Making a Favorite Summer Dress Work for Fall
IT’S FALL Y’ALL! Sorry, I hadda do it.
I don’t have a favorite season. I love the start of every season; when the weather changes and you get some relief from whatever has been going on for the past three months. New activities begin, your wardrobe changes, everything seems fresh and new.
I love summer. Not that I summered much this year, but usually there’s beaching and vacationing and long daylight hours for reading and sunset-watching. Dressing is so so easy. Almost every outfit is one and done (for me, anyway).
But it’s hot. And humid. And sticky. And buggy. And by the first day of fall, I’m ready to start putting cardigans or light jackets over my favorite summer dresses. At least for the first part of the season.
This is the Osei Duro dress I treated myself to this summer. And even though I never had it altered I LOVE it and have worn it a lot. I’m not ready to give it up so soon. But I can just throw a cozy cardigan over top and call it a day! When it gets even cooler I might put a super-thin turtleneck underneath and a cardigan over top. If I could find plus size cream tights (oh to dream the impossible dream) I could even see it with tights and clogs.
At a certain point, it will be just Too Cold For Rayon (and what a sad sad day that will be), but until that day I’ll just keep layering things over and under this dreamy summer dress to make it work for fall.
What are your favorite parts of fall? I love sleeping in the cooler weather…the changing colors of the foliage…the smell of fireplace smoke…curling up on the sofa under a blanket and a cat, with a book. And while I bemoan the shortening of the days, I secretly like it because that’s the time of year I can hibernate at home.
What summer item are you not ready to give up for the cool weather??

Ha ha Beach Blanket Brunch, yes!
Lovely
The cooler weather, the changing leaves, all the colors, the warmer clothes, and spending time with the family around the upcoming holidays are my favorite part of Autumn. Lovely outfit and great pictures!

I miss the Fall. Now that I’m in Florida I have to wait till January to get a little bit of relief from the heat. The temperatures are still mid to upper-80’s here. Yuck. As for plus size tights, have you ever checked out sockdreams.com? They’ve got EVERYTHING from toe covers to tights in all sizes.
bettyewp
Oh, I’ve never heard of sockdreams (that I recall). I will definitely check them out, thanks!
And oh that Florida heat. I have friends moving there after retirement and they’re like YOU COME, TOO but I just don’t think I can bear that endless heat!

Thanks, Trudy. I did check out WeLoveColors last year and they do have a cream tight but it’s a very yellow-y cream. I even asked them to send me another picture of the color, and it just…it’s not right. Last year I ended up buying a pair of white tights from SnagTights and two bottles of Rit dye, which, when combined, are supposed to make a nice cream. I REALLY want more of a ribbed tight (something with a little more thickness and texture) in a cream color but HA HA HA HA.
Have you ever purchased from WeLoveColors?

I love that dress on you – and it looks great with that cardigan. I wouldn’t think of having it altered – it looks great just the way it is.
Fall is my favorite season and it seems to have arrived a bit early in the south this year. Love the fall leaves and all their gorgeous colors. Since I’ve turned into a hermit I’ve just worn ‘stay at home stuff’ so my summer clothes have barely been touched and they’ll into hiding soon to be replaced by those fall/winter ones.

It looks a little more fitted with the sweater over it, holding it in a bit. But on its own it’s a LOT of fabric, the length is a little too long and the waist-seam a little low. It’s one of those I want pulled up at the shoulder seam by a couple inches, and that would lift everything to where it should be on my body. If I buy another of this same style dress from Osei-Duro next year I’ll size down one.
I’m not QUITE ready for winter hibernation, but it’s not far off.

I LOVE fall and always have.
I also love this fabulous green dress, but their website is so extremely hard to navigate that I have been unable to order it yet. Just sent them an Email…we’ll see if I hear back or not.
At any rate, thanks so much for turning me onto this dress! I’ll let you know what happens.

It *is* a little strangely organized (ie it’s really not well organized). I feel like every time I go, things are in different places. So yeah, definitely a little hard to navigate. Hope you managed to get the dress you wanted! There’s like 5 other dresses I already want but…it will have to wait til next year.

Thanks for commiserating with me, Bettye. They still haven’t replied and something tells me they never will!
