I’ve been using L’Oréal Age Perfect Rosy Tone Face Moisturizer for about six weeks. I was sent it from Influenster but this is an honest review of the product.

The packaging claims to “Renew and Revive a Blushed Rosy Tone From Within. Skin is hydrated and has a healthy blush. Instantly revive skin’s rosy tone.”

Anyone who reads FashionSchlub regularly knows I’m always on the hunt for The Perfect Face Moisturizer. But I only try a couple products a year since it can be very costly to try a lot of products! When did things get so expensive?? Ugh.

Anyway, this came at a perfect time as I had recently run out of my Curology moisturizer (see my Curology product review here) and was back to using Trader Joe’s Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturize, which is fine, and very economical, but while it felt nice, I didn’t really think it was actually doing anything for my skin. Not that I’m looking for miracles. My skin is 60 years old, I don’t expect it to look like it belongs to a 16-year-old.

I don’t even mind most of my wrinkles…cuz really, so far, they’re mostly “laugh lines,” and I like a reminder that I have laughed and smiled a lot. I don’t feel like I have, so a reminder staring back at me in the mirror every day is not a bad thing.

My first reaction when I open the box was “oh. it’s in a jar. it’s not going to be as “watery” as I like. And I was right. It’s not. It’s like a thick, sort of dry-ish feeling cream.

My next reaction was more positive. When I took off the lid, I got the scent of the product…and I almost feel like I have a long-ago personal connection with that scent, but I can’t place it. Something on my grandmother’s dressing table?? I don’t know. But the smell is like…someone has loved me for a long time.

There is also a fragrance-free option if you don’t want to smell like my grandmother.

The color is very pretty…muted rosy pink with just the sheerest hint of glimmer.

You have to sort of scoop into it with your fingers, and I am not a fan. It gets under my fingernails, and that’s annoying.

It was not nearly as pleasing to put on my face as my more watery moisturizers. It doesn’t spread easily, you have to push it around a lot and it doesn’t feel like it is “soaking into the skin.” Which, I don’t know if that’s really a real thing, but my favorite moisturizers feel like they do, and perception is reality. So. This did not give that feel, which was a disappointment. Overall, application is not very satisfying.

BUT, it does its job of moisturizing my face. I’ve never needed a second application later on, like I sometimes do with my watery moisturizers.

AND, I like the way it LOOKS on my face. The faded rose gives just the sheerest bit of tinted coverage…and the little bit of shimmer glimmer, whatever it is, I think adds reflection on the skin and makes me look just a little glowy.

I don’t honestly know if you can tell the difference in the photos between without moisturizer and with moisturizer but here’s a before and after.

When I’m done applying I have to wash my hands again cuz it’s just sort of sitting there.

Oh, I wouldn’t use it as a night-time moisturizer cuz I think the glowy pink might come off on the pillowcase.

So, do I give it a positive or a negative review? You’ve just read all my “this is good but this is bad” comments above, but overall I’ll continue to use it til I find something better. It costs $25 at Ulta, which is more than I typically spend but is not outrageous. I’m maybe a third of the way into the jar, maybe I’ll get another 12 weeks out of it, for a total of just over 4 months.

PLUS, there’s a smile inside the lid!
