Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I hope you will have just the kind of day you like, whether with family or friends, or escaping the world a bit on your own.
I thought I’d do something a little different today in honor of the holiday, in the spirit of friendship…and share some “Thanksgivingy” questions – I’ll ask and answer – and you can answer what you like in the comments or just read other people’s. It’s just another way for us to all get to know one another a little better.
What is a favorite Thanksgiving memory? I think a favorite for me, is one year (I must have been in my 20s) when my sister, brother-in-law and I went into the city (NY) together the day after Thanksgiving and did the kind of touristy things you don’t usually do when you live in a place. It was freezing cold that day…and we rode the ferry over to Liberty Island to try to go up inside the Statue of Liberty…but we got there just as they were closing. Which I know sounds like a fail, but it was still a fun day…and one of the few memories I really have of doing something with just my sister and brother-in-law.
What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner? Mine is eating altogether at the table – that is not how my family ate growing up, we all went our separate ways with our plates, so eating together always feels special to me. And food-wise, it’s the sides – mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits, stuffing (aka all the carbs). And the leftovers. And dessert. Ha, really everything EXCEPT the turkey (except the skin, I LOVE the skin).
Do you prefer being a guest – at someone else’s house or a restaurant – or the hostess? I like both 🙂
Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving recipe? When I was young my mother always made this concoction of lime jello, walnuts, mini marshmallows and maraschino cherries as part of the Thanksgiving meal. She came from that jello/aspic generation. But I loved it. And my sister used to (not sure if it will be on the table this Thursday?) make a cranberry relish with – I think – oranges in it? And it changed my mind about cranberry things because I’d only ever had that slimy red tube slid straight out of the can.
Do you like to watch the parade? I loved them as a kid and I remember my mother watching with me, in-between basting and whatnot. But I think I really just watched for the horses. And Katie was never that interested, so I think we changed over to watching movies in the morning with our fancy Thanksgiving breakfast of crepes with fruity filling.
Do you like dogs? Ha ha. Totally irrelevant question, but I met Billy the Rotti at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and I just knew she’d enjoy a good butt scratch.
I don’t know if I’m going to wear this on Thanksgiving, but it is certainly giving me Thanksgiving vibes. This floral Ellos dress has all the autumn colors in it – burgundy, rust, gold, ochre, pink, grey, olive green. It goes with like every cardigan in my closet! And I loved this little touch of leopard in the scarf along with the floral. I can’t wait to wear this dress also with a denim jacket, I think that will be a great combo, too!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday with friends, family, the dog, yourself – whoever you want to spend the day with – and that you get a little time off from normal life to rest and refresh. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Bettye! We’ll have 37 for Thanksgiving lunch at our home. It will be crazy with 14 kiddos under the age of ten.
My favorite memory: I was ten years old, my family was driving to my grandparents farm in Indiana on the night before Thanksgiving. A drive that usually took 3 hours took 8 hours. We drove through a terrible snowstorm. To make it more eventful, we had a four month old Bassett hound puppy with us. My dad was so stressed!
Favorite Part: When sing the blessing. Makes me tear up every time.
I want to be a guest! I’ve been having Thanksgiving for 30 years, I’m tired. Lol!
Favorite recipe: I make good stuffing, no recipe I just go by taste. Drives my sister inlaw batty because she wants the recipe. Too bad, so sad. 😇 She’s not one of my favorite relatives. Ha!
I like to watch the parade, but I’m usually too busy to enjoy it. I do remember before my family got a colored tv 📺 back in the 1960’s, going to the neighbors house to watch the parade on their new colored tv.
I love dogs!

Should have done a better job proof reading. 😉

37??? Whoa!

That’s funny, we got our first color tv the day before a parade day – either Thanksgiving or New Years…and I was transfixed.

First…I LOVE that you print mixed with that scarf….look at how fabulous it looks!!
As for Thanksgiving, well you know we love the skin of the turkey too!! It’s my addiction, so we have to cook our own turkey. Otherwise people get so upset when I deskin the turkey before they eat it…ha ha!!
As for traditions and memories. We always have eaten together. And it’s one holiday I don’t think we’ve ever gone out to eat. Turkey is so easy to cook, but what I miss is my grandmother’s stuffing. I still make it occasionally, but my cousin isn’t a fan, so not very often. It has chicken livers in it and lots of parsely, so we used to call it the green dressing. Sounds so appetizing, doesn’t it?? But really, it’s yummy!!!
Enjoy your day, Bettye, and here’s to getting your dog fix. We do that all the time too!!
XOXO

So hard when someone makes something a certain way and you love it…and then they’re gone and the thing is never the same again.
More dog here in South Carolina!

I already saw this outfit on IG and think it looks amazing! What a beautiful dress and the cardigan is perfect on it. As you know I’m Dutch so we don’t celebrate thanksgiving here. But I wish you a wonderful day!

No Turkey Day?? Boo 🙁

I forget that Americans are the only ones who celebrate Thanksgiving (yes?). Do you have a comparable “day of thanks”?

Turkey skin grosses me out. I have to wear gloves just to get the turkey in the oven. It’s the consistency of it. But my dog loves turkey skin, so it all works out fine. My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is leftover turkey sandwiches, with mayo and cranberry and salt. But the meal itself is an event because you are with people you care for, and that makes it special.
Your outfit is wonderful, and it looks awesome on! And your hair is just the best! Wish mine would do that.
Have a very special holiday.
