First, apologies for the upcoming cell phone pictures. It’s just a (much) faster process than using the nice camera and right now…being able to cut 10-15 minutes from one place and add it to another is…a help. I can (maybe. on a good day.) write two Korean sentences either in an assignment or in my journal in 10-15 minutes.

Maybe.

On a good day.

I’m SO struggling with building sentences beyond “It is an apple.” Ha ha. Even “the apple is red,” is like WHOA, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY?!? Apparently there are no adjectives (as we think of them in English) in Korean. There are action verbs and DESCRIPTIVE verbs – and that’s where “our” adjectives fall. Like, “to be red,” or “the act or state of being red.” That’s a verb not an adjective. AND GUESS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO WITH VERBS!? Conjugate them. There are like 40 “basic” conjugations…but then you have to multiply it by three(ish) to get all the conjugations into all the “honorific” (politeness) levels…you do the math. It’s a lot. And THEN…the sentence structure is that verbs always come at the end of the sentence. Well, “the apple is red” has two verbs: “is” and “to be red.” So NOW what do I do?? Gah!

Ha ha, it’s a lot. So if I can eke an extra sentence’s worth of time from my day…that’s good.

Thank you.
