What I Bought: April

Still trying to fill out the spring wardrobe. In my mind’s eye I’m picturing lots of button-downs, both long and short-sleeved, in fun colors and prints. Unfortunately, what’s in MY mind’s eye is not the same as what’s in BRANDS mind’s eye(s). But I did get some things.

WHAT I KEPT

Torrid

DARK SLATE GREY WASHED RAYON BUTTON FRONT BLOUSE, 3x

This is a great blouse. It’s called “dark slate grey,” but I see it as “washed black.” The fit is nice, it feels like sueded silk, it’s a keeper.

MADISON – GREEN FLORAL GEORGETTE BUTTON FRONT BLOUSE, 3x

Was on the fence for a long time with this one. I’ve worn it twice since buying and I’m STILL sort of on the fence, but…til death do us part.

WHITE & PINK CRINKLE GAUZE EMBROIDERED BLOUSE, 3x

This says pink…but it’s red. Which is exactly what I’ve been looking for in my size for YEARS. It’s more of a summer top but I wasn’t going to pass on it and risk it being sold out.

BOBEAU BUTTER KNIT STRIPE TOP, 1X

I’ve been looking for a replacement stripe top. I was concerned about the 1x (that’s all that was left in stock) but it’s just slightly snug around the middle. I had a Nordstrom Rack credit and ended up getting it (with shipping) for .30. Yes, Thirty-cents. Win. And it is THE softest thing. It’s like the finest softest suede…if suede was stretchy and swingy. I’m gonna be making everyone touch me.

Oh life is good.

OKEY DOKEY YO GRAPHIC TEE

Hee hee. I have wanted fun graphic tees FOR YEARS but can just never find ones that resonate with me that are in my size! Ugh, I’m so sick of that. Anyway, “Okey Dokey Yo” is a Korean rap song that was featured in a kdrama True Beauty that I really really liked.

I loved the scene, love that actor, and I think the song is really fun and makes me laugh and happy when I hear it. SO, when I saw the okey dokey yo graphic tee in what should be my size (you know what’s coming) I was like YESSS!!! I got it and tried it on and was like NOOOOOOO. Boo. In theory, based on the measurements, it should fit. But different fabrics stretch differently and this is Quite Snug. Ugh. I did find a website recently that talked about ways to make too small tee shirts fit (I’ll do a post on that soon when I try some of the methods) and I just don’t have the heart to return it cuz I WANNNNTTTT ITTTT. It makes me happy 🙁

ANTHROPOLOGIE MAEVE THE CLARISSA BUTTONDOWN BLOUSE, 22

How fun is this shirt? It’s another Shoptagr success…I’ve liked it for a long time but it was pricey…so I waited and waited for a sale…but all the plus sizes were sold out before the price ever came down. Boo. BUT THEN. Shoptagr to the rescue. It alerted me when several came back in stock AND it was finally on sale!

ANTHROPOLOGIE PILCRO THE ROMY RELAXED BUTTONDOWN

Another Anthro/Shoptagr/Afterpay win! I wore this shirt this week, you’ll see it in Saturday’s Plus Size Outfit of the Day post. I love love it. Love the color, the print, the lightweight fabric, the drapiness…love it all. I can think of quite a few different ways to wear it with things I already have, such a win.

OSIE-DURO LAYER DRESS IN HEDERA, 2X

This was a splurge. Who am I kidding? This whole MONTH was a splurge! Let’s call it a Mother’s Day gift to myself 🙂

As soon as I saw this print and color combo I was like I. MUST. HAVE. THAT. DRESS. It’s coppery rust brown and pink. YUM.

It’s the same as the green and white polka dot dress I bought at the end of last summer, but I sized down this time. I’m still so in love with that dress that I thought…just one more. Even in my I Wanna Dress Like a Boy mindset, I know that come the real heat of summer, I’m gonna want to be in lightweight, air-circulating dresses.

This dress just SCREAMS Cocktails on the Beach. Can you hear it??

WHAT I RETURNED

MADISON – BLACK FLORAL GEORGETTE BLOUSE, 3x

Originally I liked this one better than the green one but the more I thought about what I would wear it with, it felt a little limited. And I didn’t LOVE love it. So it went back.

PINK TIE-DYE CHALLIS BUTTON DOWN SHIRT, 3x

This was cute in theory. But in actual wearing, the color was too close to my skin color and that looks weird…like I’m naked…but tie-dyed.

TAUPE WASHED RAYON BUTTON FRONT BLOUSE

This is the same as the washed black/slate grey blouse above but…not the same. The fit was considerably snugger…and it didn’t even feel the same. Buh-bye.

GREEN FLORAL GEORGETTE DOLMAN SLEEVE BLOUSE

Nope. I hadn’t noticed that zipper-front on the website. And the sleeves were an unflattering shape/length for my arms.

H&M DONALD DUCK TEE SHIRT, 3x

Cut me some slack. I was having A Moment. But it was a very weird fit.

Alright, I admit it. I was (again) influenced by Kim Taehyung.

H&M MEN’S TAUPE CARDIGAN WITH ZIP, XL

Took another stab at men’s wear. I’ve been looking for both black and taupe bomber jackets but as it’s getting warmer now when I saw this bomber-esque knit cardigan I thought, hmm. It was not awful. I mean, IT was nice. And I could have gotten away with the body part of it but the sleeves were nine yards long. My arms are NOT nine yards long. Hence, return. But it was actually a nice sweater/jacket. Maybe another time.

Timing is everything.

H&M BLUE LINEN SHIRT, 2X

Linen. French blue. Button-down. Oversized. So many good things. But it juuuusssstttt didn’t quite work on me. It was not pleasing. The body was okay but the shoulders were…for two women, not one. It’s a shame, it’s a really pretty blouse. I would like that shirt.

REVIEW

I definitely go more colorful in the summer…in some looser, freer styles. Cold Weather Dressing is my spirit animal…but Warm Weather Dressing is fun.

It was actually a pretty successful month for me. I actually kept more things than I returned. But…a little spendy. Will need to rein it in for May. I definitely need white canvas sneakers for summer, so there’s that hunt. And a couple tee/short sleeve shirts.

I did BUY one other thing (a dress for a wedding) but it hasn’t arrived yet so you’ll see that next month. Try to hold on til then.
