Slept til 2. PEE-EM!!! What the heck?

Tuesday, Sep 9

Slept AGAIN til 2pm. I mean, I wake up at some point in the morning between like 5-9am…look at my phone for a bit, consider getting up…come to the realization that I’m still tired + I don’t really HAVE to go anywhere/do anything = go back to sleep. And I feel like if I CAN easily go back to sleep, then my body still needs the sleep.

Then I have a little breakfast (which some might call lunch…and a late lunch, at that), do my remote work…today I’m trying to complete my info sheet for my eye appointment on Thursday, but I keep getting distracted. Like I just spent about an hour putting together a small 3-day, 2-night side trip in Japan cuz I saw some guys on TikTok eating award-winning Japanese pudding. Who could resist that? So now I have a whole 3-day itinerary built around pudding, including a red maple foliage gorge, historic a-frame, thatch-roofed houses, and a Japanese garden/park.

Now I have to get back to the eye thing, which is not nearly as much fun. I haven’t left the house since Saturday. I haven’t changed out of my nightgown since Saturday.

Wednesday, Sep 10

Got up early today, 1pm, ha ha. To some good news, that one (of two) of my boxes I shipped from Korea should be here Saturday. Once those boxes arrive I can really start culling all my stuff down to fit into two suitcases.

But – I LEFT THE HOUSE. Right before dark, I got dressed (whoo) walked around the block. Hating it every step of the way, hips screaming, heart pounding, sweat a-pouring. Ugh.

Thursday, Sep 11

Got up early for my eye dr appt. THAT went sideways fast. My eye is fine…but getting this rassin-frassin oil out is complicated. Timing issues. If they go in and everything looks fine, they’ll replace the oil with air (don’task, I don’t understand how any of this works), which will dissipate in about two weeks. I can’t flyfor the two weeks, but that wouldn’t be a problem. If they go in and decide the eye still needs a little support, they’ll replace the oil with gas…which can take up to two months to dissipate…and I can’t fly with gas in my eye. So…I’d have to bus to TX in October and go 2-3 weeks late to Japan, missing most of November. Which. I don’t like that.

So, in the end, after mathing and timing out four different options, I’ve decided (for the moment) to keep my fall/winter plans – they’re already booked and paid for – Japan and Thailand – flights, airbnbs. But after Thailand, instead of going back to Japan for sakura/March-April-May I will return to the US…here to Katie’s…and do the oil removal AND the left eye cataract procedure…then I can stay til the air/gas is well gone…then go back to LA for a quick visit and return to the “far east” from Los Angeles. So I’ll be back in the US for March-April-May 2026 before I continue The World Tour June 1.

A little set-back. Added expense. Ugh. But…it’s the least disappointing/expensive of the four options I came up with.

Ahh, and it was interesting being back in an American eye clinic. Remember when we (and by “we” I mean anyone in my roughly my age range) were kids and in school we’d see “filmstrips” (remember those?) of scientists peering thru those grey microscopes…it was a very specific look. That’s how the equipment looked to me today, ha ha. The Korean equipment all looked Very Modern. Just an interesting observation.

Friday, Sep 12

A (shocker) quiet day. Got up at noon (ba ha, it’s getting a little earlier every day), helped Katie trim one of the dog’s nails (she doesn’t like having it done), did my remote work…watched her get ready to go out with a friend for two hours, changing, changing again, changing back. I’m glad those days are over. People are lucky I change out of my nightgown to go outside the house.

I booked a lesson with a new Japanese tutor. We have our first lesson Monday. MORNING. I’ll have to get myself up and dressed. I feel I can do this.

Saturday, Sep 13

I don’t think I did much. We thought about going in the pool…but I was concerned the mail truck was gonna come while we were in the back and I wouldn’t hear the knock on the door and I’d miss my Korea boxes. They require a signature. I don’t think I did that – I think the lady at the Korean post office did that. Anyway. Didn’t matter cuz they never came. Ugh.

Katie went out with a friend and I started a new kdrama. First one since I left Korea! I’m at the mercy of other people’s watching habits while I’m here.

Sunday, Sep 14

Couldn’t fall asleep last night, and when I finally did, I slept til 2:17pm. Sigh.

We took the dogs to a small, nearby park for a quick walk, showered up and went to an all-you-can-eat sushi place…and then waited so long for the check that we wore ourselves out and  bypassed our other plans and just headed straight home afterwards. Went to our separate rooms, I did my work, she scrolled…and now I’m in “my room” (which is really the dogs’ room) and she’s in bed and it’s 9:09pm and we’re both ready to crash. I mean, I’ve been up for 7 hours for crying out loud!

But right after this I’m going to bed, my alarm is set for 8 so I get up for my Japanese lesson.

Life for me in Florida is quiet and a little boring. Texas will be more active. There are more people. I won’t be allowed to sleep all day, I’ll have to get up and be social, and if I so much as open my laptop or look at my phone, it’ll be “what are you doing?” I’m just not used to this much time around people. And I’m not used to people In My Home anymore at all.

Okay. Sorry for boring posts.
