My Favorite Summer Looks
Sigh. It’s really time to start seeing what’s in the “fall/winter” tub…but first I want to take a look back at my five favorite outfits of this summer.
#5 – Starting at the bottom, is the outfit I wore on the first day of summer, the bright pink rayon embroidered top from Andree by Unit over skinny jeans. It was easy easy and I like easy.
#4 – My 4th favorite look from this past summer is the olive green Bobeau tunic with black leggings and black duster cardi. This is it’s second year and doubles as a fall outfit, so I’ve really gotten a lot of wear out of this easy outfit.
#3 – In the #3 spot is the London Times black floral wrap dress with the denim jacket. It’s a little more “dressed up” than I usually get, which made it a little special for me.
#2 – My new favorite summer jeans outfit, this Johnny Was birthday-cake-frosting-blue top over white jeans. I got it so late in the season I’ve only gotten to wear it twice, but I look forward to taking it back out next summer for a whole season of floaty blue goodness.
#1 – And, shocker (NOT), my #1 favorite outfit for the second summer in a row…the Junarose dress. It’s just too good. Easy, breezy, floaty, light. I love the colors and the print. I always feel good in it.
And what can I learn from this review? Well, 4 of the 5 looks were loose-fitting dresses/tops. Just the wrap dress was a snugger fit, and that was a rental. I know to not buy that style for dress, as while I might like the way it looks, I don’t like the way it feels and it would surely hang in my closet, untouched. It’s certainly a reminder to revisit past purchases and steer clear of the things we know our not our favorite things to wear – even if it’s a new trend or a pretty color or whatever. Usually if we look just a little harder or longer, we can find that leopard print we love so much on an item that will feel good to wear!
Did you learn anything about your wardrobe this summer?
Susan Marinelli
Good Morning, Lavender Fields dress! I’ve missed you!
What I have learned about my wardrobe this summer is that I need more shorts. Many more.
And, thanks to you, I have learned the color olive is not evil, and that I can pull it off. I am even getting ready to try camo! I’ve also learned that I love olive and black, and olive and blush. And that I need some blush sneakers.

Olive! Yes! To me it’s become like a neutral, like grey or black or navy. I just have hard time finding the right SHADE of olive…sometimes it’s more to the yellow side, a true “olive,” and sometimes, still called olive or khaki, it’s more to the blue/grey side, more like a sage – but most retailer still call it olive (or if you’re overseas, “khaki”). I prefer the sagey one but it’s harder to find in plus sizes. Not sure the reason for that, but…JOOTT 🙂
And YES olive and blush pink!
I’m also looking for a camo tee! I think I’ll like it under either a blush pink or black cardigan in the fall/winter.

Very good point – if you’re not going to wear it (for whatever reason) don’t buy another like it. I need to remember that.

Yeah, what is wrong with us that we keep doing that? I guess Love is Blind – even love of colors, patterns, fabrics, etc. That’s why I have that list of THINGS TO NOT BUY ANYMORE cuz I forget when I see something in The Perfect Shade of Whatever.

That Junarose dress is absolutely lovely on you Bettye…the colors just make you shine, and the print just floats my boat!!
I have the hardest time picking my favorites for some reason. Just call me fickle, but I have learned to stay away from black and I’m trying to embrace a monochromatic look occasionally!!
XOXO

Ha, and I had a hard time picking five! But I’m an “absolutist.” I don’t know if that’s a word, or if it even means what I want it to, but once I’ve decided on a “favorite” of anything, I have a hard time coming up with “runners up.” It’s like, well, that’s the BEST, why even acknowledge anything less than that? This is not with PEOPLE, this is more like, for example, when I’m culling down photographs for anything, like clients or for work. Once I’ve decided one pic is the BEST, I’m like why would anyone need anything else? Ha. The others might be good, but they’re INFERIOR to the BEST. Oh jeez, I sound like a…I don’t know what! Anyway,
I do love a monochromatic look. My newest love is whites. Like white with cream or off-white.

Oh I love your last photo! And I love dresses with denim jackets!

You, my dear, are the QUEEN of dresses with denim jackets!

I like your first pick too for sure! My second pick is the olive and black outfit. I know that might be too hot for some summer days but maybe for cool nights. I love seeing all these locations where you had your photo shoots. I mean that lavender field! Bring on fall!

Yeah, it’s nice when I can get to some more interesting/pretty places for shoots. The foliage will start changing in a couple weeks and then there’s all new opportunities!
