1. Things you love
  2. Things that are comfortable
  3. Things that make you feel good when you wear them

Did you think I was going to say that you must have a white tee, a simple black dress and a pair of good denim?? *I* can’t tell YOU what will make your wardrobe work! Only you can do that! No blogger, no capsule wardrobe Pinterest pin, no store knows what your wardrobe requires to work best for you.

Oh, they’re fun to read for sure. There is something so aesthetically pleasing about an all black, white and denim capsule wardrobe diagram. But everyone’s life/day/environment/job/climate/body, etc., is So Different.

We all know that “one size fits all” is NOT a real thing, and I’m not just talking about “size.” An elementary school teacher, a stay-at-home parent, an artist, a dog-walker, someone in a corporate office versus a creative one, a retired person – they all require vastly different wardrobes.

I always get a little irked when I see a post or article titled something along the lines of “This Season’s Must Haves,” or “The Dress You Need This Summer.” You’ve seen them. And they’re fun to look at…and it can be easy to get caught up in it all.

But at the end of the day, if you don’t love the items in your closet, if they’re not comfortable, or you just don’t feel good when you wear them…then that’s not a good wardrobe for you.

I do have a slight “capsule mentality” in that I prefer a smaller, compact wardrobe with most items easily mix-and-matchable. I have HAD tons of clothes in the past, closets and closets (and tubs and garbage bags-ful) and it wasn’t better or easier. I have to come to prefer the feel of fewer, of less (I know, I know, BOX MOUNTAIN, ha ha). That feels best now to ME. Someday the pendulum may swing back, who knows. And that’s okay, too.

Just as it’s okay for us to all have the items WE want. Not what someone else has prescribed for us.

Today’s outfit comprises all three “must-haves.” I love loose-fitting, swingy dresses…and I love linen in summer, even in its most crumpled, wrinkly state. I’m most comfortable in loose clothing and sneakers. And I feel good in all three of these pieces.

I was even a little daring (#tongueincheek) and tied the blouse up at my waist. OOh!

What three things must you have in your wardrobe??

PS – you are witnessing here the return of Sweaty Bettye now that heat and humidity has actually arrived. Things are gonna get ugly.
