Breast Cancer Awareness Tree

Quiet day, went out to dinner with some family. Played hangman with a young cousin and had a really good steak.

Wednesday, Oct 22 & A Very Special Reunion

Reunited!

I had a very pleasant surprise when I learned that my longest-time friend (there is no unawkward way to say that) lives just about an hour from where I’ve been staying in San Antonio! We’ve been friends since we were 5-years-old, two horse-crazy kids in Newark, Delaware. My family moved away when I was nine (#sadface), but we continued visiting one another’s houses every year or so…even when she moved further away to Ohio and then Texas. But the last time we saw one another was 40 years ago at her wedding!

And now here she was, just down yonder a’ways! She came this morning and picked me up…it was so good to see her! Her mother came along for the ride, and I was equally happy to see her.

We stopped for a nice lunch on the way home, they had live music and an exhibit of mule & donkey art. Seemed fitting.

Once we got to her really lovely home I also got to see her older sister…and Mama Dog and her five seven-week-old puppies. They’re so smooshy!

Smoosh

To my surprise, she had planned an evening of Korea pictures and Q&A, with the family and a neighbor guest. Wheee!

Thursday, Oct 23

Another reunion today…turns out one of my nieces lives in Austin, which is not far from where my friend lives…

Austin…down there

so we went and got her and took her to lunch at a really cute vegetarian/vegan restaurant.

Breakfast. Cake.

I haven’t seen her in many years so it was good to see she was well and had built good community around her.

Back at my friend’s house, the evening cooled off enough that we were able to sit out on the balcony overlooking the lake and have some lovely cocktails. I have been introduced to Lemon Drop Martinis…and I am a fan.

I am happy to see them all well and that they’ve created such a nice home for themselves.

Friday, Oct 24

And then it was time to come back “home.” I’m so glad I got to spend some time with her after so long…and I’m sure we’ll see one another again!

The rest of the day was just quiet…and we watched the Dodgers playing in the World Series in the evening.

Go Dodgers.

Saturday, Oct 25

Another quiet day at home. My cousins went to the Paul McCartney concert in the evening and I went to sleep early.

Thrilling stuff.

Sunday, Oct 26

In the afternoon we went for pedicures (2 pedicures in one year, that’s a record for me!), then to dinner at the San Antonio River Walk. It was a nice evening, there were a lot of people, excellent food. I had another Lemon Drop Martini. Not as good as my friend’s. Then we did the river boat ride thing…gliding smoothly along, passing restaurants and bars, twinkle lights, people eating and laughing. A nice time.

And then we were home! I think I was in bed by 9:30.

Another week over. Guess where I go in four days! Japan! I feel like I’ve been in the US for So. Long.

But next time we meet…I’ll be back on the other side of the world!
