Low-Key Ways to Wear Red
Red is the color of extremes. It’s the color associated with passion, fire, love, danger, anger. It’s a powerful color. What color is a power tie? Red. What color dress does the seductress wear? Red. POWERFUL.
Such a strong and vibrant color for people to work into their wardrobes, especially if they’re not looking to be the center of attention. Like me! So while I do like red, I can find it challenging to include in my wardrobe.
If you’re not looking to make a big statement, there are less attention-grabbing ways to wear red.
Wear it as a layering piece over a subdued base
Doesn’t get more laid-back than jeans and a white tee.
wear a red top
Don’t go head-to-toe red, as you would in a dress. A top is just half your body!
WEAR YOUR RED IN A PRINT
In this case, plaid. All the other colors mixed in tone down the red.
use red accessories
Shoes, or…

I love the red cardigan! You look awesome in red so you got that from your mom for sure. *now thinking of how I can wear red today!*

Wow! Well, yes, you surely inherited the “looks amazing in red!” gene!
I love the ways you present red possibilities, because even though I *sometimes* have the energy needed to “do” red, sometimes I’m just not feeling that mighty, but would like to have a bit of it.
Sometimes I wear a red pendant for a small bite of that zoom.
And what the heck?! Your mom’s purse! Omg! That is stellar too!

Yeah, red is usually best in small doses for me 🙂

Love your red sweater (I love red, my mother hated it). My favorite coat as a little girl was red. My great-aunt took me shopping with her and we came back with my red coat. I was probably 4 years old and I remember trying it on in the store and absolutely loving it. It was one of those pretty coats that flared out from the neck down, and it was definitely red. Mother was not impressed,
And, I absolutely love your mother’s red dress & jacket and of course she looks amazing in them. Dresses were so pretty back then. Nice trip down memory lane.

Oh, Mother! Glad you had that wonderful Great-Aunt who bought you your red coat!

Bettye, you look great in red. Your mother’s outfit is wonderful, her acrylic purse is perfection. I’d have some pillows made with the fabric from her outfit. ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks, Debbie. She had some wonderful handbags from the 50s…I still have a lucite one of hers with rhinestone embellishments. I’ve never actually used it, but I keep all her old rhinestone accessories in there and it’s just pretty to look at 🙂

I love that you included those photos of your mother!! Gosh how fabulous those are.
I’m a huge red lover!! Maybe because I’m in a bright color phase, and it seems to go with everything.
I have an old dress from my grandmother that even I can’t fit in. It’s like it’s for kids, but it’s not. It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. And while I’m usually good at purging, for some reason I’ve held onto this one…strange.

Nothing wrong with keeping a couple sentimental items.

Our mother was beautiful. Even though happily married, men would still try to date her. Of course she remained true our father.
Are there still dresses made of red velvet?

The Sister is here! The Sister is here! Hey everyone, this is my sister! 🙂 Our mother WAS beautiful. And of COURSE there are still dresses made of red velvet!

The pictures of your mom in that dress – *swoon*
Reading this post makes me think I don’t have enough red in my closet. I really need to fix that.

I think this cardigan is the only red I currently have…in the fall I have wine and rust but that’s not quite the same. I do have a small red and white polka dot scarf that was my mothers (I should have added scarves to my ways to wear red list!) that I could incorporate somehow. It’s small…like bandana size and I struggle with that size.

You look amazing in red Bettye! Your mothers dress is wonderful and she look fabulous.

Thanks, Tina! It’s such a shame the dress is just stored away but I haven’t found the right home for it. I think I did a photo shoot with it once, but just in a studio, not as wonderful as it could be. Maybe this year I’ll finally do something wonderful with it and then I can pass it on.
