Workday Wardrobe ~ Oct 19-23
FIRST, I want to introduce you to a new friend…this is Liz. She has a blog called Closet Play Image, and in addition to her penchant for sharing wardrobe inspiration, she does a feature called Copycat Style. And guess who she copycatted this month?! Me! Hee hee! She has so much goodness on her blog, I hope you’ll take a look!
MONDAY
Needed an outfit that could from office day to city night. Was a mild evening but I knew we’d be on a rooftop after dark and that would be cooler and windier. This jacket is super thin and lightweight but is filled with Primaloft which is a warm, vegan fill. It’s great because it doesn’t make coats get too big and puffy. I’m big and puffy enough all on my own. And the comfy walking shoes cuz city.
- BP Cream Crewneck Easy Ribbed Sweater, size 3x
- Bronze Madewell jacket, 2x. Sold out. Comparable here and here.
- Black Charlotte Russe Refuge Skinny Jeans
- Aerosoles Leopard Betunia Flat
TUESDAY
Work from home day. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think I’m kind of over this beloved Ava&Viv turtleneck. I still love the fit, the collar, and the color…but the super-long handkerchief hem just screams early 2010s to me (ha ha).
If I didn’t think my sewing machine would try to murder me in my sleep, I might actually try to cut the long bits off so it was all one length…or maybe slightly longer in back. With side slits! Cuz I do love it, but I don’t really like wearing it out anymore. Especially with a jacket or coat cuz those side pieces dangle out longer than anything I could wear over top and it’s just weird.
Top: Oh So Very Old Target Ava&Viv turtleneck, size 3x. No longer available.
Jeans: White Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 22w short.
Shoes: Black Aerosoles Flats (same as the leopard ones)
WEDNESDAY
This gets two thumbs up from me. I think I’m just in a white buttondown + cardigan phase right now and I love the combo every time. I can work in this, I could play in this. I could go on a date in this (date? did she say date? is there a date? no. there’s no date. but there COULD be).
Blouse: White Loft Plus Buttondown, 22/24. This shirt is so so good. It’s a heavy viscose (rayon) so has nice drape and just feels good.
Cardigan: Grey Old Navy Longline Cardigan, size 2x. Exact sweater no longer available, but there’s a darker grey Old Navy cardigan here that’s just like my new brown one that I’m loving. Speaking of which, I think I’d like the brown cardigan with the navy pants.
Pants: J Crew Cameron Slim Cropped Slack in 4-Season Navy Stretch, size 24
Shoes: Black Aerosoles Flats (same as the leopard ones)
THURSDAY
Worked from home and actually wore leggings and a tee all day so I could jump rope at lunch (?!?) but changed to go to the market for light bulbs. Are 40w bulbs not a thing anymore? 25 is too dim, 60 is so bright!
I’m feeling an oversized 90s grunge phase coming on. I do love a Henley. And a waffle knit. It’s like I’ve died and gone to shirt heaven.
Top: Belk Plus Size Henley Waffle Top, size 2x.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, Scottsdale wash, size 22w short.
Sneakers: Antique Adidas Cloudfoam
FRIDAY
This is my “I was gonna wear a dress today but didn’t get up in time to wash my hair and I wasn’t gonna waste a pretty dress on greasy hair” outfit of the day. The highlight of which is the “gotta go to the laundromat after work” bra, ha ha. Ugh. It’s over 10 years old and useless. Butwhatareyougonnado? Anyway, got this mustardy striped tee in my recent Old Navy haul.
Ha ha, wrote that ^ this morning. Went to the laundromat after work (ugh), then stopped for a slice of pizza on the way home. Got home, lugged in laundry and was so excited for pizza I got changed into my nightgown before I remembered I needed an OOTD. Guh. That’s why these pictures 🙁
Top: Old Navy EveryWear Striped Slub-Knit Plus-Size Long-Sleeve Tee, size 3x. Sold out.
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda Jeans, Scottsdale wash, size 22w short.
Sneakers: Those Adidas
So yay, it’s Friday (yay) and I’m just finishing up here at 10:43 and NOW I can move to the sofa and watch the last few episodes of this week’s kdrama. I made it!
Anyone got a challenge for me for next week?

Challenge? Copycat someone, maybe, if you feel like it. No pressure, lol.
Michelle
Well, maybe you just assigned yourself your own challenge – “oversized 90’s grunge” sounds good to me.
I hate it when something I love suddenly feels dated. I’ve got a few tops with flared/tiered bell sleeves that are starting to feel like they are out of style. They go with a lot, so I’d have to find replacements before letting them go.

You nailed my frustration. I like blazers with jeans but don’t want to look stuck in the 70’s. Pants really baffle me. Bootcut seems to wide and anything that tapers does me no favors. I like bell sleeves, etc. Updating the comfort of the 90’s sounds good… bringing the best into THIS decade !!

Yep. Finding the perfect Fit:Current Style ratio is the trick that’s so unattainable. If you have one of those magical bodies that carries clothes the way they were meant to be worn, I don’t think you have this issue. But for the rest of us mere mortals we need to walk the fine line between “style” and “fit.” Like, I LOVE a minimal style. And I could have all those exact pieces I see on others. But minimal style is all about clean straight lines…and *I* am not a clean straight line! I’m balls and curves. So those same pieces on me do not give off a “minimal aesthetic.” So I need to keep experimenting to find the thing that brings me closest…AND…loosen my expectations of how close I am ever going to look a certain way.
I’m currently going through a whole “expectation” thing right now. As applies to style, relationships, bodies, LIFE. I should try and get it all down “on paper.”

I don’t know if I can do a whole workweek of that yet. But I’ve added a couple things to my shopping list and I’m starting to be able to VISUALIZE an oversized 90s grunge wardrobe. But finding OVERSIZED plus sized things is BRUTAL. Most things I’m already IN the biggest size and it’s just about fitting. OVERSIZED?? It’s like plus-sized maternity. HA HA HA HA what a joke THAT was. “Just go up a size in your regular clothes.” “I’m already WEARING the largest size and it’s snug…and now I gotta fit a BABY in there, too??”! Glad THOSE days are over!

Don’t you love Liz’s site. She has a wonderful post about why you shouldn’t wear black!!

NO BLACK?? She clearly has never spent time in NY. Black IS the NY wardrobe color. I was a longtime holdout and even I have found myself being more drawn to black. I’ll have to find that post and see what she has to say.

Actually, I have spent LOTS of time in NYC! Every summer growing up, and I visit as often as I can. (Thank goodness for friends and family in NJ and the train!) And yes, black is the NYC default color. I used to live in black, but it’s not so much my friend any longer… Too dark and draining! Some people look awesome in black. I’m hoping I do again when my hair heads to white, but for now I’ll give it a miss.

I go back and forth on the handkerchief hems. I love them but then I’m like is it still in style? Then I silently scream I don’t care. They hide stuff and I feel pretty.

Thank you so much for the shout out, Bettye! Now I’m seeing some more outfits to copycat… That turtleneck with the asymmetrical hem rocks!

That’s been a favorite for a long long time!
