My Favorite Fall Outfit
On September 1, other blogs were showing photos of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and young women snuggled into cozy cardigans, while I was traipsing around a summery flower garden in white jeans and a wispy birthday cake blue top. Now in December, Instagram is a sea of Christmas decorations and party dresses…and here I am in my favorite outfit of the fall under a beautiful flaming maple tree. Ha, I’m always one step behind! Or…maybe THEY’RE rushing things. People complain about the stores rushing the holidays…Halloween candy shows up in August…Christmas decorations appear at Halloween. I enjoyed this past weekend when I finally broke out my warm winter coat for the season. I’m in no rush. I feel like I had this same rant at the end of the summer!
Oh well, I enjoyed the sunshine and foliage on this morning just a few weeks back when I shot this – my favorite outfit of the season.
Chestnut Cardigan
This fall is all about brown – in all the shades, from pumpkin to chocolate. They just ooze coziness, and certainly complement the surroundings when doing an autumnal photo shoot! This rich chestnut is a little spicy yet still neutral enough to go with All the Things. I’ve worn this over white, black, grey, black and white stripes (as seen), and denim. I think it would be nice w a lighter blue and even a chartreuse green. I even saw it on the runway over mauve – I wouldn’t have thought that, but it was really lovely.
Black and white striped tee
I know. Shocking. Me liking a striped tee. But there’s something about stripes that make them just so much more than the sum of their parts! Anything you could wear with a white tee, you can wear with a black and white striped tee. And it’s just better. Anything you could wear with a black tee, you can wear with a black and white striped tee. And there’s just more interest. Yes, I’m a little passionate about stripes. Hey. We all have our things.
Blue Denim
Big surprise. I don’t think I need to explain this.
Black Trainers
I’m well aware that I over-wear these Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers but…my feet just won’t let me stop. We try other shoes, I swear…but my fragile footsies just want these. The problem with finding something really really good is that it sets the bar very high and makes it practically impossible to move forward with something else when the time comes.
Nothing Wrong with Simple
It’s a simple outfit – not flashy or fancy. I’m not wearing it to meet the Queen or anything, but…it suits my every-day real life perfectly. And that’s my main wardrobe requirement – that the items suit my real life. I can wear it to work, to dinner with friends, to a garden or museum on the weekends. It suits my body type, I don’t feel constricted or like I have to be careful. It fits the age I feel. It’s the perfect outfit for me.
Do you have a perfect outfit for you?

Ha, well, if I worked from home my nightgown would also be my perfect outfit 🙂 It must be genetic!

You haven’t had snow yet??? Heck girl, I’m in layered tights and sweater galore already!! I wouldn’t say I’m rushing it but I am always cold!!
As for stripes, they are fabulous. I wasn’t a fan until I started blogging and now I’ve drank the Kool-Aid. But they do mix well with other prints, and that’s my latest addiction!
XOXO

We had one freak snowy rush hour but it was gone quickly. It really hasn’t been THAT cold here yet for the most part.
Yeah, I now look at the solid things in my closet now and I’m like YAWN. Especially I think for the big-busted, I think some pattern to break up that big ski-slope expanse is a good thing! I’m looking at photos I took yesterday for Friday and I’m like oh goodness NO MORE SOLIDS! Of course in five years we’ll all be going “stripes look so DATED” and rebuying all the solid things. It’s just the way it is 🙂

I love your chestnut cardigan with your striped tee–it’s a great combination and the cardigan looks like a versatile piece. Chestnut is one of my favorite colors and it looks great on you!

Thanks, Sarah. I’m trying to control myself and NOT wear that sweater multiple times a week to work!

This chestnut is a really pretty shade. And look at the sun! I swear we haven’t seen the sun in a couple of weeks and we’ve been through a couple of snowstorms already. It looks so civilized there!
I think the reason you’re “behind” is because you are not trying to get people to buy for the upcoming season or holiday. On Instagram it seems that they want to give you enough time to order it and receive it for your own holiday. I never rush these seasons and holidays. I haven’t even started listening to Christmas music yet! I’m too busy lamenting the short daylight hours!
Have a super Wednesday Bettye!

Yes, live for the present! Buy for today! I mean, live for today! Ha. I think I’ll be Christmassy this weekend -tree, some decorations, etc. I think it’s time. And I have a 4-day weekend, so I HAVE some time (the most wonderful gift!). You have a good day, too!

I am crushing on the chestnut cardigan. It looks really great on you, especially with all that thick hair blowing in the wind, and the fabulous photos. Reminds me of a tampon commercial from the seventies 🙂
