Plus Size Outfit of the Day ~ April 17-23
Clothes mean nothing until someone lives in them. ~ Marc Jacobs.
Clothing has neither identity nor gender. We assign that.
SATURDAY
Off to a baby shower so in a fancy get-up. This dress feels better than the sister-wife one last week. And I’m gonna have to get over my mental hurdle about dresses cuz MOST of my summer wardrobe IS dresses. I can’t replace EVERYTHING.
Not crazy about these shoes with it. I’d wear white sneakers if I had the right white sneakers. My old skippy Keds are too grungy for a shower. I’m gonna have to step up that search cuz white sneaker season is fast upon us.
So…I’ll give it a 4/5.
Dress: Old Navy, 3x. 2019
Shoes: Kelly&Katie. 2019
Denim Jacket: White Mark, 3x. 2017
SUNDAY
I woke up wanting to wear this striped tee. But I wanted something else over it for running out to get breakfast (my big social outing of the day OH how small my life has become). I like the stripe on stripe. The wider horizontal stripe with the narrower vertical stripe. I think it works because they’re both coolish colors (the grey and the taupe)..,and the whites are almost the same…and the necklines play nicely with one another – they’re both sitting up pretty close to my neck.
I actually prefer this button-down worn unbuttoned over something else. It’s so long and that’s not as apparent or bothersome (to me) when it’s unbuttoned.
I’ll give this a 4.5/5 as a weekend look. The double “just too long sleeves” takes it down a notch for me.
Button-down: Old Navy, 3x. 2020
Striped Tee: Ava&Viv/Target, 3x. 2021
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons, black, 2020
MONDAY
Take 2 on the green blouse. Still just a little on the fence about it but more on the “okay. it’s okay” side than not. Either way, it lives with me now, so. Plus, it’s the only floral blouse I have…AND the only spring-ish green I have,,,and I wanted both those things. So while it doesn’t check ALL the boxes, it checks some.
The ON duster cardigan is still a favorite. It has a BIT of limited use cuz me with my weird rules for everything, doesn’t like it so much over straight leg jeans, but will happily wear it over skinnies or dresses.
How did I get such weird rules ingrained in me?
I think these are the last pair of skinny jeans I have. I know skinnies are considered a little passe at this point, but for plus size legs, they were a godsend and for now…I still happily wear them. I don’t know that I’ll buy anymore going forward, but…
Overall I’ll give this a 4.5. I think I’ll probably like the combo better with the black cardigan. That’s coming.
Green Button-down: Torrid, 3x. 2021
Duster Cardigan: Old Navy, 2x. 2017
Skinny jeans: Charlotte Russe Refuge jeans, 22 short. 2015
Black Flats: Aerosoles Betunia flats, 2020
TUESDAY
A take-it-easy day. A warm day. A “let’s not stress about clothing” day. Not that I STRESS, but I do (over)think about clothing. That’s not a complaint. I think it’s nice to have something I can CONTROL. It’s nice to spend time thinking about something I actually have control of.
At times, it feels like there’s so little I can control.
Anyway (let’s not get all philosophical today. it’s too nice out), this is my feel-good sweater. Light as a cloud cashmere. I can wear it even into warmer temps cuz it’s so light and fluffy. I did not layer today. That’s my sartorial nod to warmer weather.
Easy jeans, easy sneaks.
Easy day.
4.75/5. Little-too-long-sloppy-sleeves bump it down from a 5/5. That’s on me. Me and my short arms.
V-neck: Ellos.com, 3x. 2019
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons, navy, 2020
WEDNESDAY
Outfit of the Day: Greasy Hair Edition. Ha ha. This morning’s getting-ready was a big fail. It was SUPPOSED to be cool and rainy, so I had an outfit in mind. Then I awoke (late) to sunny and warm. My warm weather wardrobe is still limited so every springlike day is a challenge. I scrambled in and out of several outfits before hitting the YOU MUST LEAVE FOR WORK THIS INSTANT time, so…this was the last chair remaining when the music stopped.
I don’t DISLIKE it, it’s just a little casual for work. I can just about get away with it for now cuz we’re still not fully-staffed and have limited visitors to the building.
Anyway, if I had a non-dingy white tee that probably would have been the move here, but…it’s no longer acceptable for being so on display. So I went with the cream ribbed fine knit I got from Nordstrom’s Trunk Club last year. If I wasn’t in the cool office it might be too much, but it’s fine for now.
I also think of this striped button-down as on the casual side, I’m not exactly sure why. The “non-corporate” color? The soft, “non-crisp” fabric? The oversized “boyfriend” fit? Probably all of the above. But I might be the only one who thinks that. But I’m the only one that matters, so – HA.
Jeans, check. Converse, check. Unwashed hair, check check. Ha. I DID stick my head under the bathroom faucet and washed and dried just my bangs so it’s PASSABLE but it ain’t pretty.
I’m going with 3.75/5 as a work outfit. On the weekend and with clean hair it would get a higher rating.
Cream Crewneck: BP/Nordstrom, 3x. 2020
Yellowy Stripe Buttondown: Madewell, 3x. 2020
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons, navy, 2020
THURSDAY
AHHHH. If last week’s Sister Wife dress was NOT me, then this outfit IS me. Totally. Navy and black (low contrast), comfy oversized cashmere v-neck over white tee, perfect black jeans, navy converse. I feel as close to a “cool girl” in a look like this as I’m gonna get.
I’m going out on a limb and giving this a 5/5.
Navy V-Neck Pullover: J Crew, 3x. 2021
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2017
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons, navy, 2020
FRIDAY
Annnnd…FRIDAY. Made it 🙂 Was just chilly enough that I could get one more wearing of the grey cardigan in…and a little layering.
I’m always happy with this combination. 5/5.
Striped V-Neck Long-Sleeved Tee: Old Navy, 3x. 2019
White Tee: H&M, 3x. 2017
Grey Cardigan: Deane & White Woman, 2x. 2012 (maybe earlier)
Jeans: Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans, 20 short. 2021
Sneakers: Converse Shoreline Slip-Ons, black, 2020

Love all your looks but stripe on stripe and green blouse + duster are the winners for me. How can you wear converse? So cute, but they kill me.

I’m gonna have to do a whole treatise on Converse. I get this comment a lot. The thing is, I’m wearing Converse SHORELINES. They’re different than the Classic Chucks, that DO feel like walking on a concrete slab. The shorelines are lighter, more flexible, and with a little arch support. They also come up lower on the vamp, if that’s a thing for you (it is for me).

The green blouse + beige duster combination looks great to me. As for the skinny jeans…I’m all SKINNIES FOREVER. They are just so practical and make voluminous top-half outfits work.

“[skinnies] make voluminous top-half outfits work.” Yes. That’s a huge part of it.
I also just think they’re easier to fit for large, curvy bodies.
Iris
Love the first two outfits – the dress looks great on you. And, the green flowered blouse is definitely a good one.
