somewhere and eventually, hopefully, to a better place. Even better is to sit down, take a break and let the world go by and our head clear. I will miss you if you take a break, but I’ll be happy to think of you sitting in a favorite place, taking deep breaths and allowing all the worries to settle. xo karen

What a lovely message, Karen, thank you ❤️ Im aiming for some down time this weekend, not my usual GET AS MUCH DONE AS POSSIBLE SO I DON’T HAVE SO MUCH TO DO DURING THE WEEK AFTER WORK, but it sort of never really works out that way.

I can relate, Bettye. Our worlds have been turned upside down, and while I try to be grateful for what remains, there’s this just under the surface unshakeable feeling of loss and maybe a little fear of what else could happen… what else 2020??? I also decided to take some days off to get some R&R at the end of August and get off this WFH treadmill. A change in day-to-day activities and a maybe a change of scenery will do us good… and the beach is always therapeutic 🙂
