My last week of work from home + some vacation days + second corona vaccine. Hopes are high that there will be something of actual interest to share this week. Fingers crossed.

So Fashion Schlub is a Fitness Blog Now

Today was The Big Reveal to see if my new training technique had paid off. Instead of five sets of ten, I was going to jump as long as I could. I had high hopes.

36. Guh. Still not breaking my record of 39. BUT. The 36 felt better than it did before.

So the NEW regime is to jump to (at least) 50 every day, no matter how many stops and starts it takes. I have to say, once I hit 40, 41, it’s all I can do to just not fall flat on my face. It ain’t pretty.

TUESDAY

I don’t think Tuesday was actually a thing.

WEDNESDAY

Headed to Vaccine Land

Had my second covid vaccine today. Didn’t occur to me til I was actually sitting in the car line that there was DIFFERENT paperwork for the second shot. Story of my life: I Wasn’t Aware. Ha. Anyway, turns out all they asked for was my license, so…it all worked out.

Shot was fine…sat in my car for the 15-minutes waiting to be dismissed by The Guy like Last Time. So I sat and sat, engrossed in TikTok (#shocker), laughing til tears were streaming down my face. Oblivious to the cars to the right and left of me. Finally realized it was well past the time scribbled on my windshield and I looked around for Dismissal Guy…caught eye of woman in car to my right…rolled down (#archaicexpressionskidsthesedaysdontunderstand) the passenger side window to ask if we just leave without being dismissed (#alwaysassumingeveryoneelseknowsmorethanido) and before I can ask she goes, “you’re really having fun over there!” Ha ha, yes.

Anyway, nope, don’t wait for anyone, just go. Felt fine, so just left. About 5 minutes out on the parkway got so lightheaded…ooh…i feel like i’m gonna pass out…am i gonna pass out?  i think i’m gonna pass out…but there was not a good pullover pass-out spot right there so I went a couple more minutes and it worked its way down to “normal” light-headedness (like when I eat lovely lovely carbs in the morning instead of protein) so I just focused on keeping my two hands on the wheel, no bopping around, no steering wheel drumming, and was like “just keep two hands on the wheel and steer. just keep steering. If I can keep steering I can keep driving.” And if at any time I was unable to steer I would pullover. But it all eventually passed and I was fine the rest of the day.

Still, I allowed myself a sofa night, didn’t even turn the computer on, woohoo. Watched 6 episodes of my current kdrama til I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

The End.

THURSDAY

The Other Clothes Rack + Match Made in Heaven?

Vacation Day #1

Hadn’t planned anything for the day cuz I wasn’t sure how I would feel after the vaccine, so was a little floaty. But feel perfectly fine.

I should make a to-do list.

Meh.

I should shower and do some pictures.

Meh.

I have to go to the bank for rent money and run some errands while I’m out.

Stomps foot. Figuratively.

FRIDAY

Vacation Day #2

Met a few others at work to throw a little surprise birthday lunch for one of the girls from my office that is leaving.

SATURDAY

That time I found giant Maneki-Neko. Bushwick, Brooklyn 2014

FORTY-THREE JUMPS! If I had anything left to jump for joy, I would 🙂 I literally had to just STOP at that point, it’s not like I missed the skip…but if I didn’t stop I felt like my legs were just going to buckle. And I started again and got myself from 44-50. Just so happy to have finally passed the 39 jump record.

Met a friend for coffee in the afternoon. There’s still no indoor seating at most coffee shops cuz they’re generally small spaces…so we grabbed coffee and goodies and sat at a nearby park. We always have folding chairs in our cars for just this reason.

There was a backyard party going on nearby with loud music…I was happy to hear sounds of life like that.

SUNDAY

That time I knocked a parked motorcycle over with my car in Brooklyn then had Easter dinner at my ex’s house. Smithtown, NY 2011

Stressed about going back to work tomorrow. For five days. In a ROW.

OH THE INHUMANITY.

WHAT I’M WATCHING

You Quiz on the Block – BTS Special. The trailer is a little unfortunate, ha ha.

After many years of the group not appearing on Korean game or variety shows…recently they have been guests on several shows. It’s so much nicer to watch them speaking in their native language than witnessing the slight awkwardness of them being interviewed on American television. While they are all getting more fluent in English. Kim Namjoon still has to do a lot of translating for the others members and that doesn’t always go smoothly…plus, it just seems like some interviews done here stay at a very low (read: uninteresting) level because of the language differences.

A “game/interview” show, You Quiz on the Block, that was released last week), seemed much more authentic and the BTS members really shared parts of themselves they have not spoken about publically before. For example, how distressing this life is at times as they never expected to go this far or for this long. And some of them didn’t want to be dancers on stage or really in the public eye at all, but…sometimes you just go where life takes you, especially when you’re part of a team.

They are all eloquent and some very philosophical, and they’re a pleasure to listen to.

I love so much of their music, but I actually prefer seeing them this way, as humans not just as performers.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

Had an “oh aren’t I clever” (ha ha) moment when I first heard a 30-second clip of a new BTS song, “Film Out.” It was lovely…but my feeling was…if a song could be cinematic, this was. It was sort of…dramatic and lovely and had a storytelling feel to it (even though the only lyrics at that point were la la la la la la). Come to find out in the following days that it’s actually a song for an upcoming Japanese movie called Signal. So it sort of IS cinematic. Go, me. Note: I first heard the clip without seeing the trailer (which IS very cinematic).

OH MY GOD A PODCAST

Two actually. I actually turned off the 24/7 music to listen to two podcasts:

Grown Ass Fandom: Introspective and entertaining talk about k-pop. This was her first show and I hope she does more – she’s very easy to listen to and well-informed.

Feeling Asian: A real discussion about the hosts’ feelings following the Atlanta tragedy. Most interesting was a point they shared about how Korean media shared a translation of what the shooter was shouting as he was shooting, which was, “I want to kill all the Asians!” This is something I have definitely NOT heard in any American media. Which saddens and infuriates me. It was a little hard to listen to…but I think it’s important to keep listening.

WHAT I’M READING

Nothing, but this cracked me up cuz…SAME.

And that’s all she wrote.
