Back in the US: Florida Edition: May 2026
While April was mostly pleasant – not that hot and not humid at all. May was another story. Opening the door was like splashing your face with hot soup. Humidity is my least favorite weather condition. I mostly just left the house to go to doctor’s appointments. So many doctor’s appointments. Eye this and eye that. I’m so tired of it all.
The right (retina) is pretty much like it’s been since May 2025, blurry and distorted. Even after getting the oil out and the air had dissipated. I go tomorrow to get the cataract taken care of in the other eye. Hopefully at least that will go well.
We’ve been to the beach a couple times, That’s been nice.
Mostly I stay inside in the air conditioning, shopping for things I’ll need when I leave the US, napping, and reading. It’s been very nice.
In two weeks I leave for three weeks in California.
That’s really about it. Thrilling times.

A fun app I’ve been playing with – Remini. You upload a photo and it converts it into these sort of amatuerish sketches. I think they’re fun.

Katie’s birthday. She’s 16 (aka 35).

Another funny thing I’ve been doing – a lot of the clothing for sale on TikTok shop have a “Try It” feature. It’s so funny though cuz it makes you thinner, so of course the clothing looks good on you! It even styles the outfits as it sees fit. I was “trying” the brown pants. It took the initiative of putting me in a snug cropped top, ha ha. The picture on the ledt is the actual picture.

I read these in May. My three favorites were The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, The Rent Collector by Camron Wright, and The Paris Daughter by Kristen Harmel.
June should be more interesting!

Even your low-key months are well written and photographed, ha ha. I have to say that TikTok photo was pretty great, as is your own. I am tired of AI showing me my potential. My daughter suggested I ask GPT for help getting ready for my son‘s wedding. The version of me it created was unachievable. My daughter-in-law gave me a hair and makeup session so I brought the GPT suggestions. I’m sure her inside thoughts were, “I’m sorry I don’t do plastic surgery.” I had high hopes, considering what they can do with RuPaul. But I ended up looking more like Gloria Swanson.
Rverything was better in the first photo by the way.
Including your outfit for the Florida humidity. Last thing I want in sticky weather is a compression top! You’re rocking that pony, btw.

I want more wedding details! Maybe next week’s WBL post could be Pets…With a Side of Nuptials. I’d allow that. Ha ha ha.

Good luck with the ongoing eye situation! The TikTok try on photo cracked me up. Magical pants that somehow change the shape of your entire body.

And my whole style! I can pretty safely say that no one will EVER see me in a tight, stretchy, bare midriff top 🙂 There have been many variations – it’s really been quite amusing.
Eye is stupid. Will do a short post next week updating…all the people who are desperately awaiting news of my eyes :-\
You’d laugh if you saw HOW MAGNIFIED my screen is just to type this.
