Welcome! “Where Bloggers Live” started out kind of like HGTV’s “Celebrities at Home,” but…with bloggers! We all like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes, interests, and lives, so every month this wonderful  family of amazing women shares their work-spaces, homes, towns, and thoughts, with posts based on specific prompts. It’s been so interesting over the years to see the different ways each of us interpret the topics.

This month I am thinking of (longing for) my favorite season: Autumn! It’s October 6 as I write this, and I am still sweating in Vietnam…and really missing the cool snap to the air that they must be feeling in New York by now.

The good news is that I leave this weekend for Seoul, South Korea, where I will have two months of glorious fall weather and get to enjoy all my favorite fall pleasures.

Fall Foliage

Fall foliage is so rich and vibrant: the yellows of the gingko treets, the oranges of…well, orange trees, and the fiery reds of Japanese maples. The tapestry of autumn foliage colors is just…perfection.

I get BIZZY in the fall, running around to all the familiar and new spots that have The Best Foliage for photographs. Korea and Japan have been just incredible with their autumn shows of fall foliage. I’m so grateful to be able to experience it!

Cool Weather

What do I do 24/7, 7 days a week from March to November?? SWEAT!!! Oh, how I look forward to cool weather! Others are all “it’s sweatuh weathuh” in the first couple weeks of September, but I’m still sweating through the end of October. So the brief respite I get every year, of just those few months, from November to March, are much appreciated!

Dressing in Layers

And what comes with cool weather?? The opportunity to layer! I cannot layer in warm weather. I would die. But there’s nothing better on a chilly day than to put on a thin turtleneck and then a button-down, and then a lightweight cashmere or merino wool sweater! Finally I can mix a plaid with a stripe, or a floral with a dot, or…you get the idea. Hot weather dressing for me means One Layer. One Thin Layer. Yawn.

Evening Comes Early

I know many people bemoan the shortening of the days, but I can appreciate it as a time of getting home early, putting on my nightgown, and hibernating. All before 6pm. When I try to do that during longer days I just feel guilty that I’m not “out doing something.” I think we deserve a season to hibernate, to just sort of lay low and conserve our energy…spring will be back soon enough and then we’ll have to go out and do something.

Holiday Decorations

I know that over the years, more holidays throughout the year are decorated for…but none as much as the fall. From Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas (I know Christmas is in the winter not the fall, but I start seeing decorations and lights go up right after Thanksgiving), the world is just a little more sparkly and special. What’s not to like about that??

These are my five favorite things about fall. Apparently, all it takes to make me happy is some colorful leaves, a light jacket, an early sunset, and a few twinkle lights. I’m pretty easy to please this time of year (and when I’m not sweating).
