The Best Laid Plans/Dipping a Toe into Fall Dressing
I feel like surely I already have a post titled “The Best Laid Plans.” If not three.
I’d been thinking about this outfit for awhile. In theory, I love the combination of leopard, blue chambray, and olive green. But it wasn’t all quite working out for me. I should have buttoned the chambray shirt up top so it wasn’t so open. And the “waist” tie rode up as I drove to the shoot location (and that’s a story in itself – not an interesting one, but let’s just say this wasn’t exactly what I’d planned) and being out in the world without a mirror and feeling self-conscious as people looked on, I didn’t take the time to adjust it based on the pictures. And it was windy. Quite windy! And the cell phone/remote dealy was not being my friend and UGH. The whole thing just felt like a fail. But I tried to make the best of it and get what I could get.
But in THEORY it’s a great outfit!
I do love this time of year when it’s just cool enough to wear some light layers up top…but you can still get away with open shoes. The worst part of cold weather, for me, is the difficult footwear. Socks, tights, laces, boots. None of those are my friend. So I’ll go in slides and little flats as long as I can.
This year is unusual (newsflash) in that normally I would still be wearing the same things I wore in August and July, during the heat of the summer. But it has cooled off drastically, and for once I’m actually able to hitch a ride on the “It’s Fall, Y’all” wagon and start dressing in some light layers and thin knits. What’s it like where you are?
For once I’m really looking forward to fall dressing, as far as having different items to wear, and being able to layer pieces for more diverse looks. I’ve even ordered a couple things off my fall shopping list (any interest in seeing this?) to mix in with my fall wardrobe from past years. I might even be able to switch over my closet (you know, switch things from one rod to another) before Thanksgiving for once!
Have you swapped your closet over yet? Do you have a shopping list for fall items?

I have those outfits for sure Bettye. It looks fabulous in my mind, and even hanging all together, but it needs tweaks when I put it on. This outfit is better than I think you give credit!! I LOVE it!!

In hindsight, I think in part I’m blaming the outfit for the unsuccessful, windy, “witnessed” shoot!

Don’t we all have those Best-Laid-Plans?! Fall is my favorite season for which to dress, but we normally don’t see real fall weather until around Thanksgiving, so I swap out my wardrobe anyway. I go for summer weight items in darker more seasonal colors. Love the leopard dress and jacket! I’m a huge denim/chambray fan and can see how that struggle happened… Sometimes an outfit seems perfect in our heads, but the reality just doesn’t quite work out as expected. It happens to all of us. I’d love to tweak this outfit for you!

Hi Liz! Thanks for stopping by! Please, tweak away!!!

I like this outfit. I’m seriously going to do a dupe because I think I have similar pieces and this looks like something I’d wear. There’s pattern and color and it gives me a chance to wear my jacket that’s been unworn in my closet since I bought it.
It’s cool here too. In the mornings. Like I went to walk Bleu this morning and actually shivered. But the afternoons are hot. So very Louisiana.

Please share it when you wear it!
