Grateful for Gloria (Vanderbilt)
After last week’s ASOS debacle, I’m pleased this week to be wearing a new pair of Amanda jeans kindly gifted to me by Gloria Vanderbilt (not GLORIA Gloria, you know what I mean).
I’ve been wearing Gloria Vanderbilt jeans since the SEVENTIES. It was the one brand I could count on fitting my curvy figure. And later on, they were the first jeans I knew of that had STRETCH. Oh, Glorious Day. Say what you want about “stretch jeans not being REAL jeans,” when you have THIS body, you need some spandex.
And they’ve been size inclusive up to size 26 since the beginning. Back in the day, that was a big deal. And it’s still a big deal, as plus size women continue the search for well-fitting, readily available, reasonably-priced jeans. AND they take returns (ahem).
I don’t mean for this to sound like an ad. It’s not an #ad. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know I wear these jeans almost exclusively. I usually just stray if I want a skinny jean fit.
My girlfriend and I traipsed around the city one rainy day last week, playing scavenger hunt and going wherever the available parking spots took us. And while I wanted to look cute, what I really wanted was to be comfortable. A pair of comfy, stretchy jeans, an easy cotton pullover and my super marshmallowy Skechers sneakers did the trick.
Do you have a favorite brand you’ve been able to count on for years and years?

Bettye, I love these jeans. I tried them because of your recommendation. They fit me well. Woohoo! Thank you!

Yay, I’m so glad! I really love that you can select the height, that makes all the difference for me.

I remember my first Gloria jeans. I got them when a bunch of friends went together to buy them as a gift for me. They were too expensive otherwise (my mom was thrifty, remember? And sewed so many of my clothes). That was in junior high!! What memories.

I think stretchy jeans definitely count as jeans. Are people saying they’re not real? Weird. You look like you’re out and about having some fun with Mochi (love that name by the way). I gotta catch up with your vacation posts to see what mischief and lists you got up to!

Oh, I’m right there with you on the Gloria jeans. They are absolutely all I wear. I don’t do hip huggers. God gave me a waist for a reason 🙂 and they seem to be the only jeans that come anywhere near my waist. I’m so glad you gifted you with a pair – you are a great ambassador for them.
Also love your cute top. It looks comfty while looking really nice.

Yeah, I never “did” the low-pant trend. I want things at my natural waist. The underwear I’ve worn for years and wears (well, the BRAND, not the same pair, ha ha) recently changed their cut somewhat and the waist sits a little lower. Now I always feel like my ‘wares are slipping down!
Oh, what these clothing manufacturers put us through!

I love Amanda jeans too! Have worn them for years. Love your NY pics too! You really are able to capture the feel of the city with your pics and I enjoy that since I live in a much less lively place (for the most part).

I love taking pictures in the city. I love going in with no particular destination and just driving around, I think that’s when you find the most interesting things.
What would we do without our Amanda jeans?? ha ha!
Elle
Yes! I also love this brand. That is a beautiful tunic you are wearing and I also am crushing on the utility jacket.
Well done .

Thanks, Elle. The cotton peasant tunic was from Gwynnie Bee, so it was a “one and done,” and it’s already been sent back and I have a dress on its way to me that I’m HOPING fits. It might be my first “dress day” at work this spring!
