Inspired by: Lizzy Hadfield of Shot from the Street
Lizzy Hadfield hardly needs an introduction here, I’ve referred to her so many times over the years. Really, she’s the first one who modeled an androgynous style in a way that really struck a chord with me.
I’ve been following her on YouTube, her blog Shot from the Street, and Instagram for gosh…six years. I’ve watched her life change from year to year, as well as her style. Even within the general framework of “man-tailored” there has been an evolution over time. I mean, come on, who ISN’T dressing more casually after last year? But through it all, she has maintained a clean aesthetic that is so appealing.
I think of her style as “Approachable Cool Girl.” Always put-together, but in a casual way. Her outfits never look contrived but I feel every item is there for a well-considered reason.
She has a mostly neutral palette of black, grey, brown, navy, cream…with an occasional color surprise.
She is the undisputed Queen of the Blazer. Blazers had never really been on my radar…but after seeing her in them almost every season of the year, year after year…yup. And not just ANY blazer…but a LONGLINE blazer. She definitely introduced that style to me. I’m still looking for The One, but…it’s always in the back of my mind as a Holy Grail item.
One issue I have found with minimal and man-tailored styles, is that they’re very linear. Clean straight lines. But most plus-size bodies are CURVY. I am not made of straight lines…so even when wearing the same TYPE of clothing, the same look is not achieved. It took me several years of frustration to realize what the issue was. It’s a LITTLE less frustrating now that I understand. It doesn’t help me find The Right Things, but it does help me…rule more things out? We all know I love to Rule Things Out 🙂 Some see that as a negative. To me it just makes searches easier. Fewer mistakes are made when I know what NOT to buy. And everybody (every body) has to figure out what those things are for themselves.
And it’s not just her fashion style that has inspired me. Her creativity, work ethic, photography have all left an impression on me. She is constantly striving to broaden/improve her content for her many followers. She inspires me as a blogger.
Also, on a more personal note, she made a trip by herself to Japan a few years back (2019?) and her notes and photographs were positively dreamy…and just one more notch on my “I MUST get to Japan” bedpost.

Who do you most get style inspiration from??
Marian
I get most of my style inspiration from 6 style bloggers that I follow – you are one of them! I see how you curate and make choices. I see where you find inspiration – like I don’t think I would have ever thought of emulating the style of 20-something Korean guys. Even Lizzie Hadfield….I realized that if I had seen her on my own, I would have admired her taste but I would have immediately dismissed her because she’s so young and slim and I’m turning 60 and I don’t have that figure anymore. Style bloggers have a different lens and they are very precise about fit and color, which gave me permission to be that way too. I guess that was the long way of saying that I’ve been inspired by the process of the bloggers I follow, which allows me to develop my style.

Love this comment, Marian! So much, in fact, that I’m going to base an entire post on it. Lately inspiration is, uhm, oh god, INSPIRING ME. Ha ha.
Plus, I’m dying to know who the other five bloggers are!
