Pretty In…oh, I just can’t do it
Some colors, like people, drift in and out of your life over time. Pink is one of those colors for me.
Do you have colors you’ve liked at certain times in your life, that you’ve wanted nothing to do with at others?
I remember in my 20s specifically, really loving the color and having a few favorite pink clothing items. One of my very favorites was a men’s pink broadcloth buttondown that I wore out over jeans (some things never change), or under a dark grey angora crewneck sweater. I was obsessed with that combination.
What worked for me was the “sweetness” of the pink being offset by the darker, more masculine grey in the “feminine” fabric. Plus, there was only a little pink showing at the collar and cuffs.
After that, I think I went for a long time without wearing pink. Red comes and goes in my wardrobe as well. As does blue.
Funny.
I have very little pink now…nor have I for quite some time. And when I do it’s usually “cut” with something, like a print or a clashing color (I love a good pink and red combo).
But I have been interested in some stronger pinks recently – fuchsia and like a deep Pepto-Bismol pink (that’s a Crayola color, right?). I’m envisioning them combined with black, to give a little “edge” to the girly sweetness.
I feel like I spend way too much time thinking about color combinations, ha ha. Me and Claude.

You do look pretty in pink! Your navy and white combo is very nice. I think it’s a navy blazer but I also like pink and black. I wonder about burgundy and pink….hmmm…. I like when you add a touch of color and if Jodie reads this she won’t object, lol. Thanks for the inspiration today!

I always have Jodie in my head with things like this, ha ha. But I stand behind my I Don’t HAVE to Like Wearing Big Color (or even small color). We don’t have to all like and wear the same things π

I love the new look of your website! So professional looking! Sorry if you’ve had it changed for awhile, I got a lot going on here so I’m not able to visit my favorite bloggers.
bettyewp
Thanks, Julia. It just changed like 10 days ago. I’m still getting used to it, myself!
I hear ya on the blog visits. I keep saying to just event get to one a day…at least that’s SOMETHING!
Really, I just need everyone to move to TikTok. It would be so much easier for me if everyone could be in one place and really, that’s not too much to ask, is it?
PS – your van story is MADE for TikTok. Just saying.

I like the navy blazer with the pink scarf combo. Tres chic!

Thanks. Yeah, I definitely prefer pink in combination with a darker or more subdued color: navy, brown (yes!), taupe, grey. I’ve been THINKING about pink and black recently but it might be too high contrast for me.
I know, I’m a color weirdo. Colors, collars/necklines, and sleeves. My clothing obsessions π

Love that Claude Money quote (my first time to learn of it!) I also like the way you shared the quote at the very end of your piece. It was unexpected and delightful!

Thank you for your kind words, Charlene.
I do love a good quote. I used to collect them voraciously, had little scraps or paper and post-its stuck all over. I’ve tried to cool it with that a bit. I do still save ones I like on a Pinterest board called “Words to Live By” -> https://www.pinterest.com/fashionschlub/words-to-live-by/

You know my theory. Part of it is how we feel in the happy department.
Me? I’m the opposite of you. I would never wear pink growing up or even as a dentist…it wasn’t serious enough. Too girly.
Yet now? Now I’m over that silliness and I have this thing with color!!
Xoxo

Yeah, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this -> “You know my theory. Part of it is how we feel in the happy department.” I don’t know WHAT exactly color/color-combination preference has to deal with, but…for me anyway, I see no correlation between happy times/sad times and my color preferences. And I know several people who wear All Black All the Time (it’s a NY thing) and I would certainly not say they are unhappy people.
I do feel like I could do an entire thesis on color preference, it’s that interesting to me.
I will say this, I feel my EYESIGHT might have something to do with my low-contrast preference. Bright, sunny days are actually sort of unpleasant to me cuz that brightness hurts my eyes. So I avoid being out in the bright sun. I keep my home on the dimmer side because that is just more comfortable to my eyes. Y’all have heard me say I only read during the day by natural light. I HATE turning on the bright overhead lighting to read, so…night reading is pretty much not a thing for me (there’s a separate comfort/position issue re reading in bed). All of that could be part of my preference for the greyed-down, low saturation colors and low contrast color combinations I prefer.
Uh-oh, thesising has started. Maybe this will have to be a blog post π
You’ve mentioned your dentist wardrobe several times…and it’s funny I have never noticed what my dentist is wearing. Don’t they wear like a “dentist shirt”? Ha. Like scrubs but…more tailored looking, somehow?

Iβm like you, I love a pink color clash: pink and red, pink and yellow, pink and orange. But I donβt wear a lot of pink. I like your idea of masculine and feminine pieces.

Oh, I’m just fulla theories π
Iris
There’s not a lot of pink in my wardrobe either – no idea why. There just isn’t. I think maybe more in the warm months (if they ever get here again). I guess I need to work on the pink.
